I think they've designed it, and their intention is that Liara's "I couldn't let you go" dialogue path is deliberately ambiguous, so that it can be applied to both romance and non-romanced Shepards. When Liara isn't your LI, it reveals that Liara still has strong feelings for Shepard regardless of reciprocation, and if Liara is your LI then it's a reaffirmation of the romance.

It's incredibly lazy, but that's what I think their intention is. It can be applied to both romance and non-romance Shepards.

I still would prefer it if non-Liara romanced Shepards did not get that line, however. I think it would make it much more special to us Liaralovers.

Me too. I suppose they're trying to set it up so that Liara will be available to new Shepards in ME3, and that Shepard will finally reciprocate the romance there, as well as those of us that began the romance all the way back in ME1.

It's kind of like how you can say Ashley and Kaidan are special to Shepard whilst speaking to Kelly. It gives the ability to romance them in ME3.

It doesn't really surprise me with EA calling the shots now. As long as BioWare is still allowed to produce anything at least somewhat resembling an RPG, it's probably not possible to do within one year, but I can imagine their target is two years. Have to cut corners even for that though, as evident already in ME 2. So, expectations = zero.

I still kind of hope they will focus on story and RPG elements and not touch the combat much.  If they do this, ME3 may turn out a lot better than ME2, at least for me.

I think there's a good chance that they're satisifed with the combat and game engine now, and perhaps they will now dedicate development time and resources on the characters and story for ME3.

This isn't the best screen shot , it was just me testing Fraps

....I Call her Katana Shepard ^_^  and she's a Solider. But a Paragon   ^_^  heh .
