Yes, because of the pairing. If it's not Shepard, there doesn't seem to be much if audience. Since this story will probably take a month to write, I prefer to just get it done first so I don't get depressed and give up. I might post occasional word counts just to remind people I'm still alive.

Liara moving on. Shep would be barely present, really. S/he's in a coma for most of it. Haven't even decided on gender, which should tell you something.

You could go the 'vague gender' Redemption route

I wouldn't mind reviewing it for you, either.  I think the Miranda/Liara pairing is something I haven't seen before in the ME slashdom.

jib, this is going to sound bizarre but I'm so relieved to hear the word slash used on the forum. I've learned to limit my use of fandom terminology here to limit confusion. I haven't seen Miranda/Liara either, but I've seen very little slash or femslash that isn't Shep/Liara except for the odd Miranda/Jack. I'm definitely used to fandoms with a wider variety or pairings and the focus on the canonical ones seems downright strange after Harry Potter.

I like non-canonical pairings, though I personally tend to prefer femslash.  Most of what I have read from Harry Potter in non-canonical, as I think the canon pairings suck (I see you have Harry/Luna which I like alot!)  I'm not sure why there isn't much of it in ME. People just love Shepard, I guess.

Liara is a great representation of the emotion arc of the Mass Effect series.



Mass Effect 1 had a definite sense of the wide-eyed desire for exploration, a youthfulness and air of naivety that is somewhat curtailed by the end. To me, Liara seems to mirror this.



Mass Effect 2's emotional atmosphere was a harsher one. Where you have to swim with the sharks or be eaten by them, without any real backup. You have to question who you really are. Again, to me, Liara mirrors this. Not as well, but that's not my point.



This is a big reason why I feel that Bioware has big plans for Liara.

Ash/Liara? I ran across a multichapter story that look really good, but I haven't had time to read it. I agree with you on HP canon, suffice to say. I do think ME fandom is fixated on Shepard, partly because it's canon and partly because s/he is the player avatar.

Yeah, good point.  The players create Shepard's character, so are more comfortable writing their character.  I've started to write my own Shepard/Liara in story form, as I've thought of this pairing the most.  I wouldn't be opposed to doing non-Shepard pairings some time down the road. 

This is the Ash/Liara fic I like.  It's mainly Ash focused, but the romance in the story is the Ash/Liara one (it takes awhile to develop).

The ME fandom is indeed too fixated on Shepard, but I am seeing a marked increase in the amount of non-Shepard pairings. I've seen Liara shipped with Ashley, Kaidan and Miranda. Other characters are also being shipped with characters that are not Shepard. This is a good thing, IMO.

I have had a desire to ship and write Liara/Tali for some reason.

I'm writing an FF that has my own little Asari in it So it's not all about Shep Shep will cameo in it, along with a lot of other characters from the game (LIARA!)
