I've only played through ME2 once, and I probably won't again until we get the Liara DLC/xPac. Liara was one of the main reasons I enjoyed ME1, she's without doubt my favourite character and I absolutely love everything about her. Playing through ME2 felt hollow, lonely and empty. It was hard playing it without having her "there". There are other aspects of the game I dislike too, and which I feel like was too much of a departure from aspects I loved in ME1, but that's for another thread.

Regarding Liara specifically in ME2, I don't mind the direction they're going with her. If it's done well, it can be very interesting and make me love her even more. The problem I have is with it's execution. It lacks clarification, it lacks exposition, and it lacks proper development. If Liara had received the attention she should have done in ME2, and we'd have gotten proper romance carry-over, then it could have been done quite well.

My advice is to give the game another playthrough, since I remember you wrote a while ago that you made an ME1 adept player. It's not going to change what's going on with Liara, but I'll keep you fighting for her. After all, isn't that what the picture scene means?

Plus, Samara's nice. And Garrus and Tali are with you. And Liara's always in the office.

Plus, if Liara and the surviving Alliance soldier will be squaddies again in ME3 and have integral roles, the DLC that will bridge ME2 to ME3 is perfect to reintroduce them into the story and resolve their character and story arcs, as I said a little earlier.

Didn't CH also say this DLC will be featuring characters we're already familiar with, and that they're "bringing them back", or something to that effect? Seems like a pretty big hint to me.

I think he said you would ahve the chance to develope more with familiar characters.

Or somthing to that extent Image IPB

This is what CH said...

It's hard to say. We have a bunch of packs that are in the works right now. So, for the time being there's going to be a continued stream of DLC for people. We'll start to have packs that'll tell the story between Mass Effect 2 and 3. But beyond that we kind of have to see how people are responding to what we have and go from there.

It was in that video that Shav linked to before, the one which showed the Ashley version of the picture scene. He said something about using DLC to reintroduce familiar characters, or something like that.

@TMA, I know, but playing through ME2 the first time was hard enough. It's so lonely without Liara there, she was one of the chief reasons as to why I enjoyed ME1 so much. Like I said, I'll play through it again with my Adept Shepard once we get the Liara content, as I want to enjoy what I would consider the "complete" ME2 when I playthrough it with her for the first time. When I play ME2 with my Adept FemShep, I want to experience Liara's full role.

Since it's likely Liara's expanded role won't kick in until after the suicide mission, you still could play ME2 up through the suicide mission, while you wait for the rumored Liara DLC/Xpac.  You wouldn't be missing anything.

I know, but playing the game won't feel..."complete". It's hard to explain, and I'm probably being a little emotional. :P

I don't want to play through ME2 again until we get what I consider the "complete" version of the game, with Liara's full and expanded role and everything.

I think that, if the ME2 squad has recorded dialog for ME2 DLC, it will only be superficial comments as any one of them could be dead.  None of them can have a major role in this bridging story DLC.  Liara and the Virmire survivor can, though, which is why I think it would be more likely to feature them over ME2 squad mates.

Oh yeah, I mean that much looks to be true from the Dragon Age DLC, where folks were plainly told it was not cost effective or somesuch. I just expect them still to be there in the forefront in terms of "Shepards squad". Id like the DLC to start shaking them off in terms of that role though.

Its like Casey Hudson saying about "youve got the full squad now" and how the DLC released so far was built with the idea that "not everyone had finished the game yet".

I dont expect reams of dialogue for the ME2 squad, but the best I can hope for is that this "bridge the story gap" DLC might start getting folks comfortable with the idea that these expendable mercenaries who made up the "super deep, super loyal to Shepard and super fleshed out suicide squad" might start going their own way now that "teh mishin" is complete.

Might make things a little easier come what some of us see as almost completely inevitable in ME3, which is them getting cameo roles becase they might be dead, and cant be squadmates because of that.

Translation...

As long as people keep throwing money at us for appearance packs and the like, we will keep making stuff like that. There was this concept of a totally beautiful DLC featuring a female looking Asari named Liara, but that remains in the drawer as long as the other stuff is so much more profitable.

I've taken to putting off the Liara reunion until the last possible moment. That way, the relationship doesn't feel as stagnate with Liara just sitting in her office and Shepard not being able to say much to her over a long period of time. I complete the last hacking mission shortly before the suicide mission launches, as this give a good reason why Shep/Liara can't communicate much after Shep parts from Liara on Illium.

I guess that is a good way of doing it , but even if you surive the mission you still can visit her and it seems like shes stuck there in her office,

See, I stop playing after the suicide mission and my Shepard waits patiently by her personal terminal in her quarters for an email from Liara.

That makes alot of sense, actually.

One thing that irritates me alot is that they have Liara finally open up to Shepard, and show love and intimacy at last, but then for some reason take all of that away again afterwards. We can only ask Liara how her work is going, we can't show her any love or share care for Liara on a personal level. Consequently, all Liara talks about is her hunt and the Shadow Broker and everything. If we were able to ask Liara anything on a personal level, she'd probably be intimate with Shepard again as she's already opened up. Gah!

Thanks! I do love the post-Therum debriefing, when Liara gets to properly introduce herself for the first time. We also get a proper look at her intelligence, as she tells us that she's (correctly) theorised that galactic extinction events occur in cycles. That's impressive that she's able to deduce that just from studying old ruins and artifacts.

Yeah, it sucks.  With my way of roleplaying it, I can at least say Shepard is too distracted with the shortly upcoming suicide mission.  B)

Probably trying to figure out if there's a big enough audiance for an expansion, since GTA4's expansions suffered because people were still playing GTA4, or people just not buying them. Should Liara's DLC be a 2 hour episode? Should it be something huge, and 10 hours long? And last, how many people are buying, and what are they willing to buy? That's what they're trying to figure out right now.

I go one step further, and flat-out pretend that Shepard and Liara are having deep, intimate and romantic conversations. Immediately prior to the suicide mission, I had my Shepard visit Liara and pretended that they said their emotional goodbyes to each other, with Shepard promising to return home alive. I then have my Shepard rush to Illium as soon as the SM is complete, and enjoy an emotional reconciliation with Liara.

I know that probably means I'm crazy. :o But whatever!

No, that's an OK way to RP it too...it's sad we have to add this with our own imagination.  When I RP the ME2 Liara romance, I try to avoid thinking the romance is reconciled at any point b/c I fear something in the future will contradict that and nullify it.  I keep it 'rocky' in my head since it is supposed to currently be rocky, until BW comes in and shows that it is not,

I hope they make it longer, but we'll see.

For now, those dang 'LiaraDLC' files are sitting on my harddrive, taunting me!

A part of me thinks that maybe that was their intention, and the reason as to why the "I couldn't let you go" dialogue path is so easy to miss. BioWare don't really want players to find it. They want to maintain the status quo of the relationship with Liara being troubled, and Liara thinking that Shepard will hate her as they're waiting for the epic romance reconciliation in the DLC, when we'll finally be able to comfort and console her, and reaffirm the romance. They want both Shepard and Liara to be unsure of each other. They just had to put that dialogue path in to give Liara fans that small glimmer of hope, and make it so that Liara doesn't give Shepard the cold shoulder completely, regardless of how easy it is to miss that dialogue option.

Well, that's how it's meant to be, storywise. In this chapter of your life, you're at odds with your LI, and you're forced to be away from them. Then you work with other people, and find yourself wanting them, despite wanting to remain faithful. You'll either move on, or love alone prevents it.
