I happen to believe that many people did remain faithful to Liara, however. It's something I perceive from gauging people's opinions across the internet, and how Liara maintains such a large and passionate fanbase.

It's just something I've noticed amongst the gaming public, casual, hardcore or otherwise.

Maybe it's because im a pessimist but I believe the avarage ME gamer don't post about on forums and such, and because of that what we see here is the most hardcore and loyal Liara fans. The average ME fan proberly played ME2, saw that Liara have turned into a crazy biacht and just went with Tali instead.

I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it.

Does anyone remember this interview?

It came out not too long ago.  If you don't feel like watching the whole thing at about the 2:54 mark Chud talks about future story driven dlc's.  Also at the beginning he says, "We have a real commitment to ongoing dlc.  Not just weapons and armor."

I think you're right, Les.  Despite everything Chud has done to her, Liara still has a large fanbase online.

I agree with Lizard on this one...the average Liara ME1 romancer hopped on the Tali/Miranda/Jack train in ME2.

That's to be expected. The average, Joe Public gamer doesn't really care about the characters, and doesn't invest themselves in them as much as alot of us or the wider internet public does.

These people just happen to love whatever flavour of the month characters are thrown at them. Are you willing to bet that there will suddenly be alot of Liara fans again when she's a squadmate again in ME3? That's what you should be prepared for. An influx of fairweather Liara fans. What I'm trying to say is, I doubt BW is going to take much stock into what these players say or think, b/c they're not the ones who invest themselves in the characters and appreciate them to the extent that BW hopes.

I agree as well. For the average gamer, romance is something to do and they are not passionately devoted to any one option. They'll choose they're favorite option in each game and that will be that.

Hello guys.

Judging from what I read from the discussion so far, I'd have to agree: basing character inclusion/exclusion on pure statistics would not be a smart move (then again, I think and hope BW has picked up on that fact prior).

After all, there would be too many factors to take into account (ie: old ME 2 saves going "missing" *)

* Note: Ok Ok, I cheated in ME 2, but, being the moral type (and perhaps a bit aghast), I immediatly deleted the associated save  and prayed that my Insanity playthrough would override any decisions made in any prior playthrough.

I suppose, LET, as my Shepard's a soldier. he (ie: I) can tend to be a bit of a "Liara martyr".

Wait - is that normal? Image IPB

Do you mean to use that word to insult, there?  I'm looking forward to seeing Liara in ME3, but I like Jack, too, because I find her character to be equally compelling.

Exactly. Which is why BW will see that a significant amount of players remained loyal to Liara, despite not being that much of a % of the overall ME2 playerbase, and realise just how well loved she is b/c she maintains such a large and passionate following amongst players who actually invest themselves in the characters.

you have a point about the "flavour of the month" thing. But when ME3 is being devolped, Bioware might just look at those stats and go "Hey look! Miri/Jack/Tali is far popular than Ash/Liara, sounds like we should bring back the ME2 cast!" Granted ME2 cast can die, but still.

Absolutely. And that's of course the kind of audience a publisher likes best. But the same people will just as easily move on to the next "coolest characters ever", it will be interesting so see where that leaves the ME 2 companions and LIs in ME 3.

If we are lucky. Then Bioware's next "coolest character" will be Liara, since she will be in everyone's game.

No, it's just a statement about the average ME gamer that isn't all that into it and doesn't frequent these boards.  The statement had nothing to do with Tali/Miranda/Jack or those fans who like them.

I hope people will be careful when wording wording their sentences, so that that they don't make it seem as if the ME2 romances are inferior, or that the sole reason players opted for them is because these players in question are, in some way, lesser for it.

According to what I understood BW is developing their game based pretty much on their 'data mine stats' so it would seem if enough of us chose to remain faithful to Liara that it would influence how and what they would proceed with in ME3 or I suppose DLC. BTW CHud does acknowledge in the interview that ' people loved Liara'

That "people loved Liara" line drove me to drink yesterday.

People loved her..... so they decided to take her out of the squad, make her romance virtually non-existent, drastically change her personality, and hide the reason for those changes behind a one-shot choice on the dialogue wheel.  This is how Bioware rewards fans for falling in love with their characters?

Her "drastically changed personality" was just a sham, though. You could break through to her soft side with that one-shot choice and to me it really sounded like she cared about Shepard. There were some self-reflective moments from her as well (that "For better or for worse" line springs to mind.)

That said, I'm still disappointed in her Cameo in ME2. It could have been so much better if they didn't scrap the Shadow Broker stuff.

Yes, but they'll also see that Liara remains a hugely popular character amongst the smaller, more devoted and passionate playerbase. That would be a truer representative of what gamers think of Liara, as they are the ones that are more invested in the characters. BW should take note of that.

Honestly, I'd be more worried if every single person out there who doesn't post in this thread now hates Liara. As that is not the case, I think we'll be fine.

No one here believes this about fans of ME2 characters that post here...we are talking about casual ME gamers that pick up the game once or twice and don't care much about the characters.  There are more of those gamers, so they will affect statistics more than the fans that frequent these boards often.

I think when we say "average fan". We talk about the person who brought ME1, played through it once or twice. Then put it on the shelf and moved on to the next game. Then picked up ME2 when it was released, because the first one was good.

"EDIT" Got ninja'd

Personally, I hope there's a way to make everyone happy. I like Liara. I also like Miranda, Samara, and Thane. It's not a matter of "flavor of the month." Wonder how grouch I'll be when ME3 comes around?

Of course, and I don't think that about you or york or whoever. I mean the casual gaming public that only played through ME1 once or twice before moving on.

We may be their biggest fans. But the avarge gamer is still a bigger source of money (I think).

Yes, there is more of them.  This online community is a pretty small chunk of the overall fanbase.

I guess it's ironic that I didn't proofread the statement where I talk about people being careful about wording their sentences.
