I was talking to J before about how stressed out Liara is in ME2. She suggested something that I thought was spot on. One of the possible reasons that Liara's pupils are smaller in ME2 is because they're dilated. She may be taking stimulants in order to keep herself and awake and alert. She's getting little sleep. Makes me feel pretty sad.

Hi MDK, how's it going? Weren't you working on an interesting new piece of art?
I was until that pic completely destroyed my muse.........I'm sick of finding lines I haven't seen that just reinforce how much I hate what they did to Liara in ME2.

You need to see how she actually delivers that line and in what context it is said in, MDK. The manner in which Liara says it is just heartbreaking. She seems so tired, so stressed, so exhausted, so...overwhelmed. Working as an information broker, a job she hates, and her emotional pain, her guilt, her fear, her grief is really taking it's toll on her.

I'm sorry Les, I really am - but to be honest that's too much reading into it, even for me.
I think I'm finally facing facts that the character has been butchered.

It certainly was, I thought that was consensus already. That's actually an important reason why I like fan art for this game more than for any other, including of course your art - it portrays what could've and should've been.

Well, I can't necessarily argue with a lot of what you say, MDK. Even though I have done some reading into Liara in ME 2, I still feel a little uneasy as to the new shift in direction of character. Not that I hate the game as a whole (a very good one on the whole), but Im surprised that a small element such as this can be jarring to me.

The thing with Liara's pupils is just speculation, I agree. They've probably made them smaller in order to make her look less physically appealing.
But, Liara's guilt and emotional pain is very much present, however. That can't be denied, nor can the fact that she hates working as an information broker. I agree that Liara's ME2 scenes need exposition and elaboration, but what's there is there.

And I still think they kept her and the other two back because of a big expansion sorrounding them...keeping us fans of them hungry for more of them

Hates some parts of it, yes, but at the same time, she takes pride in the fact that she's a 'very good information broker'.
Her ME2 role is a total hack job, though fans can take some positive things out of it by looking into it a bit deeper. We shouldn't have to do this as much as we do, tough.

Yep. CH said that very soon they're going to start producing DLC that bridges the gap between ME2 and 3, and that it will be content that is set after the Collector Base mission. Perfect opportunity to reintroduce Ashley, Kaidan and Liara into the story.

I like the dimension added by her guilt and self-loathing. She's very good at what she does, but hates herself for it. Liara's wormed herself quite comfortably into my brain. The problem is that her motivations for going after the SB are very badly explained. I don't mind making stuff up to fill the gaping holes (rather enjoy it), but I'm not Jane Q, Gamer, either. Major shifts in character should be explained.

Indeed. The gathering of knowledge, and deducing theories and taking evidence and information in order to make said theories? Something Liara would enjoy, as she's using her intelligence.
The strongarming and the general world of intrigue, however? Not at all.

Damn.....and there I was looking forward to having a good sulk....
I heard about the story based DLC - but if it is only accessable after the Collector Base, then that would allow those 3 to be reintroduced as squadmates without the chance of them dying - the reason they were kept out in the first place....
Then again, I kinda doubt it though - truth be told I've lost all faith in BW to do the ME1 LIs justice ever again.
.....yup, bad mood regarding Liara's back again.

If the DLC features these three, I don't think this will be where they are 'reintroduced' since not everyone will play the DLC. They wouldn't be formally reintroduced until ME3.

The reaper in the left could be more visible maybe. And where did you get the city at the lower part? An actual skyline?

Yeah, it's fun for us to think about and speculate on why Liara is acting the way she is, but the average gamer won't do this and will miss out on an appreciation of the character, since the writers didn't do a proper job. My worry is that many casual fans of ME (or new fans) all but hate Liara by now, because of this.

Better chance of that happening if it were an expansion pack, perhaps?
What this DLC or xPac or whatever could do is "free up" the ME1 LIs, and resolve the story or character arcs that prevented them from joining the squad in ME2, but wouldn't necessarily have them rejoining the Normandy at the end. You could help Liara deal with the Shadow Broker, but after the mission Liara will say that she needs to tie up a few loose ends on Illium, but that she'll promise to contact Shepard and rejoin the Normandy as soon as she can. With Ashley and Kaidan, you can convince them to rejoin Shepard and regain their trust after the whole Cerberus affair, but tell you that they still have an important mission to accomplish but that as soon as it's finish, they're back on the Normandy.
That way, the DLC/xPac still frees them up to be squadmates in ME3, but still leaves the ability to recruit them in that game. Possible?

Really good. I would have used Aliens and Terminator instead of Titanic and Avatar though. Hope he films Battle Angel before 12 years rather than a ME film.

That's what I think will happen. They won't join you, but they will be 'free' to do so in the future. The DLC will be a segway for their recruitment in ME3. For those that didn't play the DLC, Liara/Ash/Kaidan will briefly explain what happened in ME3.

Yeah, and for those that didn't play the DLC, there will be "default" choices selected for any decisions, kind of like a non-import Shepard in ME2. For example, if you have the ability to convince Liara to back down when you confront the Shadow Broker, or encourage her to kill him, then the default choice will be the Renegade jerkass one as it was in ME2.

It seems as if techno and general electronic are the universally-approved genres of music for the club-going ME races.
