Heh, heh. Was playing through COD4 and I came up with this little number. Won't make a lot of sense, I know. Might explain why my 'other self' was stuck on overwatch duty:
*two mercenaries are on one of the roofs of Illium, staring down at the trading floor through binoculars.*
1: LT, the meeting is underway. Unknown frigate has just entered the port.
(2 brings up a high-res camera)
1: Crowd's getting a bit busy tonight. See if you can find her.
(2 sweeps sights around until they rest on one of the office windows nearby)
2: Target aquired. I have a positive ID on Liara T'soni.
(Office door opens, revealing Shepard and two other individuals)
1: Confirmed ID on Commander Shepard. Going into overwatch.
(A low-flying 'car' hovers some distance away and blocks their view)
1: ARGH! Where did he come from?
PS: I guess I am the 'fiend of randomness' now

I think there is a lot of speculation behind that. Personally, I think its either controled by the asari or its only possible after they hit the "Matron" stage of their life.

I think that the asari control and make a conscious decision to conceive a child when they meld with their partner for the purposes of reproduction. I think that there are two different kinds of meld: the platonic, information transfer meld that occurs between Shepard and Shiala, and with Liara in the debriefing room on the Normandy. Then there is the true asari union, the meld used for the purposes of sexual pleasure and reproduction during which an asari can conceive her daughter.
For us Liara lovers, Shepard entered both kinds of meld with Liara in ME1. I don't think Liara made the conscious decision to secretly conceive Shepard's child in that time and keep it a secret, for reasons we've discussed. I want the birth of Shepard and Liara's daughter to be really special, and sweet, after they've both made the decision to start a family together.

Okay that's what I thought at first, it's just that the 100% rate makes more biological sense because of the way it's explained. But then again I'm no master of Asari biology.Sunnie22 wrote...

Yep, I'd only want Shepard and Liara to have a possible bondmate ceremony, and to start a family after the Reapers have been defeated at the end of ME3. I'd love it if one of the best possible Liara romance epilogues featured Liara giving birth to her's and Shepard's little asari daughter, that'd be so sweet!
