[Goodwood]

Goodwood thinks it has to do with the basic human desire to be with like-minded individuals. It provides some small measure of peace for folks to be able to congregate with folks who share a certain point of view. Goodwood contends that this is not necessarily a phenomenon of exclusivity; for example, this thread is visited by plenty of folks who primarily support other characters (such as Ashley and Tali, to name a couple of examples), and those exchanges tend, for the most part, to be perfectly amicable.

I've never very much liked the whole support thread thing to be honest... I mean sure it's great to have threads for characters you like but I feel as if it is dividing the community. It's like each support thread is it's own seperate clan. The members of the Tali clan (Tali-ban) keep peace with the Miranda clan (Miridians) but neither one dares to roam into the others thread lest all hell break loose. The Ash clan and Kaidan (Kaidanites) clan have long held a pact, but there is still a subtle rivalry among them. Then there is the Liara, Garrus, Samara, Thane and Jack clan... and perhaps even hints of the start of a Shiala clan. The last thing either wants is war.

I dislike that I basically have to "belong" to one of these clans or else I really have no sway on the forums... I have to belong somewhere or else people will not be interested in an in-depth discussion. Is it not possible for a person to like all or none of the squadmembers? It is dividing way the forum way too much IMO and is taking up the campaign quests and storylines forum which I would have thought would be reserved for actual questions about the story...

/shrug Blame BW not the players.  If BW had treated all the LI's equally there would be much less division and and animosity on the forum, but they wanted to "spotlight" their new characters and left a trail of devastation in their wake for ME1 LI fans.

Well we can't possibly talk about the characters in the General Discussion section because spoilers are not allowed. I suppose technically we should have these threads in the "Mass Effect 2 Characters, classes and Builds" section, but these huge threads were created before that section existed as I recall, so now it's sort of second nature to use this section here instead of that one.



I don't have anything against most of the other characters, but I do admit that I rarely venture into those threads.

I dont see the big deal if each has their own thread. I mean who cares?

Goodwood agrees. He has spent plenty of time on other online communities, and knows that this sort of "clique" behaviour is actually quite common. To not expect such unofficial groups to pop up is to be a bit naive...and that's on forums where the ability to actually form these groups is not enabled. These forums heavily promote such a clan structure anyway, with the ability to create and join various usergroups which have their own separate discussion forums. After all, it's a great way to keep the main forums clear of the more esoteric topics and chat threads.

Yeah, that's why I choose to work freelance, and don't stay in one place. I check all the threads, and state my opinion or ideas, or whatever when the time comes. That way, I get to talk with everyone on every thread, as long as I'm not bashing their character (which I have no right to in their thread of course). Every thread has great people on them (Goodwood, Sunnie22, LesEnfantsTerribles just to name a few) so I'm glad to work that way.
