Well let's hope he's exaggerating or he changes his mind come late 2011/early 2012.

I lost all hope now in ME3. I will be going in with low expectations now.

Personally I think there is just as much room for success as there is for disaster. I don't doubt that Mass Effect III will be anything short of a great game, however how they manage characters is a different story. How they did Liara in Mass Effect II was sad, but may be for a better reason told in DLC content or the next game. Confident that Liara will be brought back into the light in a good way for Mass Effect III, I hope they remain true to the trilogy. Making the third and last game for the trilogy a game people new to the Mass Effect world sounds like bad news. Many ways they can handle this, most leading to disaster I think but always a good chance it will be epic. As long as they can bring back Liara as an LI and squaddie I will be happy, and as long as she is well written. The games besides how they did some of the characters have been good with me.

Let's not forget Casey Hudson says a lot of stuff thats complete hogwash (Liara being asexual, people thought scanning was fun, the list goes on...and on). Use that logic in this case and Casey is most likely just pitching the game.

I think Casey is just being diplomatic. The ME games have to stand alone somewhat, otherwise they would just be expansions of ME1. Think about how confusing and anti-climatic ME2 would be (I know it already was, but even more so) if you started on it instead of ME1. Now aply that logic to ME3, It would make no sense whatsoever.

Even if Casey said it, I really doubt its *all* about new players. I mean if it was they wouldn't have called theVAs back for The council,Shiala,Conrad, hell even Wrex, etc. Our choices did carry over, and yes the consequences of your choices have not had much impact...yet. I know the whole import save file thing could have been better, its true. But its never been done before either so.....
Thats enough of a rant. I don't want be responsible for derailing the thread further, so lets get back to Liara.Image IPB

Well when it comes to your choices dont expect any big effects in ME3 either, also if you think about it there werent many choices in ME2 that could have an impact anyway aside from the final one

Also in terms of romances I dont expect any big impacts for cheating,if they cameo the ME2 romances which is quite likely we wont see any sort of confrontation, also I expect not much from ME1 ronances on that,my guess is they will be angry for a few lines and then revert to normal

Also in terms of Liara I wouldnt be suprised if they bastardize the character even more exspecially should she be a squadmate again,my money still is on something like making her an asari commando fighting in stripper atire, while pretending the rest of her involvment never existed

Though I have the vain hope they give the squadmates armor again, that is suited for a battlefield,Liara fighting in stripper attire or in her ME2 dress would really suck then again ME2 doesnt give much hope for that

The way I see it, they can go one of two ways with Ashley, Kaidan and Liara's respective romances in ME3:

Create a unique, loyal romance path for them that is unavailable to new players, or reset the romance and have it available to new and old players alike, with alterations to dialogue for the players who started the romance back in ME1.

I hope we do get a unique romance path with Liara in ME3 for staying loyal, and that there are rewards also. I'd be ecstatic if that were the case!

It is my absolute deepest hope that, that is what our so called "reward" for staying loyal is.

Of course I'm hoping for a unique path for those of us who were loyal, too, but that is unlikely. They did everything to "alienate" Liara, probably to make it "plausible" for the romance to be reset :-/

"It's been two years...and even before it was probably just in the heat of the moment....let's take it slow and start over"

hm...can someone help me switch my optimism back on? :-(

When I think of a three part romance across a trilogy, I think of it as going something like this:

Part One: Courting and consumation.

Part Two: Rocky chapter. Adversity.

Part Three: The development of the romance into something deep, spiritual and bonding together to become true soulmates.

If they do a unique romance path for staying loyal to Liara, then they'll most likely do something like that. At least, I hope they do so.

They wont write an unique path for those who romanced her since ME1,aside from one or two lines if we're lucky,a complete path would most likely be considered a waste of ressources, also why write something the new players they want to draw in again wont see anyway

The only thing that gives me hope that they will create a unique romance path is that Liara is 100% guaranteed to be in every single player's ME3 save file, and therefore she'll have alot of development time, resources and attention dedicated to her. That's what gives me some hope.

Likewise with Ashley and Kaidan. They now both occupy the same role in the story, and one is always guaranteed to be alive whilst the other dead. They cover for each other.

To be honest. The Ash/Kaidan fans should be more angry than us, their characters are bound to be two sides of the same coin. The Vimire survivor.

Ash/Kaidan fans have even more to worry about because they'll probably have almost the exact same lines ....

That's what concerns me also. That Ashley and Kaidan will become this sole interchangeable entity.

I have nightmares of Ashley telling us about how she fell in love with Rahna at BAaT, and Kaidan recounting how his grandfather surrendered Shanxi to the turians!

I wonder if Liara gets special treatment, though. I mean she is, like you said LET, in every player's ME3 and plays a rather significant role in ME1 and ME2(by retrieving Shepard's body). Now there is the Shadow Broker situation - again significant to the plot.

In ME3 this may apply to other romance-options, too, because they'll help get the corresponding factions on board, but Liara had 2 major roles by now, so she may get something special......which might make fans of the other romancable characters angry though ....

There are only 2 other LI who are important in the grand scheme of things. Tali and Miranda.

I don't know...maybe the Virmire Survivor will need to help you to get the Alliance on board. I mean they may say that they don't trust you anymore, so you need Ash/Kaidan to help you out.

For what faction would I need Miranda's help for? Wait...wrong question - why would I need Miranda's help to get Cerberus on board?
