If you think about it, Tali and Garrus didn't make the cover for ME2 and weren't featured heavily in marketing (Miranda and Thane were), even though they were (and still are) pretty popular.

Tali and Garrus = old characters, not so shiney & new. You are correct in that what ever new and shiney characters they come up with will be featured with Sheploo on the cover...

theres nothing ever said anywhere, nor is there any scene where an Asari is laying in a pool of her own blood... so guess away, anything could be a 50/50 guess.

Well, they bleed purple when you shoot them in ME2. Its also heavily hinted at being purple during Garrus' personal mission in ME1.

EDIT: In Garrus' personal mission they use the term "violet". If you want to be technical.

Well lets face it, Mass Effect is more aimed towards the Gears/Resident Evil 4 crowd, thus the marketing is aimed more towards boys. Plus, you don't want to market a character as two different characters. It would be confusing seeing a guy and a girl being called Shepard. Also, people might wonder why person A is in the game, but person B isn't. Which is why Ash and Kaidan were hardly shown in the marketing of ME2.

Pretty sure that Liara will be a squaddie again in ME3. She's got the absolute best chance of all former squaddies, IMO. As she's guaranteed to be alive too, logic dictates that she'll receive a large amount of development time, attention, care and resources dedicated to her.

And aside from new characters. She's the only one who can make it to front cover for ME3! Unless of course Bioware wants to dictate a canon (which they won't)!

Based on Hudson's comments I can 99.9999% guarentee you there will be new LIs.  It has to be a stand alone game that newcomers will be able to enjoy just as much as the people who have invested 60 hours into their characters. <_<

Hence there has to be an oppurtunity for new romance.

Cover for ME3 probably won´t include ME2 crew with being possibly death in some playthroughs and default ME1 points to minimum squad survivors for default ME3, which makes sense also from a marketing point. Sheploo + intended big supporting character + random character probably (Garrus and Thane weren´t really that much in the game if one didn´t want them around).

That is actuely quite an awesome idea. The only other game I can remember doing that was RA3 with soviet/allies.
