I know, I know, a part of it was played when Shepard died, but contextually, I think it could also suit a moment when Liara tearfully embraces Shepard after they run into each other again.
Look it up and decide for yourselves...

I know exactly the song you're talking about CM. I think it would be a very fitting and emotionaly engaging song for a Liara reunion.

The in-game codex refers to asari as "An all-female race", and the Codex that comes with the Collector's Edition of ME1 says "While asari have only one gender, they are not asexual like single-celled life. All are sexually female."
That's good enough for me. Liara's a girl.
Casey's stupid comments were a ploy to ward off the same-sex question, nothing more. I was watching the talk live - someone asked him if there would be same-sex romance in ME2 like in ME1, and he replied by saying it would be the same as ME1 - in which there weren't any because Liara is asexual, completely contradicting both games' Codexes. The confusion is simply a result of his attempting to soften the blow that there wouldn't be any same-sex romances in ME2, and in doing so he carelessly caused massive confusion over one of the ME1 characters - which at the time - didn't matter at all to the marketing machine.
Also - during the game Liara mentions a few times that she is not technically a woman. This always struck me as an attempt to remind the humans around her that she is not a woman in the sense they understand - she isn't the "female of the species". In fact, both times she says this are when her relationship with a female Shepard is mentioned - again, it seemed to me to be a reminder from her that from her perspective, there was nothing odd about same-sex unions because to her, gender doesn't matter as asari only have the one, and haven't formed gender-roles and common sexualities.

Personally I think femShep is the more natural pairing for Liara. They are an all female race, when they first encounted other intelligent life as a race the concept of a male member of the species would be a completely foreign idea. While time amongst them surely changed their views, I still think that females, particuarly human females since they share so many physical features would feel a lot more natural to most asari.
I've seen this concept mentioned a fair few times. Some argue that MaleShep is more "exotic" to them.
In my mind FemShep having hair is plenty exotic enough

Liara is still all female, though. It's just that she has no concept of that, and it has no meaning to her.

Yep, Liara telling FemShep that she is not technically a woman is just reiterating that the concept of gender and sex differences is completely foreign to the asari. To the asari and to Liara, male and female have no real mening to them, as she says in-game. When FemShep or Kaidan state that Liara is a woman, she distances herself from the label because it has no meaning to her, and is not something she really ascribes to.

Yeah.
I think the best way to describe it would be Liara is female, but not a woman - in that she has no pre-detirmined gender-role set by society.
One asari could behave like a different species' female, and another asari could behave like that species' male - both these asari would be female.
As a sidenote - it's my dubious honour to inform you all that right now, I'm drawing Liara's naked chest

I use a tablet to do the sketchy line-art (like this pic) and then I actually use my laptop' mousepad to do almost the entire drawing, including shading. And then the tablet comes back out for things like hair that need to have defined but flowing shading.

As a sidenote - Liara's necklace will be very important in a fic I'm planning...
Interesting, looking forward to that. Possibly a gift to Liara from Shepard?

On another note, I've just beaten ME1 again. Isn't it sad how Liara looks absolutely crushed when Anderson tries to console her, and asks where Shepard is? She looks distraught.
That huge, beaming smile when Shepard runs out from the debris makes it all worthwhile, though!

I like Liara's pendant. Does it have any special significance or is it just there for being cool?

Actual, the eventual reveal of Liara having a locket like that could be pretty emotional during the epic romance reconciliation. Just like Liara walking into Shepard's cabin, and seeing her picture on the desk.

Might want to re-check anatomical reference for Freya's neck/head positioning. That kinda looks like her trachea might be squeezed a bit much. Head seems just a tad too small. Also Liara's neck seems slightly on the long side.
