It's not only a question of creating sequels, unfortunately. The approach and attitude have (been) changed at BioWare, and it's unlikely they will change back in the foreseeable future.
Yeah they seem to have developed some sort of fetish for this whole "dark and edgy" thing and everything seems to get dragged down with that, old plot points get thrown out of the window, characters get changed to fit their new vision basicly everything except Tali, its not that I hate her but it really sticks out that they didnt make her "dark and edgy" too
And what little there is out about ME3 gives not much hope that they will change for the final sequel

They're desperate for more Liara too! They should post here, they'd feel right at home.

which means...no Liara joining Shepard on the Normandy until ME3 (maybe). So, does this mean that, if there is actual Liara DLC/expansion pack, she'll give you the 'Sorry, I can't come with you, Shepard' line again after completing the mission? That's bull.

Maybe she'll join the Normandy again, but won't be selectable as a squad member? I don't know, I'm just trying to think of something here.
Perhaps after you complete Liara's mission, she won't return to her office on Illium, but go off elsewhere and she explains that she's tying up a few loose ends, but that she'll promise that she'll be back soon to go with Shepard on the Normandy again? If Liara makes that promise in a heartfelt manner, then I think that would be alright.

However I doubt BioWare would go through this much effort, so we'll just get some crappy excuse after we finish her mission(s).

What would she give Liara? Probably a copy of her favorite human novel, then go out for dinner and dancing.

Well they have the cute unused "I have to read" line in the old soundfiles would be a waste otherwise,I guess having to manage the SBs empire would factor into this too and she also has to pick a new desk for ME3:wizard:
But seriously the only chance we would get to see Liara on the Normandy in ME2 would be an expansion that takes place after the final mission otherwise it wouldnt work at all, though I doubt it would happen even then
Also I'm still somewhat relieved that the latest DLC didnt turn out to be Liara content, plus it being another Cerberus experiment gone wrong really enforces the feeling that blowing up the base was the right way to go

About Bday gifts, my Shepard has never received one in her life, so Liara could give her a ball of yarn and she'd be happy.

J....you break my heart, a ball of yarn, I have a present for your Shepard!

You probably won't even get the chance to ask her to join you! Or, if you do, she'll give you the 'It will take years to sift through the SB's data and I have to do it!' garbage line.
This is what I expect out of DLC, at least...a 'worst case scenario'.

After Liara's DLC, they could do something similar. Liara has to go off and tie up some loose ends to ensure that trouble doesn't follow her and threaten Shepard or the mission, but she'll promise to rejoin Shepard as soon as she can.

Oh, I took 'no more ME2 squad mates' to mean no new ones until ME3, including expansion. I guess expansions can be considered separate from the main campaign, unlike DLC.

She was an orphan with no family an had no friends in the Alliance...no presents
I wonder what present you would give my poor Shepard?

That's all I want from BioWare, just a hint that we're not wasting our time waiting for something that may never happen.
If you are waiting for it, you are probably wasting your time indeed. But even though they don't care about Liara or us anymore, doesn't mean we can't discuss her.

Can be seen both ways I guess,as I said I could imagine Liara and Ash/Kaidan rejoining you in an expansion that sets up the story for ME3,but its somewhat unlikely, since we already have more then enough squadmates, though some might be dead depending on how you do the final mission

Doesn't exclude Liara becoming a temporary squadmate either.
Liara DLC and Liara being a part of the expansion isn't necessarily mutually exclusive. She could be a temporary squadmate in her DLC, and then rejoin the Normandy on a permanent basis in the expansion, so that it's nicely set up and poised for ME3.

The next DLC will be "Waiting for Liara" in which Shepard and companions rediscover Therum and the "newly" unearthed Prothean ruin. At great expense, the Alliance and Cerberus both team up to "rediscover" the ancient Prothean ruin where Commander Shepard first met Liara T'Soni. To their astonishment they find another Prothean beacon. Both Shepard and Dr. T'Soni are called in for this monumental discovery. But then Shepard arrives, Liara has yet to arrive. This 4 hour dlc pack has Shep and companions wile away the hours as they delve into each other's psyche through conversation, laughter, tears and perhaps even romance. If Mordin is in your squad he will sing to pass the time away. Will Liara show? Discover "Waiting for Liara" for just 1200 BW points and find out!
Actually that sounds like fun to some degree compared to the usual shooting stuff maybe they could add a Skyllian Five minigame too:P
