We may be their biggest fans. But the avarge gamer is still a bigger source of money (I think).

But it still shows that Liara remains popular amongst those who appreciate the characters and storyline.

I get what you're saying about Joe Public being far more numerous, but I don't think BW will take much stock into what they say. They'd prefer to listen to those who are attached to the characters, and will not move on ASAP.

I hope people will be careful when wording wording their sentences, so that that they don't make it seem as if the ME2 romances are inferior, or that the sole reason players opted for them is because these players in question are, in some way, lesser for it.

I actually do think the ME 2 romances are inferior, mostly because they aren't as well written, have no connection to the main story, and don't feel all that, well, "romantic". If anyone thinks that's an insult to them or their favourite character, that's their problem. It's not the intention of my statement. It's merely an observation, and if anything a criticism against BioWare/EA.

I happen to believe that many people did remain faithful to Liara, however. It's something I perceive from gauging people's opinions across the internet, and how Liara maintains such a large and passionate fanbase.

It's just something I've noticed amongst the gaming public, casual, hardcore or otherwise.

I'm pretty sure that anyone who played through ME1 with Liara as an LI will have at least one ME2 playthrough being faithful. I'm relatively sure those stats are there and considering them would assure Liara's return at some point in an LI role. I'm not worried about that at all, my concerns are more about just how they'll display it and whether or not they have the courage to follow through with what they began in ME1. The love scene there was epic but they followed up in ME2 with, well to be kind, glitz

If Bioware ever starts thinking in the way of "This was supposed to be a trilogy, so let's return as many squadmates possible!" they might see that the ME2 cast is more popular.

There are a few counter arguments you could make.

A: The entire ME2 cast can die, and as Wrex shows. Bioware don't like to work on something some people (even if it's a minority) might not even see.
B: Even if they pulled a "We'll bring the 5 most popular squadmates back" Liara still have a decent shot.
C: Should Bioware decide to create a new "cool squad". Liara will be perfect because she is alive in every persons playthrough, and she can create the illusion of continuation.

We make the assumption that Liara will probably be available for romance to both new players and those of us who have remained loyal to her since ME1, but realistically how likely is that to actually happen?

Personally, I hope there's a way to make everyone happy. I like Liara. I also like Miranda, Samara, and Thane. It's not a matter of "flavor of the month." Wonder how grouchy I'll be when ME3 comes around?

Of course, and I don't think that about you or york or whoever. I mean the casual gaming public that only played through ME1 once or twice before moving on.

Sorry. I've just heard enough "the only reason anyone would ever cheat is the crappy cameos because the ME2 characters are manifestly inferior" that I'm a bit touchy.  Fortunately/unfortunately, I lost all my saves and am having to replay ME from scratch. I'm choosing to go wiithout romance on one playthrough (I always romanced someone before, if only because there was no good reason not to) because I want to be "faithful" to Miranda. The upside is that I'm picking up new nuances that I missed. Like Liara's entire character, apparently.

I don't think that new players would be able to romance her. Romancing her only in ME3 would put the romance into a different context. Which would effectively be creating two romance subplots.

Maybe, but I'm hoping that they'll realise that alot of this "popularity" comes from players who only casually enjoy the series and it's characters, and who will move on to whichever flavour of the month character that is handed to then on a plate next.

I think that will turn out to be the case.

I'll think if Liara returns as a squadmate, then it's pretty high. AFAIK, those who play a new game in ME2 can show intrest in the Vimire survivor. So I'll think those who start at ME3 will be able to romance Liara.

I still hope we will get a reward for being faithfull.

And if they do make a new cast. Then Liara will be a perfect addition. She will be alive in everyone's playthrough. For mass effect veterans, she will provide a sense of continuation in the series

Funny I'm no longer debating against you.

No worries, jtav! You don't have to apologise.

It sucks that you lost all your saves, but I'm glad that you've really come to appreciate Liara's character in the process.

The fact that Liara says that she could not let Shepard go to all players IMO is a indication that she will be an LI.

That's because great minds think alike.:P:P

I agree. Liara is by far the easiest existing squaddie to implement in ME3.

The only problem they could have is the outroar there will be on the forums. But since they pretty much shrugged it off when it happend in ME1 they might do the same again. Oh god how sadisticly fun it must be to troll the forums when it happens! muahahahahhahahahahahahahaha

No no no bad Lizard! Must not laugh at griefing fans. You went through the same!

Huh, two very differing opinions here.

Collider thinks that BW will not be prepared to create two differing romance paths, whereas Wolf thinks that will be the case.

Of course, an easy way out of this would be to just create one uniform romance path that can be applied to both faithful and new players alike.

That is the most likely scenario. If you stayed loyal then you might just get a difrent line or 2! :(

Bad Lizard!

I'd never do that as I hate schachfreunde, and I never want the ME2 LI fans to suffer through what we did.

Well, I didn't mean that they can't be prepared. I just don't think they'll want to. Like I said, it would essentially be two romance paths for the same character. Jack's romance was more of a choice between a path and a deadend. Why create another romance path when the character already has one? Having only romance path per character may also encourage people who have not already done so, to buy ME1 (or ME2 for the ME2 love interests).

They could have one uniform path for new players and returning players...they could do that. But there would still be differences.

I hope not, but I worry this will happen.  I'd rather they then not make the romance available to new players so they can focus on continuing the romance for those that have carried it over since ME1.

Noit unless Liara gives the faithful the "too much time has passed, so let's start over slowly speech."  I fully expect to have to re-romance Liara in ME3.
