I would still like to know WHAT VALID REASONS ?
Including romances in the first game of a trilogy that carries over your decisions causes major complications (more than just Paragon/Renegade dialogue choices), especially if you want to introduce new characters in each game.
It would have been very easy to recruit them in Mass Effect 2 otherwise.
You have to admit, although the writers are great at developing a character, they don't know how to handle the romance section.
(And yes, if you would like me to provide reasoning or evidence for any of those three statements, I will, but it will result in huge blocks of text - I warned you!)

Sorry to burst your bubble but ME games are
NOT TRILOGY!After ME 2 introduction those games become no more no less but STAND ALONES connected ONLY by name Mass Effect in title.
And what developing of characters you saw in ME2?
Unless you romanced one of them dialog wheel ends after two or three talks (Character introduction, L-mission descryption, post l-mission "briefing")...
Try to talk whit Garrus - Sorry busy calibrating!.
Tali - Sorry Shepard but i need to clean sterile clean engine... and further idiocy.
Playing ME 2 my char was ALONE on ship full of people and that's rather bad sign for game aspired to role of the RPG game, when in ME 1 i spend lot of time running between decks and talking whit all characters learning thier history without necessity of romancing them.
You are right about one thing.
Whoever is responsabile for romance part of the ME 2 should be FIRED and on his/her place should come someone who known true definition of romance plot.
