Maybe, but I like the drama of Liara tagging along to confront her mother herself, and to try to talk her down. That's what Liara wishes, and she truly believes that she will be able to help Benezia out. I know it means that Liara then has to help kill her mother, but Shepard and Liara don't know that at the time and I don't really like meta gaming.
