Im confident they will all be there! A lot of clues point to this. ME3 will have most of them back if not all who survived the two games. I loved ME1 over ME2 but I look at it from a trilogy viewpoint. 1 is always big, 2 is slow and links the first and last, 3 is big and brings all guns to point.

old squadmates: I have not the faintest idea...
They'll have to write romance content for 8-9 characters.

They could go the easy way out and just cameo all the LIs.  :wizard:

Yes nad let's make new LI that no one will even do nor care about. <_<

Plus, Legion's death could easily be handwaved away. It's personality could just be downloaded into another mobile platform, and they could switch out the character model for one that doesn't have the wound and N7 armour.

yeah i think this is true and that the geth have a huge role in the next game.

Honestly, I really can't see any way for Bioware to introduce a bunch of new characters in an acceptable way for ME3. I can see maybe adding one or two new characters, but a new squad would be beyond silly. You spent the last game recruiting the very best specialists in the galaxy. Those individuals combined with Liara+Virmire survivor should really be enough.

Those who made it out of the suicide mission with only two other characters (which, I have to think, would be an extreme minority since it's actually more difficult to do this than get everyone out alive) would just have to deal with having less (or go back and replay the suicide mission).

Bioware already send many warning signals (aka stand alone style of creation) that could be rather high possibility that almost all ME 2 introduced characters (perhaps whit exceptions of Lis ) can be toss aside like they do whit ME 1 chars to made place for third squad introduction.

From ME 1 Lia and Virmire survivor will comeback, however there is still question in what level if interaction, as full squad member or Zaeed/Kasumi style bots.
From ME 2 Miranda could return as full squad member to resolve once for all Shepard vs Cerberus issues OR this could be resolved in another side mission after wich roads of Shep and Miranda will part (IF you don't romanced her of course or after final showdown ME 1 Li vs ME 2 Li:O IF you chose to return to ME1 Li.)

Other ME 2 chars (in my games they all lives) so far don't have stone writen guarantee to be active part of another game... and all this in name of so praised by rEApers "making ME 3 accessable for newcomers" style...

Do you really think there'll be no new characters/romances in ME3 (not the whole squad of course)

- everyone needs a working squad (Ecaels "Morinth/Kasumi" Shepard as well)
- some new ME2 squadmates have  large fanbases (Miranda, Mordin), why should it be any different for ME3 characters?

This is a concern.  Right now, this forum is filled with a few hardcore ME fans that are loyal to the old characters.  When ME3 is announced, there will be an influx of the more 'casual' ME gamers that aren't as attached to the characters as we are.  If there are new ME3 characters, these folks will care more for these 'shiny new' characters and their praises for them on the forums will drown out those that still want the old characters.  This happened with ME2.

ME2 is the middle, it's logical. We have 16 characters already, there is no need for anymore. The more characters you make, the more the other characters will suffer pissing people off.

Yeah, put it simply, BioWare will do whatever the hell they feel like with regards to reurning squadmates or love interests or whatever. If they see fit to just have Liara and the surviving Alliance soldier return as squadmates, they'll do that. They won't care about justifying it for a niche, hardcore section of a character's fanbase. If Liara and either Ashley or Kaidan are the only returning squaddies in ME3, I find it hard to believe BW will care much about any kind of outcry.

yeah which pretty much sucked.. I dont like what they did but if they follow the whole trilogy thing it will be no worries and the ME1 plus ME2 ppls will be in ME3 with only 1 or 2 new characters if any at all... at least i hope...

On a more positive note, I think the ME wiki has accepted the fact that the picture of Liara I uploaded for the ME2 section of her page is far, far better than the one they originally had, and have decided to keep it. Yay! :wizard:

I see the point and I agree with it. Ive said myself this new squad seems far too "mercenary" to be in it for the long haul. They all seem more like Wrex than they do Ash/Kai or Liara. Its one of the reasons I support them getting cameod in ME3. Its just, even with that reasoning, they devs talked about the game being "focused" on the squad, and maybe I missed the point. Maybe they did mean "focused on each individual squadmember and their loyalty mission", rather than "focused on the personal relationship between Shepard and each crewmember as they head off to a suicide mission".

I think it's still about "Shepard and each crewmember as they head off to a suicide mission", because, when I got Thane killed on my first run, I turned off my 360, and redid the mission. And I don't even care about him. But I cared enough that I didn't want him to die. Same with Maranda. I hated her the most out of the whole squad, and I never use her on missions, yet I'd never want to see her die.

The story is a simple story. Bad guys come and kill you, and you're given a second chance to take them down, or die again. So you then gather the best of the best, make them loyal, and go kick ass. Again, a simple plot.

But during all that, you're forced to get to know them, and bond with them. You get to learn what enemies they're good against, and learn about them as characters. You get to choose whether they murder, or see their sister. And after all that, they tell you that it's no longer just business. They're there for you till death.

And if you choose not to help them, they die, or stay untalked to for the rest of the game. Either way, it's all about them, and whether they live or die.

Basically a avatar version of my Mass Effect 3 poster.

More coming soon!

And just FYI, I'll may be taking a leave of absence from this thread in the near future.

Thanks, I think I'm gonna use evil Liara, I like that picture.  And I hope you figure out how to do custom avs soon.
Remember to make the avatar picture file Read-Only before you make your character.

There's also this version, which I like better.

And thanks for the tip!

Yeah, and Liara's fan base has dwindled in size from ME1 to ME2, due to her 'glorious' ME2 cameo :police:

Former hardcore Liaramancers are now Talimancers.

IF Bioware give a dim care about his fanbase...

I will repeat this once more, Bioware already stated that they are no onger bonded to clasic rules of the trilogy but they go in "each games are stand alones connected only by name of the series".

Heck fact that they made main character of the game killable in C-Base proven how far they broke trilogy rule.
I agree that kills Shepard in that base required actually lot of work or absolute lazies from player part but key is YOU CAN KILL SHEPARD in that base... it's like killing Frodo in Two Towers or Luke in TESB... or even John Connor in T 2 <_<.

That's why i would start to advice to be prepared for another slap in face when ME 3 will be introduces... however i really, really hope that for one time i will be wrong in that matter...

You guys do realise that Liara still maintains a pretty massive fanbase, both on and off this website, right?

I'm doubtful that most of the ME2 team will return, especially the LIs. This doesn't particularly bother me. I think anyone who isn't expecting at least 2-4 new characters is kidding themselves. Bioware likes creating new characters. Players (generally) like getting to know them. I don't really want to think about how shallow the content would have to be to accommodate nine romances plus new squadmates. All I ask is for the possibility of closure and my ME2 romances not to be dismissed as "just a fling." And for cameos to fit the characters shown. I do think non-LI characters actually have a better chance of returning.

Liara may return. I think she has the best chance of any character. But she may also have a plot-critical NPC role.

Yes, as does every LI.  I'm just saying that most ME players aren't as devoted to the characters as the ones that are currently active on the BSN.  We are still around because we love the characters and the MEU.  Most ME fans only come around close to a new game's release.    When ME3 is announced and they start showing teaser trailers, you'll see an influx of people who don't care as much about the old characters...they just want to see the new stuff.

2007, which would be 4-5 years if ME3 comes out in 2011 or 2012.
