Not so much writing-wise, but the actual content. I really want this to be a fic to lift the spirits of the Liara-fanbase, while also working with what Bioware's given us in ME2 - so any advice/suggestions are welcome

I've read all three chapters of your fic last night...I really enjoyed the 'tender' scene Shepard and Liara shared right before it all went to hell and the Normandy was destroyed.   I'm curious what you are going to do with the Liara/Ash fight at the funeral scene....I'm glad you are going to detail in out in a future fic.

I just wonder why you are not going to redo the reunion scene?

What I do take issue with, however, is just like muskett said in that there's no option or ability to be supportive, caring and considerate of Liara, try to communicate with her on a more intimate and emotional level, rather than throwing a hissy fit. That's what I take issue with. Most other dialogue choices in the series have a Paragon, Neutral and Renegade option. The Paragon options, especially if Liara is your LI, are sorely lacking in her ME2 scenes.

But like you say, they had to maintain the 'status quo' of a rocky relationship.  So we get angry Shepard or Shepard.

They still could have allowed Shepard to attempt to comfort Liara, and just had Liara push her away and still maintained the 'status quo'.  I think that would have pleased some people (me included) and would have been really heartwrenching to see Liara push Shepard away.  I do like heartwrenching, though

"I don't want to copy it word for word, and I know that when I start writing my own dialogue, I could unintentionally change the tone of the scene. And as the annoyance at Liara's ME2 role is something I want to draw on for inspiration, I don't want to risk writing a scene that doesn't.....well.....do her injustice justice, so to speak..."

Basically, I want to write Shepard's anger at Liara's situation in ME2 - and the best way to do that is to leave the reunion scene as it is. Of course, that means I either leave it out completely, or just copy it completely from the game, which would be boring.

So instead of focussing on the scene itself, I'm going to write the aftermath. Afterall, we're all very familiar with the actual scene from the game - so it's easier to write based on that version of the scene, rather than a quickly written replacement scene.

Well, it will be interesting how you are going to explain Liara's, and most importantly Shepard's behaviour. Because that's what you have to do then, that's also what BioWare would have to do. The scene as it is now is simply bad and unrealistic. The only way to redeem that is to deliver some explanations later. To simply ignore it, would again be very bad writing.

By the way, welcome back. Are you still going to create more pictures too, or did some idiotic responses change your plans?

Oh the artwork hasn't stopped - I'm just on a writing rampage at the moment

As for the fic itself - giving reasoning for their behaviour is exactly what I'm looking forward to doing. Both Liara's treatment of Shepard - as more an aquantance rather than a friend, let alone lover, and Shepard's seemingly emotionless reactions will be explained in as realistic a fashion as I can come up with.

Put simply - Shepard's famous face will be given an explanation

I do agree...if you are not going to add more dialog to the reunion scene then there's no point in re-writing what BW has already done, and they've done such a wonderful job!  /sarcasm

I can rewrite many aspects of ME2, I can also in ME but more in ME2 because the main story is just pure messy writing.

I referred to Shep as an "emotionally constipated idiot" on another thread and I stand by that. I think my dream ending would be Liara deciding she deserves better and finding a more emotionally supportive partner.

Thats why I force my self to forget about the scenes and play a diffrent scene in my head
