I absolutely agree, those "stoppages" were an important part in the game. I liked the Citadel, I liked the elevators, I even liked such small details as actually leaving and entering the Normandy. It's what made the game feel like one whole. But as he said, they have to make it "immediate" now. That sums it up quite well. Immediate action, immediate rewards. But little substance. I told him that I don't like it, even told thim that it feels to me as if they're abandoning their old fans. He says they don't and won't. We'll see.

Is this related to Liara? Maybe somewhat: Were the ME 1 LIs too complicated? Is that the reason they're not in ME 2? Are they going to be more "immediate" too if they're in ME 3?

I understand your concern, but still i think ME2 (with it´s many flaws) has improved many things over ME1. Apart from the obvious ones (graphics, animations, user interface, controls etc.) they have also improved upon the characters. In ME1 Wrex had a "loyalty" mission to get his family armour, or Garrus with dr. Saleon. On ME2 that concept was expanded a lot more to add very depth personal missions that make you know more about the character.
What i mean is that yes, i can see where ME1 was better (i was also very annoyed that the citadel was a stupid 3 floor market) but i still believe ME2 is an improvement over the first game. At least for me the story was good enough and the gameplay made up for the rest. I honestly enjoyed ME2 a lot, nearly as much as i did ME1. I am speaking in general terms of course, i understand how the minor role Liara played in ME2 may be annoying to the fans out here (i include myself), but still i think the game as a whole was a worthy sequel.
Anyway just to put something more liara-related, i bet many of you have already watched this video, but still i find it interesting, may have hints of what is to come.^_^

And I disagree. Strongly. And not because of the whole Liara situation. If only it were "just" that. There are too many steps back, too many cut corners, too many important things removed, too many occasions of bad writing. I'm still waiting for the real ME 2, maybe ME 3 will be it.

Anyway, back to the topic...

I too am waiting for the real ME2, there were just too many things I found wrong with what they did with ME2. Don't get me wrong, I like ME2 ok, but it is nowhere near how great ME was overall. We seem to be a minority in BWs eyes, so don't expect anything to really change for ME3...

I've been doing some additional thinking about my story while I wait for clarification on a couple of canon points, so I was wondering: if Liara had to pick a moment to illustrate her relationship with Shepard and why she loves him/her, what would she pick and why?

Characters in ME2 was not only an area it failed to improve over ME1, but an area where it took a step back.

You made a mistake bringing up Wrex and his loyalty mission, because essentially what ME2 did is take that concept, and like everything else they dumbed it down.

In ME1 Wrex gives the player his loyalty mission through carefully pursuing his dialogue. Its brought up in conversation and is naturally given to the player. Add to that it also comes up at a critical moment in the story, where "being there for Wrex" is an important part of the decision Wrex makes.

In ME2, whether or not you have talked to them, Yeoman Chambers will inform the player said character wants to see them. Not only is the loyalty mission given regardless, it has NO impact whatsoever on the main plot other than an arbitrary "loyalty" marker. It removes the personal element and simply leaves it as "loyal = lives not loyal = dies".

No improvement there.

I found this with the whole ME2 squad. The individual writing wasnt always bad (sometimes it was) but it was all self-contained. It wasnt part of anything larger, it was "just another loyalty mission" for "just another squadmate".

ME2 was an absolute failure for some of us, and I hope Bioware doesnt forget that. The story and its majority makeup of a "checklist" sucked, the characters seem expendalbe and isolated from the main plot (with the exception of Miranda and Mordins contributions which are quickly forgotten), and it accomplished nothing with the reapers.

The combat was definitely more precise in terms of shooting, but thats not a universal improvement if its used to taint the rest of the game with crate littered shooting galleries where the game is cut into short, forgettable pieces.

Holy smokes! That alone could be a book in and of itself... My Shep and Liara were inseperable, they shared everything there was in ME, the good and the not so good.

Well, I always thought that Shepard's trust for Liara, in spite of her connection to Benezia, would be the first thing about Shepard Liara would have appreciated.  So, that moment would be the first dialog after recruiting Liara. Another possible one, Shepard's words of comfort after Benezia's death.

Actually, with the new patch, 1 hour of scanning means no need to scan ever again. And it's actually fun to do, if you play some music or a podcast.

I hate that picture. It made me doubt my choice in romance. Especially since she's scary and all.

1 hour is too much.. I spend 2 minutes total scanning planets in an entire playthrough now.. thats 58 minutes I recover to pew pew pew or prance around in my moded clothing making movies and screen shots ;)

Not really. I romanced her and she doesn't smile on that part. I have seen a few videos of it, and in some she does smile and others she doesn't. I have no idea why, but it's not b/c of the romance.  But it's a very cute smile

She smiled to my male-shep, but didn't smile to my fem-shep. Don't know if that's the pattern.

As far as we have been able to tell, 360 users get the smile, PC don't.. it could also be the male/female Shep thing too... But so far everyone sayign they see the smile are playing on 360, I believe.

Difference between PC and 360 versions...

No, I got this smile on my pc version and 360 version too.:?

Although, in one of my runs on the 360 I never got it, or any of her other smiles that I normally get here and there. I think it may be glitched or something.

Hmm, definitely agree with what J said regarding Shepard telling Liara that she trusts her, regardless of the fact that Benezia is working with Saren. Liara would have appreciated that alot. In a similar fashion, if Shepard tells Liara that she doesn't need to talk to her at the Port Hanshan reception desk on Noveria, because she trusts Liara and is a part of her crew. That level of trust is something Liara would appreciate greatly.

Also, I think that Liara would like how Shepard respects her decision and wish to not enter into the asari union with her immediately, and that Liara wants to be absolutely sure or their love and trust for each other before she considers that. Liara would be very grateful for how respectful and considerate Shepard is to her in that regard.
