True, but Liara then again expresses mistrust when the pair of them are taking cover and hiding, watching the Shadow Broker's goons hand Shepard's corpse over to that Collector. The emnity is still there. Plus, I don't actually believe that one panel can actually constitute any friendship chemistry. It just seems to be an attempt to illustrate Liara's compassion, and to encourage Feron to see the job through and assist her in recovering Shepard's corpse, as they're so close.
No, I used that example to show how poorly scripted it was, and how the end felt rushed. My point was that I believe they did try to show friendship, but just didn't do a very good job of it. Goes back to the 'poorly scripted' claim you have made in the past.
Regarding what Liara says in ME2, think back to how Anderson speaks of the events of Ascension in ME1. Suitably vague, and not really elaborating on the story told in the novel. That's what is at work here, IMO. Liara uses the term "friend" out of convenience, and to leave references to the story as vague as possible. That's why they had Liara use the term "friend". To be as vague as possible.
Perhaps it depends on how you define 'friend'....how are you defining it?
