What does this mean? It means that while Liara hasn't had advanced biotic training, she's had a lot of experience USING biotics. I wouldn't be surprised if she's also an amp nut, the way some people are gun nuts.

Thanks for the explosive welcome!
I cannot wait to see Liara's biotics in action again. I hope we get a cool cutscene like in the final mission when Jack sends a violent biotic push towards all those collectors. Liara was the most powerful biotic squadmember in ME1. Insanity was a piece o' cake with her on my squad.

May have been one reason they saw the need to "amp up" Liaras character,at times I really get the feeling that was one of the reason for the assasination of her character in ME2,they just listened to the wrong people
As for Biotics,I'm kind of on the fence when it comes to Liaras power,as asari she is more talented then a human thats for sure, but at times she strikes me as presented too strong esspecially in the comic,it just doesnt fit her "just barely escaped with my own life" line and then you see her plowing through the SBs base without a scratch
Also we know that biotics seem to grow stronger with age and matriarchs are considered the most powerful biotics in the galaxy so it bears the question how strong is Liara compared to them
And on a sidenote do we really know if biotic power can be inherited through genes I never had that impression, but then again most biotic knowledge we have is that about humans

It's also clear that she's recieved at least some training because although all asari are natural biotics, the Codex says not all of them can actually use their abilities in any substantial way, because they're untrained.
My guess is that Liara has at least some biotic training, perhaps as a form of self-defense. On top of that, as others have said, she may have come upon a situation from time to time when she was forced to defend herself. Considering Benezia's personality it is also not out of the question that Liara was given some small amount of advanced training by her mother before they sort of went their separate ways.
Just a guess though.
Incidentally, I'm gathering support for those who want to see the entire ME1/ME2 team in ME3. While I know not everyone in this thread feels strongly about supporting the characters that overshadowed the cute genius in ME2, I'm eager to gather support where I can. On that note, please consider joining our group.

You can find anything on google if you take the time, I think I searched "funny mass effect pictures" and this was on page 12 or so. I had to crop and scale it before making it my avatar though:PLizardviking wrote...

Regarding Liara training and honing her biotic capabilities, that is very much true. I've just listened to the elevator conversation between Liara and Garrus, in which Garrus mistakenly assumes that all asari are naturally very capable and adept (haaa haaa!) with their biotic abilities, to which Liara corrects him and says that she has spent a long time training and honing her biotics. This would have been a necessity for Liara too, as she says herself that she often runs afoul of pirates, slavers, mercenaries and hostile local lifeforms whilst on one of her long expeditions. She needs to be powerful for self-defence.

As far as biotic abilities are concerned, Liara's got to be at least pretty adept because she can hold her own as well as any of the other party members. So she's definitely not a rookiee when it comes to fighting. Of course, when you first find her she doesn't strike one as particularly combat capable and her personality doesn't seem (in ME1) bloodthirsty enough for someone who's killed before.
It's also clear that she's recieved at least some training because although all asari are natural biotics, the Codex says not all of them can actually use their abilities in any substantial way, because they're untrained.

I remember we had a debate in this topic a few weeks back, we discussed how strong Liara was as a biotic compared to the other plotwise.
I think my conclusion was something akin to this.
Morinth>Liara>Samara>Jack>adept shep>vanguard/sentinel shep>wrex>Kaiden/Miri/Thane>Jacob.
There were a few who disagreed with my list, but no matter what we all thought that Liara is pretty high on the list!

I disagree with that.Lizardviking wrote...

Jack>Samara>Morinth>Wrex (he's had 1400 years to perfect his biotics)>Liara>rest.
*I didn't put Shep up there because I like to think Shepard's biotic power is up to the player's imagination, some like to role-play that their Shepard is the best in the galaxy (I find that to be a little childish) others prefer to have their Shepard to simply be a above average biotic.

Thanks Marcin & Les
And talking about Liara not being able to look after herself , well i don't believe that for a second , she is a worthy squadmate in me1 and very powerful when using her biotics.
She has stated a few times in me1 about protecting herself while at dig sites

My list goes after those with the greatest biotic potential, not their current biotic strenght. If i did that then my list would look bit more like yours (with a few changes).
