I really wish Liara would personalise her office, though. Put some Prothean stuff in there, some asari art, anything.
She doesn't probably because she doesn't want to get comfortorable. Being an information broker is not how she plans on spending the rest of her life. It isn't who she wants to be, so she doesn't try to pretend.
And to others, it puts up an air of professionalism that I'm sure helps when dealing with clients who doubt her capabilites because of her age and relative inexperience at the job.
Those are good points, but there's a delicate balance to be struck between having a completely sterile, undecorated office, and having a place that looks like a dorm room decorations sale ravaged by a tornado.

Painted and tormented, or developer laziness? Look at all of the paintings we can see in Kasumi's quarters, and at Donovan Hock's place. Did the textures for the paintings exist before the DLC? Either way, I find it hard to believe that in the span of two years, and despite her pain, she couldn't spend just a little money and a little time to personalize the place. So, I'm not pinning it on her character.
I know it's obviously developer oversight from a meta perspective, but I'm just trying to speculate as to why Liara's office is so barren and sterile from an in-universe perspective. Kinda like the whole debate surrounding Liara's eyebrows.

Any ideas on what Liara's apartment on Illium looks like?
I think that Liara's apartment may actually be pretty vare and not very personalised at all, as I believe she doesn't use it that much and is only really resident there when she gets a few hours sleep a night. Liara probably spends the vast majority of her waking hours at her office, trying desperately to hunt down the Shadow Broker. She probably doesn't get much sleep either, and takes stimulants to keep herself awake and alert. That would explain why her pupils are dilated in ME2, and why she looks so stressed and haggard.
So yeah, I think Liara's apartment is probably a little bland, sterile and barren.
Yeah, the idea of her using and possibly being addicted to medical drugs, whether they are sleeping pills, or stimulants, pain killers, or whatever, did cross my mind.
As for her apartment, I imagine it like you say, but I also imagine it being very unkept. Un-washed dishes in the sink, paperwork all over, etc. I'd imagine she'd feel embarrassed if she was forced to bring Shepard there.

Good points. I do think Liara would want to personalise it to some degree, though. I can't see her realistically continuing to work in such a soulless and sterile environment.
Also, whilst Liara may dislike the threatening and strongarming of her clients, I do think she enjoys other aspects of her job. For example, the gathering and handling of information, and forming conclusions using said information as evidence using complex deductions. I get that she wants to leave her position of being an information broker as soon as the Shadow Broker is taken care of, but she may one dat wish to return to the field in a somewhat more benevolent and Paragon role.

I wonder how much flack Liara had to take growing up for being "pureblood".
I bet she went through a lot of that.
Alot, I'd imagine. As we can see from the asari's disdainful comments about purebloods on Illium, they're are looked down upon in an incredibly condescending and hateful manner. Liara perhaps would have felt somewhat ostracised from her peers, and would have experience exclusion from normal social activities. I imagine she was also bullied at school as a child, and would have struggled to make friends.
Both Liara and Benezia would have also experienced a far more subtle disdain from adult asari who are prejudiced against purebloods too.

I would rather be by myself than face that kind of prejudice.

Maybe, but that's not the reason Liara isolated herself away on remote digsites. That was because she was pursuing her passion for the Protheans, and became an archaeologist. The solitude happened to be a lucky and happy coincidence.

But still I think that would add a little more depth to the story.
She's already a deep character but hey it's the little details that count!

Anything you want.........

Has this ever happened to you or someone you know?
Chances are they are suffering from Asari Mind Control or AMC.
It is a serious medical condition that can cause......*eyes glaze over* What ever you want.
An Asari comes on screen.
Please discount everything the human just said.

I can see where you're coming from, but I like to think that perhaps Liara is a little more confident and assertive than that, and her becoming an archaeologist because she doesn't want to meet people kinda goes against that.
I mean, look at how confident, calm, collected and tactful she is with Ashley during the romance confrontation scene. She's very much in control, and capable of dealing with other people when she has to.

I think that the Liara/Kaidan confrontation is handle much more maturely on all sides *Liara is equally grown up in both but Ashley throws a fit where as Kaidan accepts it*LesEnfantsTerribles wrote...
I hope it would have never come to that! I think Ashley and Liara eventually became great friends. I love it when Ash expresses concern for Liara's wellbeing after Benezia dies. It's awesome.

That's just Ashley's personality, though. She's very spunky, emotional and headstrong. It's one of the things I love about her. Liara always remains tactful and respectful towards her too. She calls her "Miss Williams". I like that.
Where he's all "I didn't know that you were into other women" and Liara is all "well technically my species only has 1 gender"
That made me laugh a little.

The concept of gender is completely alien to Liara, if you'll excuse the pun. Kaidan is projecting something onto Liara that has absolutely no meaning to her at all, and she's just highlighting that.
