There can't be that many Asari in comparison to the other races yes?

They live for a thousand years, so their birthrates must be much lower than the other sapient species to compensate.

Would that idea seem accurate?

Suffers from the guilt of handing over Shepard's corpse to Cerberus, because she wanted to see Shepard revived. Now lives in constant fear of her life. Now works in a profession she now hates.

I ws thinking about this...I'm still not sure her original intention was solely to see Shepard revived.  She was manipulated a bit by Cerberus, TIM, and Miranda (remember, she thinks they are going to give Shepard a burial).  She didn't really fight their decision to try to revive Shepard, though, and you could say her silence on the matter is the same as consensus.

That would be my guess.  Even though they live for many centuries, I don't think individual asari procreate at the rate of most humans.  Benezia had one child (that we know of) her entire life, Samara had three (though she might have had more if it wasn't discovered that her offspring become Ardat Yaksi).

I agree. When Liara originally set out on her quest after being tasked with doing so by TIM, it wasn't with the intention of reviving Shepard. However, when she returns to the Cerberus base and hears of their true intentions with the body, that's when she hears of the resurrection plan and agrees to it, and starts hating herself.

She says as much in the game. She only says "Because I couldn't let you go" when she's talking about when she gave Shepard to Cerberus, and that she originally handed the corpse over "because they said they could rebuild you."

Alright I've got another question.

One you guys have probably talked to death.

How do you see Liara's involvement in ME3 playing out?

Please be detailed.

Also if we were to equate her age to a human life span how old would she be?

I'm thinking around 17-19.

I hope she is one of the squad mates you recruit first.  I want her DLC to resolve the Shadow Broker issue, at least enough so she can joing the Normandy crew shortly after the beginning of ME3.  The Shadow Broker may not be defeated of killed in the DLC, saving this for ME3.

I'm also hoping the SB has some useful data to be used during the final Reaper battle.  This will give some credence to Liara's obsession with the SB, in my mind.

Hmmm that makes sense.
and it would be a good way for Bioware to make up for ME2.

To be honest, I think her ME3 role will be that she discovers some information in the Shadow Broker's data that details a Reaper weakness, or a method of exploiting that weakness. Alot of characters seem to have their future roles in ME3 set up now, alot of them preventing squadmate status, but that doesn't seem to be the case with Ashley, Kaidan and Liara. They have their ME3 story roles, but they will still be squaddies.

I really want her back now.

Pardon me, I'm still a bit dazed from my ME playthrough. How did I miss Liara's awesomeness the first half dozen times I played the game?

S'alright, we forgive you. Image IPB

I think it's because you've now taken the time to explore Liara's more nuanced and intricate personality and characterisation, and are really starting to appreciate just how awesome she is.

I think you guys will have to put up with me for while yet. I should warn you, I'm idiosyncratic. I don't ship Liara/Shepard and express my love of characters by emotionally torturing them, both in fic and when I come up with speculations.

May be old news, but I just read this.

BioWare has confirmed that no more new squad mates will be introduced to Mass Effect 2 in any future DLC, making Kasumi -- introduced in the last DLC bearing her name -- the final Mass Effect 2 squad mate.

from this site. A similar statement can be found on this site

That's OK, I often do the same.

Yeah, I don't expect Liara to join up after her DLC...it will only clear her up so she can (hopefully) join the party in ME3.

She'll have to 'tie up loose ends' in the interim.

Yeah, I remember reading that before. I think that's definitely it for permanent squaddies, but doesn't preclude Liara possibly being a temporary squadmate in her DLC.

Thats fine, I like drama and angst. It hurts to see Liara being put through the emotional wringer, but it helps build character!

Liara having to "tie up loose ends" at the end of her DLC works best, IMO.

Resolves her character arc that prevented her from joining the Normandy in ME2, but also leaves room for a recruitment mission in ME3.

I just finished a pure Paragon runthrough of ME. I also romanced Liara for the first time in several years. Some impressions.

  • Liara's romance was a mixed bag. On the one hand, the constant fainting continues to be annoying. Some of the dialogue is painful. All that talk of being swept up in storms is downright painful. It also suffers from being too short, just like every romance in this series.
  • On the other hand, the love scene is fantastic. I'd forgotten just how emotionally strong ME Liara could be. She's not looking for comfort and is clear-eyed enough to know the war might already be lost. She wants to spend what may be her last few hours with the man she loves. What she doesn't want is to be told everything will be okay when it may not be.
  • My heart actually broke for her on Ilos. She keeps talking about wanting to come back and is thoroughly in her element despite the dire situation and full of compassion for the Protheans. And yet, she's doomed to be devoured by her rage. I'm not even sure she would care that the Collectors are Protheans, she's so determined to get her vengence.
  • Benezia's dialogue actually flows better if Liara is not present. Odd.
I'm still planning to "cheat" with Tali but it will be with considerable regret.

I somewhat agree. A lot of the dialogue is painful to listen because of the monotone way Liara delivers her lines. Which is why I joke around with her, and get lines like "But Saren trying to kills us doesn't sound romantic." In which I reply, "But it's fun" to torment her. I then get more serious with her, because the relationship starts to get a little more serious, though I still joke around. Example, she tells me the bond is going to be awesome, in which I reply "Sounds weird." lol. Oh, old times.^_^

Yeah, I really don't like the scenes with her mother, because it just feels more odd that Liara isn't reacting to killing her. It's better if she wasn't there, and had to except it.

I thought that the Asari were the most populuous ME species.  Even though they have such long lifespans, they are the most widely spread-out of all the species, giving them a great number of places to live, planets that belong to the Asari, and planets that belong to the allies of the Asari, on which they live.

I'd like to know how many Asari live on Earth.   I live in NYC, so I think it would be quite a sight to walk in Central Park during the summer, seeing Asari strolling around, their skin matching the colors of the flowers and the leaves on the trees (and the grass, in Shiala's case).

Liara does react to Benezia's death, though. You get her pleading with Benezia to fight indoctrination, and then that heartbreaking anguished cry just as Benezia is dying. I know Liara doesn't react immediately afterwards, but I think that's a developer oversight.

Quick Question I've been trying to figure out a "theme song" for each character. (life Daisy bell for Joker, I am Iron Man for Legion) What song do you think fits Liara?

I pick "Save Me" from the Magnolia soundtrack, when I think of Liara (and when I read Redemption).

Well, I'm not saying she's not sad after seeing her mother die in front of her. I'm just saying, performance wise, it's better if I left her on the ship. Then ask if she's alright, in which she tells me I did the right thing, even though deep down she wishes she could have been there to do something about it. Where as the other way around (where she helps kill her mom), she doesn't cry, nor ask for comfort, and is more concerned about telling me the bond is going to be good. I prefer the other way.
