Yeah, I get the sense that the Liara in ME2 is trying to be stronger than she really is (deep down) for her own, and Shepard's, sake. They are still crazy over eachother but neither one is sure what the other is feeling and they are not meeting in the middle at the same time, especially with all of the distractions going on for the both of them (and behind the scene issues we can only speculate about).

There's so much going on behind the scenes that we don't know about yet. It's wrong to say it's unsalvageable.

Oh I definitely think it is salvagable.  The overall direction they took, while it isn't what I would have done, isn't a bad one.  We just need to SEE it, like Drivein said, not just be told about it.

Shepard also needs to not act like he is not deaf, dumb, and blind through the whole thing.

If they do intend to bring out a Liara expansion and they do all the things we are talking about I think things will be fine moving forward.  If they just bring out a mission pack where Liara sends you out to shoot stuff and there is only minimal dialogue between them it'll be a waste.

They can still save what they did in ME2 they just need to not hold back on anything at this point.

Bolded for emphasis. The reactions we were able to pick for Shepard were just lame.

You have problems? I just watched 2012...I could have been playing a game. I thought I'd give ME1 a break, but I just sat through the worst movie I've seen in forever.....

It looked like they stole a scene from mass effect1 whne the intercom interrupted a kiss the first kiss...pretty damn close.

That movie hurt my head. Seriously.

Boyfriend decided to drag me to see it, and one of my friends who teaches astronomy and astrophysics to college students was there next to me in the theater. He could do nothing but giggle insanely at the "science" of some of what they were proposing.

I'm glad I didn't go see it in that case. I'm an IT professional at the hospital I work at. I get to laugh at all the computer hacking scenes in movies because the stuff they type on the screen wouldn't do anything whatsoever. Back on topic, yeah there's plenty of worse writing out there than what happened in some parts of ME2.

Well, to be somewhat fair, any story that is based on the predictions of an ancient people that thought you had to sacrifice humans to make the sun rise is bound to be fail. :P

Definitely.
It is unfortunate that all BioWare needed to do was have Shepard emotionally react and we would have been content until the expansion.
They may have made it a lot harder on themselves to find a way to explain the complete lack of caring on Shepard's part in the expansion without changing the reunion.
I am assuming that they will just add dialogue lines and more movements to the reunion that were supposed to be there as to have it make sense in the expansion, I couldn't see why not.
I would assume that BioWare may possibly change the picture scene to an emotion call from Liara before going on the suicide mission and of course the first reunion (there would have to be a second reunion after the suicide mission for the expansion to make sense) in the expansion as well.

Agreed, I would love to see them go back and redo/add to the reunion and maybe a few more reunion options (2 or 3 short ones at most) if they are LI's prior to the suicide mission.  That would at least give me reason to play through the game, and probably make it a much happier experience for me overall.  Then have the bulk of the expansion be post suicide mission so they can really get down to business.

One good thing to remember is that almost every scientific prediction of the future results in complete and utter destruction of everything, lol.
I think people of science need to start looking for theories that don't result in everyone dying...
I am going into the medical field (neurological engineering) so maybe that is why I am not a fatalist, lol.
Well, I am going to get back to the Lovely Liara .

I know we shouldn't be rehashing stuff over and over again, for sure.  Problem is, I discovered this thread when it was already eighty pages or so, IIRC, so I'm not sure what's already been said...

I'm a bit glad, in a way, that I looked in the forums before I started playing though.  Because I was set up for a worse downside to the Liara meeting than actually happened.  I mean, doing my best to stay objective here for once -- don't worry, though, I'll be going on about 'my favorite blueberry love muffin' in later posts ^_^ -- why does everyone love this woman so much?  For that matter, why do I?

Actually, I know that one right off the bat:

Alyna Shepard:  "Sounds like you want to dissect me in a lab somewhere."

Liara:  "What?  No!  I did not mean to insinuate ... I never meant to offend you, Shepard.  I only meant that you would be an interesting specimen for an in-depth study... no, that's even worse!"

 I totally melted.  Yes, I fell for geeky Liara, and really hard.  (Even at the end, where I got a ... somewhat better look at her... though I modified her from 'cute geeky girl' to 'cute sexy geeky girl' in my mind.)

They gotta change the greeting. I was like "uhhhh wtf???" when he's like "oh its nice to see you:?" to Liara, but when you get Garrus, he's like "GARRUS!!!:o:wub:". Shepard obviously doesn't have his relationships prioritized at all.

If the player fail's to reveal Nyxeris as the shadow broker's observer before importing to ME3, will she make a greasy smear out of Liara?

I think Liara would have taken her out regardless, but now has you to thank for helping her realize it early on!

Kiara may not have seen Nyceris coming, but her barriers needed practice regardless if Shep reveals it or not. I'm sure if Shep didn't help reveal Nyxeris, she wouldn't hve succeeded in killing Liara.

I'm so excited for the DLC to come, since there's strong evidence that it will feature Liara in a hunt for the Shadow Broker-type quest. Who knows what this will do for the romance?!

And in response to an earlier post, that's the reason we all fell for her. She's just so awkward, geeky, and cute, but she can be tough when she wants to, and she's no pushover. But I like to think she just melts whenever she thinks about Shepard. Top 3 Liara moments from ME1:

1) When you tell the krogan mercenary upon rescuing her that he can't have her. She gives you this amazing look, like, "Wow, he's brave... And cute..."

2) When Shepard says, "That sounds amazing. Are you saying..." And she responds, "Oh! Oh no! I was merely trying to tell you why I have been so... reserved! We do not enter into a union lightly, that is why I have never... I mean, why we are so careful about who we choose."

3) And a tie between "That was incredible Shepard," and that look of despair on her face when she thinks you're dead after killing Sovereign. Good lord, that asari has a direct line to my heart. Anyone else?

Even "It's nice to see y ou' could work.  If it's delivered right, that is.  Flat "It's nice to see you" on the other hand...

Though that movement we've thought was whispering?  (And who knows, it could have been intended to be so.)  That gives them an EXCELLENT spot to patch in a response -- they don't even really need Ali, Jen or Mark tell you the truth, if it's a very light whisper.  (OR they can go cheap and just text it as "Barely Audibly Whispering".  Problem solved? )

I definitely enjoy talking with her in ME1 a lot.  She just has this mix of maturity and sweetness, awkwardness and assertiveness that is pretty enthralling.  She feels a connection to you and takes the chance to see if that is reciprocated.  I know in the romance scene with Femshep where Liara brings in you for the kiss there is nothing hesitant or girlishly awkward about that at all.  She wants you and being pulled in for that kiss by her makes you feel as if you were the one being romancedPosted Image

Shep: Ready for round two?

lol, but yeah I hear ya. Liara's got a line to my heart. I think deep down, it's not the character herself, but the idea of her that is so appealing to everyone. I mean a cute, geeky, awkward girl that can go into your mind and see everything you are, everything you think...that sounds perfect!

So true about feeling like Shep was the one being romanced there. When Liara all of a sudden grabbed my femshep I was like .... Liara may be shy and awkward at first but when she sets her mind on something she wants she certainly doesn't hold back. And my femshep certainly isn't going to argue with her about it.

Dang, 111 pages!! Go Liara!

Anyway, just thought I would throw in my two cents and say if they decide to make Liara romanceable to players who didn't romance her in ME1 then the loyal players definitely deserve more. I sincerly hope the loyal Shepards who didn't cheat get a serious reward. I miss my fave Asari. :( I'm not holding my breath on Liara DLC to be coming any time soon but that's just my opinion. I don't wanna get my hopes up.
