lol always wonder how many side tabs Liara is keeping on Shepard. How often she is "checking" in on Shepard as she is out doing her mission. You know she would be... :P

Well Les, I just compared the romanced/non-romanced Liara encounter.
I got to say, I was a little skeptical about the subtle differances you talked about. But upon review of the videos, your right, the difference is there. Its pretty faint, but I can definitly see  it. Its pretty heart warming actually.Image IPB

There! You see J? Other people see it too! I'm not crazy after all!!

I think it's most noticeable when Liara says "It's very good to see you!". If she's romanced, she smiles. If not, it's more of a stoic expression.

and thats what true love would be called, shows Liara's character.

Indeed, Mithran! Liara's guilt, grief and love for Shepard is visible in these particular moments in ME2:

lol every time I make it to that point in one of my "runs" of the game it makes me sad b/c atm you can do nothing to really show you care for her and that your not upset, but happy for the second chance to be alive and see her again.. and to later be together with her again!^_^

Another thing I noticed.

I've never actually heard the dialog at the non-romanced scene before, and when she says "Ah...Shepard..." she seems much more relaxed and comfortable around Shepard than if they are romanced.

And by "comfortable" I mean less stressed out and worried.

Yeah. I think that shows that there's another dynamic to Liara's guilt and pain over handing Shepard's corpse over to Cerberus, and her fear that Shep will hate her. These feelings go a little deeper, and it manifests iself as a fear of being intimate, despite the fact that she wants to.

I want a frame by frame analysis of this 'difference'. I've watched both and see no difference.

Try playing them both side-by-side, J. It's there, trust me. I think they may have made a conscious effort to have Liara seem a little more warm and open if she's your LI. It's way too subtle, though.

Would be hard. Turn the one person you love the most into the only organization that could bring you back. This organization being a group well known for their "deeds", also knowing from when you two ran into them while out on your mission against Saren, seeing the dark, sick, twisted experiments they were running. Then here is this person standing in front of you. Alive, you love them yet you handed them of with the best reasons to the this group. What do they think of you? would be tough to go through. not knowing what to expect in the first time seeing them again after it all. The pain of it would be hard alone, yet knowing what she knew...

Try looking at "My sources said you were alive, but I never believed....It's very good to see you again." To me, that part is most obvious that there's a difference in Liara's facial expression.

Yeah....there's alot that's going on inside that poor little blue head. She's seriously, seriously troubled, and hurt badly. Can't wait to eventually comfort Liara, and reassure her. Plus rekindle and reconcile the romance.

Seriously? You can't see Liara's more strained smile as she says that line when she's your LI?

I believe I noticed a difference in it. Slightly but to the games best ability to show it.

its a difference between a pained smile and a warm welcome back smile to me. a warm smile b/c she loves you yet showing pain of the facts that transpired while you were "dead" and what she did to get you back.

Going back to what Mithran said about Liara's mental and emotional strength, I think that has always been the case, and is very evident. Liara doesn't allow her grief for Benezia to compromise the mission, or let it waiver her ability to contribute and help out Shepard. When Shepard dies, rather than sit around and wallow in grief and pity, she attempts to put things right by going out to hunt Shepard's body down. That shows great mental and emotional strength, IMO.

Yes I would agree. She didn't let it stop her from helping Shepard. When Shep died she went in search of the one she loved to get the body so that Shepard's enemies couldn't get their hands on her. Stayed tough and gave the body to those likely to get Shepard back up and running to save the galaxy. Knowing that the one you love could end up not understanding her reasons and hating you for it would show Liara's strength alone. She was willing to deal with Shepard hating her for it but to just be alive in the galaxy. To be alive and to do what Shepard does best. When Shepard comes back in and gives what little relief and comfort to Liara she can that she is thankful for her doing all that she did I imagine it took a great weight off Liara's back.

I will be very happy when we can truly comfort and reassure Liara that Shepard loves and cares for her deeply and always will.

Your right. I was always a bit shocked how quickly Liara put Benezia's death behind her. Truth be told, I always wished Liara would talk a little more about her mothers death, I'm sure Shepard would have lisened and comforted her appropriately. But ultimately that was Liara's choice.
