When you romance Liara, the romantic conversations you have with her are sweet enough, but, depending on how you RP it, when you take Liara out with you, keep her with you at all times, the relationship feels so much more deep and emotional. It's like Shepard and Liara have become inseparable, traveling everywhere together. There's something quite uniquely romantic about taking cover next to Liara during combat.

This is the very reason I'm playing ME1 again instead of ME2. I'll get back to ME2 for import reasons, although there weren't really many major decision made. Just the Collector Base and that data you can send off to whoever you chose.

This. Liara may have reasons she can't be a certain way, but Shepard just does the
routine for no good reasons.

I know, it was kind of weird to experience "your" character being the reason there was no love scene at that point in the game, it's almost like the Lazarus project erased his romantic side.

Ever since BG 2 I have very little interest in any games other than RPGs. I don't mind action, but there has to be a proper story and interaction with NPCs. ME 1 was the pinnacle of this, not because of the amount or length, but because of the quality. ME 2 just can't keep up with that.
And indeed, Shepard shows more emotion when meeting Wrex or Conrad than with his own LI from ME 1. It's ridiculous.

I hope BioWare takes a good look at ME2 and the shooter style the created it in and they say to themselves, "This is not one of our RPGs".
They created a universe that was interesting and had Liara in it, then they took it all away in ME2. Hopefully they will give Liara back in the expansion and ME3 and the actual storyline back in ME3.
