I think its funny that even she wonders how a movie about "forging your own path" will play out.

I caught that too. Funny how an actress who's sole involvement with the Mass Effect series is providing the model for Liara's face and body is also expressing reservations about the ME movie.

Indeed. Of course it would be great to have Liara as a companion. That said, if it were like the ME 2 companions, that would still be kind of disappointing. Because in my opinion, that 1+1+0 approach (one hour recruitment mission, one hour loyalty mission, zero additional involvement) is quite lame. Plus, the romances in ME 2 feel short and now way near as real and alive as those in ME 1. It all can't hold water to the way the ME 1 companions were written, or the DA companions for that matter. Having played ME 2 and now playing DA again, makes me appreciate the latter even more than I did before.

I do prefer the structure of the romances in ME1. They progress along with the story, and you can't rush through them at all. Plus, Ashley, Kaidan and Liara express aloy more concern for Shepard's wellbeing. Their romances are very much a two-way thing.

Plus, the locker scene does something that no ME2 romances has: integration into the main plot. I absolutely love it when Liara comes to Shepard's aid during a moment of vulnerability, to reinvigorate Shepard and fill her with renewed confidence and determination to carry on.

I completely agree with everything you said here.

Who else hope there is a scene like the locker scene in ME3? A scene where Shepard actuely shows some weakness and distress, and integrate the LI into the main plot.

I certainly hope so. Like I said, the locker scene with Liara is one of my absolute favourites in ME1. It really helps to affirm the strength of the romance and their relationship, and it shows Liara caring for Shepard's own wellbeing.

I don't think we'll see something like that again, unfortunately. The questions is, how many LIs will there be in ME 3? I guess people would complain if they'd all have the same scene (and that's realistically the only way you could implement it). I for one wouldn't mind it though.

We can only hope Les.

Also having just started a replay of ME2. Anybody else thinking that the conversation you have with Dr. Chakwas while sharing a drink would be a perfect time to mention the Liara romance? But no, Bioware just had to make it all "dark, edgy, rocky relationship that you wish to cheat on" bs.

Yep. I thought that on my first playthrough.

Also, I would have loved the ability to end any potential ME2 romance before it even begins by declaring your loyalty to Liara to the new LIs. That shouldn't have been that hard to include.

That's one of the few scenes in the game I really like. But as you said, the most obvious choice is again artificially withheld.

I wish I had the option to say to Miranda when she shows intrest.

"I think we both know thats not gonna happen."

Also another thing I would complain about.

Why does neither Tali or Garrus mention the ME1 romances? It just seems so out of character for both them.

:pinched:

"Commander, I thought that you were in a relationship with Liara? Are you sure about this?"

Was it really that hard?!

Here's an extra rant.

Anybody find it ironic that the Liara cameo in ME2 is terrible that those that wish to break up can't, and those that wish to continue the romance are also prevented from doing so.

Well the Ash/Kaidan thing is not better either since they basicly walk away before Shepard gets to say anything about the relationship

Pretty sure you can go back to the Citadel and talk about Ashley or Kaidan with Anderson, can't you?

There are so few characters that actually mention Liara in ME2.

Yes, you can go back to Anderson and acusing him for setting you up. But what I thought was that I would get an email, telling me to meet them again to discuss collectors (and if they were your LI have a hearth to hearth talk)

Yeah, that makes sense.

One aspect of the Liara reunion that I thought was especially bad was the lack of interaction between Liara and Miranda. You could also complain about Garrus and Tali, but we're never actually shown any development of a relationship between Liara and either one of those two, elevator conversations aside. But it's especially egregious with Miranda.

We're actually shown at the end of Redemption that Liara and Miranda now have a mutual respect and appreciation for each other, and Miranda even puts her hand on Liara's shoulder to comfort and reassure her. This should also have been included in ME2 somehow!!

She talks about Liara!

Fuuuuuuuu!  I can't read it here at school.  This is a college and they block websites.  Image IPB
Anyone want to give me the rundown of what she says about Liara?

I'll admit I exaggerated a little when I said she "talks about Liara". But she's at least mentioned, ryn!

Here it is:

Is that something that you're lobbying for? Do you think they'd bring you on to reprise your role as Dr. Liara T'Soni?

Jillian Murray:
Well, the face and the body is mine. I don't know who could look more
like me than me, so it's a very obvious answer. It's a little ways away
because they don't even have a script locked down and they're not
attaching anyone. It's going to happen, but it's more of a matter of
getting the script right. It's hard because it's an RPG game and if you choose your own path, how are you going to make a movie? Will everyone choose their own path in the movie?

I always thought that the ME1 squadmates were either good friends or atleast respected each other as collegues. I felt atleast that Tali and Liara were friends with eachother (another reason I find her flirting with me jarring). Or maybe I'm just imagining things.

Well yes you could get the impression from the elevator conversations that the ME1 squad had some sort of relationship with each other be it friendship or just some respect, while the ME2 squad for the most part doesnt seem to care about each other I would say the most interaction they have is between Jacob and Miranda

Its really strange that Garrus and Tali dont bring up any relationship Shepard had in the past, though also in ME2 when it comes to romances Shepard is pretty much taking the offensive here so I dont know if that factors into it

I got the whole Liara/Tali friendship thing, too. Some of their elevator conversations implied some closeness.

I'd assume both Tali and Garrus would be aware of my Shepard's relationship with Liara. Why Garrus still insisted on bragging about his 'reach', I do not know.

Oh, and SQUEEEE!!!!!  For the Jillian Murray interview!
