Like I said, Harbinger says that they are enforcing salvation through destruction on organics.
Salvation. They believe they are saving us.
But killing us for the sake of it itsn't excatly salvation.
I still like my theory the best!

They seem to be more than that. They supposedly absorb the "essence" of the species. After the suicide mission, Legion basically says of how Reaper-building technology enables the humans to become more like gethjlb524 wrote...
My impression was that they need organics as a source of more Reapers...that's it. Thus, organic life is a type of food source for them.

Reproducing is different from eating. We don´t know how the AI is "born", though the T-fetus already seemed to have one. Sovereign and Harbinger¨s lines hint that they choose species with a series of requirments and "ascend" it to reaperhood, and genocide the unworthy ones so new species evolve.jlb524 wrote...

No. Since reapers are made from organic smelted into a single being so to speak. I think they see organics as "unpure". Bit difficult for me to explain since english is not my native language. But I'll try my best.
Look at the society in the ME universe (hell look at ours now).
War.
Famine.
diseases.
corruption.
The reapers proberly look at us and believe we need to "purified" to free us from the horros and evils we against each other. By turning a entire species into a single greater being.
I know it sounds crazy. But it's the best way I can put it.

Wonder if the asari where an artificial attempt at this. Their biology feels strange within the ME universe to be a naturally evolved species...

The Reapers believe they are saving us by harvesting us to save us from ourselves, to have us ascend to a higher plane of existence. Or so they believe.

Being one mind among millions inside a metal body isn't exactly my idea of paradise! But the reapers don't think it's so bad afterall. So maybe they are right?

Hmm...I don't think they are trying to make some deep statement...why would they care if we kill each other and act like a-holes?
It seems they just need organics for goo to make new Reapers/absorb an 'essence'/whatever...I think it will be as simple as that. Perhaps there is something greater than the Reapers out there that they are at war with, and they use organics to replenish their forces?

Gawd, don't give them ideas! It turns out this whole time that the asari have been agents of the Reapers, and that Liara has been their most powerful and influential organic agent this whole time.
The people who want her as a villain would be loving that.

NOT agents, but a more or less a controlled attempt at getting wahtever they seek to create a reaper from scratch. The DNA randomizing from the father parent kind of fits.LesEnfantsTerribles wrote...

I have actually heard that theory before. The Reapers are actually at war with a far greater threat to the galaxy, and are using organics to replenish their depleted forces. When they return to dark space, they are not actually hiberating or lying dormant, but are engaging in battle with this unknown force.
Would put an interesting spin on the "We are your salvation through destruction" line. The Reapers are actually protecting organics and the galaxy from this unknown, greater force.

So if we defeat the reapers. Then we are still screwed because the other force is still out there?

Organics may actually ally themselves with the Reapers to defeat this other force.

Using a Deus Ex Machina.
Honestly I don't know. Paragons will unite the difrent races. Renegade's will use reaper tech.

I would hate that.
"Oh snap! Turns out the bad guys are not bad guys, and you have to work for them! Cya later in ME4 lololololololololoollol."
Hopefully they won't add another "great threat" to the series. The reapers are good enough, let's not add more.

I don't think that the Reapers have anything to do with the Asari, but maybe the Protheans do.

I think that would be pretty hard to work into the game. If they found a way to pull it off, I think it would make an incredible plot twist. IMO.LesEnfantsTerribles wrote...

Easy enough: Not every game in the Mass Effect universe has to feature Commander Shepard. There'll be more games, but Shepard's official story will most certainly end with ME 3, for better or worse.
I for one figure EA already considers that not every game in the Mass Effect universe has to be an RPG either. How much easier would it be and how much more money could be made if one would just do away with all that legacy stuff and concentrate on the important things - a cool male action dude shooting lots of enemies in a game with shiny graphics? Throw in cool one-liners and a beautiful woman - but remember, to maximize profits, no content that could be unsuitable for the younger audience - and what could go wrong?

Also, how are the Reapers getting back and forth? Is there a system of Relays outside of our own galaxy? The closest galaxy to our own is ~2.1 million light years away. If they don't use Relays, what are they using that gets them to their enemies in any realistic amount of time that also lets them return to our galaxy to harvest life? If they do have something that lets them move that quickly, why the heck would they need the Relay at the Citadel? Also, why would the events of ME2 be of any consequence to the Reapers, if they can use whatever this means of transportation is to get to the Citadel nearly instantly?
I think it's a silly theory, personally.

I've only watched the anime so I don't see what you mean...Unless you mean the claymores in general? How they protect people against the monster thingies.
