Coming up to Ilium on my current play through...I dread it every time, but I need that insanity achievement (months behind I know)...
Agreed Illium makes me not even want to play anymore, too sad.
If you don't mind me asking what class are you for insanity?
Infiltrator. I've played through on adept and vanguard on normal, figured I'd try an insanity play through with something different.
Insanity is actually really fun once you get the hang of everything. Once you start, you can't go back (beat it 4 times. 2 Vanguard, 1 Soldier, and 1 infiltrator). The trick is to uses your team correctly, aka bring the right tools for the right job. Just figure out who you're up against, then pick the members that can take their defenses down.
The second tip is to know how to properly use your class ability. Just max it out, and practice.
I also suggest you get Thane, so you'll get an awesome sniper-rifle, which will do till you get the Widow. And last, if things are still too hard, change your bonus ability to Geth Shields, or Fortification. That way, you'll be able to take more hits.
Beyond that, watch some insanity runs on Youtube to get some more tips on cool ways to use your class and abilities.

I did read the article you linked. It's interesting but no surprise to see that the crap that we have endured is pretty wide spread. It is cheaper to reuse assets or modify assets to be variants than it is to create all new art and story. It should also be no surprise that the market is saturated with cookie cutter games in just about any genre that you can name. Unfortunately, this is also a byproduct of skyrocketing production costs and the need to make a profit. Ultimately, something in the product will always suffer because of that. We can spend all night listing out all the shortcuts that were taken in ME2 for it to be closer to another cookie cutter shooter, but that would just be regurgitating everything everyone has discussed already, 100 times over.Nozybidaj wrote...

INSANITY!!!!! Insanity is like...I don't know, I was up for killing myself at some points (End of Horizon took me about an hour just for the praetorian) But jah, it let's people know you're a hardcore ME ****
The praetorian was cake in my opinion. It was the fight leading up to that, with the dual Scions and dozens of husks. That was the only fight in the game that I can say was truly difficult. I have yet to figure out precisely what it is that determines whether an object blocks the scion shockwave. Very little in that part of the map seems to. Your instinct is to find the geometry that does so and hunker down, but the neverending stream of husks makes that an impossibility. Ultimately the way I did it on insanity as a soldier, was to kite the husks. You might be familiar with kiting if you ever played Everquest. All it is is running away from one or more monsters who have simple AI and no ranged weapons. So the strategy was to basically drag this mass of husks around the outer perimeter of the room, keeping them out of range and moving just barely fast enough to usually evade the scion shockwaves. Assuming the scions don't get into the wrong rythm, you have a very short window after they do their attacks to take a shot at them. It's a long, tedious process but it's the best I could come up with for that fight. It gets a lot easier once you take out one of the scions.
Fighting the praetorian is quite simple. You find cover and stay behind it whenever it shoots. When it's not shooting you are doing one of two things: either shooting it or running away from it. You cannot let it overrun your position. If it does so, it will kill you. You don't want to ever risk that happening, so any time you even think it might be close enough to do so you take the opportunity to run to the farthest cover you can reach before it starts shooting again. Repeat this process over and over until it dies. Again, always prioritize finding suitable cover over doing damage to it.

Just saying there could be some subtle improvements.
Increased bust size would be a start.
