The Citadel wasn't dark or edgy enough in ME1.  So they fixed it.  Not being able to walk around in the Presidium is totally badass.

I don't really like the red armor either. Even though I'm for more RPG elements, I always choose the companions I like, and the clothing/armor that looks best.

Speaking about the Citadel, here's a bit from that discussion with Mr. Woo:

Yes, that was kinda the flak that we got. "It's too different." Even though the game played faster, it was more exciting, more immediate, and had fewer stoppages in the story like the hours and hours walking around the Citadel in ME1. ;) Believe me, I shared many of the same reactions when I first started working on it, but once the game got to a certain point in development, I made myself some Kool-Aid and realized, hey wait a minute, this is actually WAY more fun than I originally gave it credit for!

Are you saying you aren't grateful that they removed the "stoppages"?

I'm saying the size of the Citadel in ME2 rips me right out of in-game immersion.  I'm also saying they're rationalizing lies.  They had to make the game smaller due to hardware limitations on the XBox.

Its funny because those "stoppages in the story" are one of the things that I missed about ME1, mainly because it wasnt a "stoppage" in the story, it was just a breather from constant ****** combat.

I dont think its fun to be quickly jumping from one shallow shooting gallery to the next. I think its tedious and completely boring, and its why ME2 has such crap replayability.

Honestly if attitudes like this dont change, I wont be buying ME3. ME2 was far too dumbed down and TPS oriented for my tastes. It ceased being an "aspect" of the game, and became the centre piece, and when I play ME2 its impossible to ignore it. Christina Norman wrote that the goal in ME2 first and foremost was "making a shooter that stood on its own, with the rest of the stuff following". It shows, and I hate ME2 because of it.

Two main things I need to see change to consider buying ME3:

1. To be convinced the plot and certain characters (ME1 LIs) are getting the attention necessary to bring them to a satisfying and (more importantly) extensive conclusion - no crappy support roles now, not after what ME2 did.

2. To be convinced that the shooter aspect is just that again: an aspect of the game. Yes, youve had youve "lets build a shooter" pet project, and I blew my money on it and hated it, and its almost ruined the series for me. Can it now be crammed back into the position it belongs, and more attention now be given to the gameplay that allows you to NOT be forced into playing the game like its Gears of War with a dialogue system?

I don't consider anythign in ME a "stoppage" , I am a natural explorer, so I love to run around and look in all the nooks and crannies of everything. I LOVED the Citidel in ME, theres was nothing that was a stoppage.

I doubt that, since all that'd be needed is a third disc.

I absolutely agree, those "stoppages" were an important part in the game. I liked the Citadel, I liked the elevators, I even liked such small details as actually leaving and entering the Normandy. It's what made the game feel like one whole. But as he said, they have to make it "immediate" now. That sums it up quite well. Immediate action, immediate rewards. But little substance. I told him that I don't like it, even told thim that it feels to me as if they're abandoning their old fans. He says they don't and won't. We'll see.

Is this related to Liara? Maybe somewhat: Were the ME 1 LIs too complicated? Is that the reason they're not in ME 2? Are they going to be more "immediate" too if they're in ME 3?

Here she smiles if you romanced her, if not she keeps a blank face when she says "Its very good to see you".

She never smiles like that for me...I just watched that part with a romanced and nonromanced Shepard....it looks the exact same.

I  heard they couldn't, or wouldn't, include more than two discs.

Flux apparently wasn't 'badass' enough, either, hence Darkstar lounge . . .

That's probably it.  I have the PC version and her facial expressions are identical regardless of romance.  I've looked many many times and see no difference.  Liara's expression is always the same as it is shown in this video.

Maybe they think that would be too much for XBox users. When a franchise goes console symplifying follows too many times. Where in the story is the disk swap anyway? Horizon?
