I always imagined that the reapers original idea was to get Shepard's body so they could get a new "Saren" so to speak, an deep-cover agent. It could also serve as a moral blow to organics to wacht their champion be reduced to a reaper puppet. Thereby showing what fate awaits them if they resist.

I thought it interesting that after Sheard's encounter with the beacon on Eden Prime that every Asari who got into Shepard's became preoccupied with Shepard.

Regardless of any subjective opinion, the SB was working with the Collectors, agents of the Reapers. Doesn't matter if you think X doesn't make sense because of Y, it's still a hnt that's there if it's ever revealed that the SB is a pawn of the Reapers, which I believe was the original point of contention.

I always thought that it was more to do with Shepard's strenght of will that made them stunned. We have a theory here that asari are attracted to a individual's personality.

Or maybe I misunderstood what you said! ^_^

The mind melding? Huh, never thought of that, that is interesting.

Well, to be fair, there were only two asari that melded with Shepard to help with information: Liara and Shiala. Two asari isn't much to base things on; Liara is a potential love interest story-wise, so she's supposed to be intrigued by Shepard. Shiala is a bit more interesting. I suppose she could just be touched by the mercy you showed her by letting her live to make amends. Unless the Protheans had their own indoctrination that got transferred, it could just be that Shepard's mind is unique because of the whole Prothean beacon thing, and the two asari that have touched Shepard's mind thought "hey, this is pretty cool."

Or Shepard suffers from BioWare Hero syndrome, where every main character has some unusual ability to influence everyone around them (see also: Revan, the Exile :P).

Yes greed does have a side effect of vulnerability as does a lust for power so I can agree that the SB is a pawn. Why the Reapers want Shepard and how that advances their goal of gettiing out of dark space is what I'm wondering about. See I think Liara may be in a position to provide some answers to that question

Liara may find some answers in the Shadow Broker's data when he's inevitably and eventually neutralised.

At least, that's what I think!

Because if she can meld with Shepard  given what she knows or can know about the fate of the Protheans, genitic manipulation, the Reapers etc she might just see it

I think BW is going to pull a fast one and put the SB on the side of the alliance, make it so this crazy vendetta is negated by yet another plot hole.  I also think that there may be some serious connection between the Collectors and the Alliance...

Mordin: Implications, disturbing.

Oh wait, I've got it. The Alliance was in league with the Reapers all along, and Udina-Reaper is the final boss in ME3! And the Council was in on it too, that's why they constantly denied their existence! To throw Shepard off the trail!

/sarcasm. I would very likely kill someone if that happened.

So and now on topic,it is correct the SB was hired to get Shepards body back so far so good

Building upon a theory must have an origin. It really isn't enough to say the SB was hired to get Shepard's body when there is no particular reason given other than TIM saying that Shepard killed a reaper. We do know that the Collectors engage in genitic experiments so this begs the question about what it is about Shepard's genitic makeup that makes Shepard so important to the Collectors and ultimately to the Reapers. That's where the theory should begin. Does Shepard's DNA hold some key to get the Reapers out of Dark Space ? Did Shepard's encounter with Prothean beacons somehow alter Shepard's genitics ? The Thorian ? The encounter with Soverign ? Something plausable in this regard would speak to why TIM wanted Shepard restored to original form and having the answer to that would help explain Liara's guilt. I think the SB was only after money but TIM's motives seem much more ambitious.

I think that's right. Like Saren, it's someone people would trust; a hero. The collectors would have the technology to bring him back and indoctrinate him.

But that begs the question: if they wanted his body so bad, why oh why didn't they just board the normandy instead of blow it to pieces?

I don't think Bioware would get away with just writing off the SB. When you think about it, he's the most powerful entity in the galaxy (reapers notwithstanding). He has secrets that can undo any race, any alliance, any regime. You're going to find the Shadow Broker, because he has information on a weapon that can be used against the reapers, or something like that. Either way, they've mentioned him too much to not let him in.

Or they could tie it up in a novel. ME3 is a long ways away.

You don't know Bioware/EA very well... thats right up their alley....
EDIT: And don't forget that data Kasumi has that involves the Reapers which would ruin the Alliance...

Oh and, I love Liara! BW you ruined her character!

The cinematic showed plans for the standard Reaper, and it was clearly said that if the data were to fall into the wrong hands, the Alliance would be screwed. Shepard is given the decision to either destroy the data or let Kasumi keep it.

how about we talk more about Liara and less about simple infighting amongst Liara fans... Just a thought :P
-everyone is entitled to his/her ideas, none are wrong nor right in theory. I don't understand why people must argue with bricks to make "their" point.

Why do people argue? It's quite simple really. People argue when you leave a subject so vague and full of holes. Everyone has a slightly different thought process so eveyone tends to fill all the holes and blanks with what they imagine and then convince themselves that its the only logical way. When different people with differing opinions start to discuss them with each other, it usually ends up in arguements when the dirrent people are so convinced their version is "the" correct one, and can't get past themselves. This has happened here, and in every other character support thread.  One would have to be nieve to think it will ever not be this way.

OH and, I love Liara! BW, you ruined her character!

haha i know why ppl do I was simply saying its a waste of breath to do so atm. :P

edit: plus that had double meaning, my first comment, but you didn't catch that from what you just said. xD

Guess that means Ashley/Kaiden are in for a big surprise and likely a promotion.  Wonder what the Alliance gains from being in bed with the Collectors unless somebody's indoctrinated ?
No it wouldn't surprise me at all.
