Well..... here's Priestly's explanation in the resurrected Tali thread:bjdbwea wrote...
So the thread has been moved, along with all others. Out of the spotlight, so to speak. Hmm, does that tell us anything about the importance of the characters, I wonder...?
<_<Actually, it is EXACTLY my choice. I run these forums, not the Dev teams. I report to the Director of Marketing for EA. And, if I explain to him that threads I deem harmful to our forums are closed, they stay closed. Threads that go off topic (and yes this one has repeatedly) could be closed.
However, I was wrong to close off all discussion on a popular topic like Tali (or the other characters). As such, I have moved all character discussion threads here. HOWEVER, keep it on topic or it WILL be closed. That applies to all threads. All threads must obey the ROC here no matter the topic.
So get talkin' Tali.

I hope not...I think they are just trying to organize things more efficiently.
Well, it's more because it's hard look at the Mass Effect Spoilers thread, when new threads get buried within seconds by TALI, LIARA, ASH, GARRUS, KAIDAN, JACOB, SAMARA, etc. Also, it's starting to turn into tribes. Might as well put it all somewhere else, so people can be at peace with just talking about Mass Effect, with another place just talking about the characters.

This question is kind of OT. The thread(s) got moved? I'm confused.
EDIT: *sigh* nvm I figured it out.

I bet most people didn't see that part at the first time. Because usually the upper choice on the dialogue wheel is the more positive or supporting one. And in fact, that's how it reads in this case too. Plus, one would expect to be able to get any important information regardless of the order in which they click on the topics. That it doesn't work like that in this particular scene has to be either intentional, or a bug.
That was exactly my train of thought the first time I went through, thus I missed the hidden dialog. It does seem odd that an "investigate" option would lead the convo to a close. A bug would seem likely, but they could also be trying to hide it on purpose. Hard to tell(probably impossible).

Yeah, to use this as some sort of evidence that Liara will never play a prominent role again is a little farfetched, I think.
Actually, I was wondering more about the shiny new characters... Weren't the ME 1 LI threads on the old forums closed at some point, before or after it became known they had been sidelined? Just saying. As far as Liara is concerned, it seems as if she doesn't matter already, thread or no. It can only get better.
Wait, scratch that. She could still become a villain, or die, or disappear without a trace, or live happily after with Feron, or...

I think it was intentional. Like I said, I don't think they want too many gamers to find that dialogue path, as they want to tackle the proper romance reconciliation and the ability to comfort and console Liara in the DLC.
my thoughts as well. either when and if the DLC hits and or ME3

Or become an Ardat-Yakshi!
Argh. I shouldn't be so negative, even if it is jokingly and tongue in cheek!

Who knows. I'm just glad I read the forums before ME 2 release. At least I knew not to expect a full role for Liara. But I didn't expect she would be forced into such a crude, badly written scene.
Neither did I...I had some high hopes for her cameo. I figured you'd get to see her at different points along the main quest as well, especially before leaving to go off through the Omega 4 relay. But, noooooooooooo!

That's what I thought would be the case, too. Liara would make appearences at key points in the story, and there would be additional dialogue and scenes if she were your LI.
I remember back before release, some people were worrying that her cameo role would be as notable and extensive as Din Korlack's in ME1. People attempted to allay their fears, saying that they'd never have her in something so tiny.
They were spot on.

Ah you and your warnings. I wasn't at the forums at all before finishing ME 2, so I had to learn it the hard way.
Edit: What also was annoying was the fact that there was no further interaction with her as you said. I so cursed the writing and the game mechanics that you couldn't even infrom Liara about the Collector/Prothean reveal. <_<

But nevertheless after Illium the game experience was spoiled a little. Whereas before Illium I was very optimistic (I knew through a minor spoiler by a friend that Tali was recruitable, I had Garrus on my team, I was sure I will get them all back and especially Liara) so afterwards ME 2 felt very gloomy and melancholic for me.
I know, that's why I now put off the Liara/Illium encounter until the last possible moment. I don't recruit Thane/Samara until after all the others are recruited and their loyalty missions finished.

Since they announced a Mass Effect movie being in the works, what certain actresses do you people think would be good for Liara? For me, I can't think of anyone one, but one thing's for sure, is that when the movie comes out eventually, IF it comes out, I'll like it even more if there's romance with Shepard and Liara. Plus, I would predict having the asari in the movie appear the same with the actresses appearring with blue make up all over, and head mold design of their head fringe.
I would bet it would be done like AVATAR from James Cameron.
No reason for that. They did CGI characters because the design of that species was different enough from a human that conventional methods would not work. Asari are just human females with blue skin and a head fringe instead of hair. That is extremely easy to simulate on a human actress. Doing that CGI a'la Avatar would be a tremendous waste of money for an inferior result. Furthermore, the less like Avatar that the prospective Mass Effect movie is the better. I have better things to do than be lectured to by an imbecile like James Cameron.

Ha!
Actually my FemShep did it quite similar. (Had only 2 playthroughs up to now). With the first playthrough I visited Illium not very fast (I was quite tired when I was playing so i forgot what TIM had told me about Liara and Illium), but when I heard that Liara is waiting in her office I rushed there immediately.
In the second playthrough I also took my time and did other stuff before visiting Liara. Maybe not as that late as you did but much later than in the first one.
Well, I will leave now, goodnight all.

I wasn't at the forums at all before finishing ME 2, so I had to learn it the hard way.Because of my complete lack of knowledge about anything ME related I had some wonderful moments in ME 1, but in ME 2 I got the 'surprise' on Illium. It was a terrible experience. To be honest the handling of Liara was the only think that I didn't like with ME 2. (ME 1 my first RPG, played only shooters and sports + strategy games before --> ME 2 still far better than almost any game I ever played).

I feel your pain. I only joined these forums a few months ago. The reason I did because I wanted to absorb what other people thought of Liara after ME2. Like you, the reunion was a bit of a breaking point for me. I moved through the game until I found where Liara was,I wasn't very happy. I spent the whole rest of the game thinking that maybe she would show up in the squad. But as more and more blanked out squaddies came to the light, it was evident that was wishful thinking. I like to remain optimistic about the DLC, at the same time though, I'm prepared to deal with it, if never happens. I also hold hope that ME3 will clear the air, maybe its wishful thinking? But in my opinion its better then sitting in a self-induced gloom about it.

But to re-respond -- Holy heck a lot has happened since I last logged on.
I'm really sorry to see MDK go, but I've got him on watch on DeviantArt and have since a month ago, and I understand... it seems silly to require this sort of thing for an M-rated game, but considering how ratings work in the US and Canada, as I recall ME1 was genuinely pushing that, so I accept the reasoning. (If you're still lurking, though, I don't think anyone, save one, considers your work 'lesbian smut'. You are, and continue to be, the artist that does Liara the most credit of anyone I've seen.)
As for movie!Liara ... Ali Hillis is so integral to my picture of Liara that I'm tempted to say mo-cap Liara or even dub Ali over the live-action model. Failing that, I'm stumped as to who has the right balance of athletic build, piercing eyes and ... acting talent, to be able to pull it off, though when I think 'tall sexy nerd' I tend to think Leelee Sobieski.

Though as I said before, you could easily take the story from ME 1 and make a great movie out of it. It already has all the ingrediences to capture a much broader audience than just the video gamers. If on the other hand they take the story from ME 2 or write something similar for the movie, it will almost certainly fail.
