Another way you could RP Shepard is to make decisions that you yourself would, and have Shepard become almost like an extension of your own personality. It might be easier to then create a backstory for Shepard now that you have a defined personality in mind.

I really, really cannot wait to see this next piece of artwork! It'll be sexy, and sensual, but in a very tasteful and respectful way that's true to both Shepard and Liara's characters.
Doesn't matter that I'm going to be staying up until silly o'clock in order to see it. I'll never be able to sleep in this heat anyway. :/

Speaking of Liara and sex, I have a couple of questions about asari practices generally. Anybody mind? I'll try to keep the questions (really one big question) as nongraphic as I can. I've tried to puzzle out a few things and have succeeded only in giving myself a large headache.

On the other hand, there is clearly a physical component to her relationship with Shepard, and I can't imagine they'd be as sexualized as they are if they weren't capable of having and enjoying coventional sex. The level of intimacy implied by the melding (even one not for reproduction) would be something some people have to work up to.

Very good question. It's debateable as to whether the asari would enjoy sexual intercourse with a human male as we know it, as their vaginas do not serve that purpose at all, and may just be a birth canal. It may actually be quite painful for them to be penetrated there, who knows? However, I do think that physical intimacy and sexual activity is something the asari enjoy, judging by what is shown in Liara's love scene. We're clearly shown Shepard and Liara engaging in physical sexual contact with each other, and enjoying that as part of the meld. One thing that is entirely possible is that an asari experiences physical pleasure during the meld when she joins minds with her partner and experiences everything that her partner does, including physical pleasure. That could be why the asari also enjoy physical sexual contact with their partner, despite it not being a necessary part of the asari union and not the height of their sexualities.

That interview was a load of crap - it was his special way of dodging the same-sex romance question by saying that as Liara "was asexual", ME2 would be no different to ME1 in terms of having same-sex romance.
Everyone knew it was a load of BS - the in-game codex says asari are female - simple as that.

I believe a dev once stated they do not enjoy sexual intercourse in the same manner as human females. Their 'part' is only meant as a birth canal, and not as a method of insemination. I'm not sure if they have erogenous zones in other places. Some like to think their head-fringes are, but this is all speculation.
I would imagine they'd enjoy most skin/skin contact, like a backrub and such. I would believe they'd also feel the pleasure of their partner through the mental bond. I also think the physical component varies dependent upon which species is involved. We know Salarians aren't big into the physical/sensual stuff, so I imagine an asari meld with one would focus mostly (if not entirely) on the mental aspect.
