Hopefully I'll finish the whole picture tomorrow - then it's back to commissions for a while.

Looking great! I like the expression on Liara's face.

I was always more curious about why they decided to scrap the original plan with the reunion in general? Where she becomes the SB. Are they planning something with it later, or did they not like how it turned out in the end, and just decided to get rid of it? I guess the real reason probably won't come to the surface anytime soon.

I really, really hope that they just scrapped that whole thing.

Has there ever been a discussion about the small difference between a male and female Shepard regarding the scene just before the kiss in ME 2? Liara seems to (begin to) say or whisper something to a female Shepard, that isn't there with a male Shepard. Probably just left over from the "real" reunion scene, forgotten to remove in one instance?

It's been discussed and we've came to the conclusion that it has real deep meaning:  BW hacked up the scene and forgot to remove that little animation from the FemShep version.  I'm assuming they had to make gender-specific versions of that scene, given the height difference between Fem and Dude Shepards.

I couldn't  agree more. Once I heard the audio files I had a bit of a panic attack. I don't think they will use them, to me it looks like they just didn't like the way it was going and scraped it.

Well, there's going to be DLC that bridges the ME2/ME3 story, so this could possibly be where Liara (and Ash/Kaidan) can fit in and they can be reintroduced?

Yeah, most likely. I suspect the scene was planned quite differently, but hacked to pieces and clumsily put together again, for whatever reason. I wonder if they actually have voice recordings for the real scene? The voice actors might know, Shepard's had thousands of lines of course, but Liara's, as we all know, had very little. :( Unfortunately, they wouldn't be allowed to tell us either.

Whether or not she becomes the SB I still believe we'll have to wait until ME3 for her to join us on the normandy.  I think that in the Liara DLC we will deal with the shadow broker, but something (whether or not it's her going through the files) will come up, making us have to wait until ME3.

Thats a awesome sign.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up, Liara DLC would be wicked, but I don't want to set myself up for a fall.

Agreed, personally I never really thought she was going to be back on the Normandy in ME2, but if they do the DLC right they could bridge the gap between games in proper fashion, and with much less contraversy.

EDIT: That being said they could surprise us(although very doubtful), and put her in your cabin. But they would have to do that for Kaiden/Ash as well.

That, to me, would be ideal.  Actually, I'm so tired of anything that can happen before Omega 4 that I haven't played ME2 in a month.  (I've been comically attempting to play Top Spin 2 on my PC instead.  With my vidcard that someone told me is 'just good for watching DVDs'.  Oddly enough, I don't have as much problems with Dragon Age, so I think I'll just file TS2 under 'porting disaster' with Saint's Row 2 and move on, but I am SO getting a 4870 or a GTX260 as soon as I can afford one.  But I digress.)

Seriously, though, the level cap, the reset of the Paragon/Renegade meter on NG+, and the fact that my first Shepard did, in fact, get through everything alright with no DLC items used, let alone fully purchasing everything, means that to me the only replay value was playing as an Adept.  (Oddly enough the character I used to create my Adept was a Vanguard -- I like biotics, I just hate light armor, and the new Vanguard isn't my style of fighting.  When you're close enough for hand-to-hand combat ... ya done something wrong with your guns.)

So to my eyes ... well, I think I might get Overlord, because BW was lucky enough with my lowering standards that it actually met my expectations, but other than that, I'm not too sure I'll be getting anything until Casey's estimation that everyone's finished the game is valid.  And I really do hope we get some exposition-Liara content in those, but part of me thinks I CAN survive until a probable expansion, as long as it gets announced soon.

And finally --
@ Sunnie and Les, regarding the size of the fanbase and the forums and the like -- Woo himself, in what I took to be a left-handed reassurance regarding some people's worries (Okay, Nozy's worry, 200 pages ago, that if we don't present a united front shouting how badly we hate ME2 and Liara's portrayal in particular, they'll drop her from the game in ME3), said that (paraphrasing a little, I never asked him permission to quote, after all) "The forum itself is a small percentage of the fanbase as a whole, so we won't go eliminating characters based on how one thread in a forum goes."  It's a LHR because it seems to say that 'neither will we beef up a character dot dot dot' ... then again, the Talimancers got heard pretty well somehow, from what I can tell.
Still, this IS a small percentage of the fanbase.  But the two dozen or so who regularly post are nearly all of the most RABID fans of Liara in existence -- though there are a few on DeviantArt that haven't found their way here like wingedmoggy -- and I don't see anything wrong with that.  Even if we ARE in pic-spam mode as a holding pattern until we learn more, for now.

I actually think that allowing the Council to die is not only the smart thing to do, but one that at least two-thirds of the Council would accept without question.  If the Alliance runs out of ships to take out Sovereign because they lost them defending the Council, then, even if they don't buy the Reaper threat, they'd have to presume that they'd be killed anyway shortly after Sovereign consolidates control over the station.

As I always say, if the alliance fleet didnt concentrate on saving the council, and saved those ships for sovereign, those ships would be then flanked and decimated by the geth fleet as they turn and help their "god". I definitely side with saving the council as the wiser decision, if not for the immediate tactical benefits, then for the long term power stability.

As for the station control, once Shepard had control, Sovereign could just float there and do nothing. An insider was the lynchpin of the entire plan, without it Sovereign was a sitting duck. Its no coincidence that it reanimated Sarens corpse. As long as Shepard was at the command console the reaper invasion was never going to happen. Some people seem to think Sovereign just sitting there on the spire somehow still risked the relay opening.

Valid point.  From what we know of the invasion, Sov would be derailed indefinitely without Saren even if he does take out all of the Alliance.  It's just one of those tactically-wise, not-entirely-pure decisions my character would occasionally make.  Like sacrificing the hostages on the asteroid to be able to take down Balak without risking him living to kill again... it seems like a valid reason, especially if you have Shepard say "The price was three lives, and if I have to see their faces tonight in my dreams, I'll gladly pay that price to save a million more."  (Then, you find out that it has no significant effect on the next game. *sighs*  Seriously, just give us one more free DLC where it opens with Balak killing about a hundred people if he lived, his second-in-command otherwise, and it actually doesn't happen if you killed both of them.  Call me crazy, that's all I'm asking.)

I found quite funny that when you meet Liara in ME2 she says the same quote that Benezia in ME1 ("Have you ever faced an asari commando unit? Few humans have"). I don´t know if it was just an easter egg or it may mean something more, but it was definitely curious.

About Balak i agree completely, i always kill him and his lieutenant (more for roleplay reasons than anything else, my shepard is a colonist/war hero who hates batarians) and i am also sligthly annoyed that no paragon decisions come back to bite you in the ass in the future, specially in the case of Balak. At least Bioware made sure that important decisions like the council, wrex or the rachni had more reasonable outcomes. I think they figured that the Balak mission was dlc (even if on Pc is now free) and decided not to give it any major role.

Thats one thing I'm really worried about with a Liara/SB DLC. If they do make it, they may just view it with that same frame of mind(of not being that important). Thus hand-waving a lot of the content for ME3, because not everyone will buy the DLC they may think they can't put important info in it or people will get confused.

Not an easter egg. A bridge to what happened before, and a manifestation of developments in her character. Good writing actually - so far. But of course it isn't enough to just throw it in, it has to be explained and expanded upon. The ideas are there to make it interesting, it's the execution that's so bad and amateurish.

Where did you get the notion that ME 1 was not centered around the characters? It was, very much so. Of course it was also focused on the main story, which ME 2 was not.

To say "hey, ME 2 is just different, it's focused on the characters" is just an excuse, because story and characters are not mutually exclusive, nor should they be. In fact, there can be a symbiosis. ME 1 came somewhat close to this, ME 2 didn't even try.

Meh, don't even bother trying to argue with kraidy.  From the way he talks I doubt he ever even played ME1 and just regurgitates a lot of the "truths" thrown around about the first game.  Your wasting your time there sir.  I do wonder why he even comes to this thread though, you don't see me trolling the Miranda thread every couple of weeks.  /shrug  Probably becaues you guys always give him the attention he is after.
