I don't think that the Reapers have anything to do with the Asari, but maybe the Protheans do.

Asari as an artifical race(in the game,of course) make a lot sense. All of them are biotics and could mate with other races.Far to much coincidences.

They want to make more than 3 games. Hope they don´t go that way, but on the other side, how do they top the reapers as a threat?

Easy enough: Not every game in the Mass Effect universe has to feature Commander Shepard. There'll be more games, but Shepard's official story will most certainly end with ME 3, for better or worse.

I for one figure EA already considers that not every game in the Mass Effect universe has to be an RPG either. How much easier would it be and how much more money could be made if one would just do away with all that legacy stuff and concentrate on the important things - a cool male action dude shooting lots of enemies in a game with shiny graphics? Throw in cool one-liners and a beautiful woman - but remember, to maximize profits, no content that could be unsuitable for the younger audience - and what could go wrong?

It´s not so much changing the main character, though there is plenty to worry there (I.e. in Gothic 4 it looks the previous hero will be the bad guy, and better don´t think what they do in comics and movies...) as the scope of the story: Shepard saved the galaxy, top that.

Not so concerned about Paragon/Renegade endings, a couple centuries time skip can deal with that, or maybe the galaxy is in such a bad state at the end of ME3 it won´t matter the path (please don´t do that!)

Sounds like the Claymore manga...

I've only watched the anime so I don't see what you mean...Unless you mean the claymores in general? How they protect people against the monster thingies.

The anime ends well before that. In the manga the plot gets more complicated: they are testing the monsters (don´t know english name) for a war in another continent.

No need to. We've saved the world many times in games, and in the next one we do it again. So what?

Not going to happen, for the reason they want more games in the Mass Effect universe. What I rather fear is that they might force the "Shepard has to make the big sacrifice" ending on everyone. With all the obvious time constraints and lack of will to invest into the portrayal of different player choices, it could be very tempting: No different endings, no different epilogues, no canon issues. I would probably not buy the game for that reason alone, but of course most would.

But how many times have you saved the same world from the biggest threat ever? I fear something similar to the Star Wars EU: Sith again (after so many defeats they could at least change the order name for better troop morale) and heroes character derailment depending on the author. I don´t want to have Shepard or any squadie as supporting in other story, too much risk of making the new crew badass at their espense (I was quite worried with ME2 characters cause the teasers pointed this way).

I give the writers more credit than that, but maybe it won´t be their choice.

Its far more sensible for humans to be an artificial race, since the game pretentiously sets them up as the only "dynamic" race there is, and their "genetic variance" is only matched by their "individuality". The game makes them out so often to be superior to the other races, and I think its not only insulting, but dumb as well.

As for the asari, they dont at all seem like an artificial race. The game makes a point of stressing that asari dont "mate" with other species and gain anything from it. It doesnt add to the child in any way. All it merely does it randomise the genetic information the mother provides, with the game says amounts to absolutely nothing in terms of the asari gaining anything.

From what I hear, Harbinger is as dismissive toward asari as his is to any other race that one of your companions might be.

Humans variability is explained in the second novel: the other races have "averaged" after hitting space, and humanity it´s on its way (artificial? maybe ME is the future of BSG?).
The DNA asari/mate is unclear at best, but a race that mates  with anything and have traits attractive to the other main races of the galaxy is naturally evolved?

Imagine if the Reapers target a romanced Liara, considering the fact that she melded with Shepard and now has a part of her within her body. Consider the Reapers' fixation with Shepard, they may want to imprison Liara and see if they can use her to learn as much about their adversary as possible.

I know it'd never be implemented, but it's an interesting thought.

I wouldn't be surprised if the LIs you have get stuck in a stiuation like that.
Granted it would have to work if you didn't have a LI too.

That would just be imprisonment as a means to emotionally blackmail and manipulate Shepard, though. With Liara, it would be alot more sinister. They may attempt to extract or harvest information about Shepard from Liara's mind.

It's something that's incredibly bleak, dark and disturbing and I hope that they never do it, but it's just a thought I had.

All Sci-Fi  franchises always make humans the best, but unlike the the other franchises, at least Bioware goes into better detail and gives us a better explantation then saying humans where choosen! or my fav excuse, They are dominate!

Find them too fanservice, there melding is space magic and they are WAY to clitche, even the best Asari's could't save the race in my books.

I like the Asari. I like Liara best of them all. Hoping for the return of the missing ME1 LI. Maybe we will get lucky and get an expansion with Ash, Kaidan, and Liara. I miss my first crew.

I'm agreeing with you, Lizard!!

The Reapers believe they are saving us by harvesting us to save us from ourselves, to have us ascend to a higher plane of existence. Or so they believe.

Hmm...I don't think they are trying to make some deep statement...why would they care if we kill each other and act like a-holes?

It seems they just need organics for goo to make new Reapers/absorb an 'essence'/whatever...I think it will be as simple as that.  Perhaps there is something greater than the Reapers out there that they are at war with, and they use organics to replenish their forces?

I was watching Star Trek First Contact the other day and it occurred to me that there are some similarities with the Borg and the Reapers, Data and the Geth (at least superficially)... Hell...Shepard's display case of ship models in the Captin's Cabin even resembles Picard's in that movie... thought it was kind of interesting.

For anyone for post on this thread frequent, is there a consensus on who Liara's second parent is? I kinda want to know what the fans think without going through thousands of pages of posts.

Well there was never any official word on who the parent is. Some think it's the matriarch bartender (which out of all the crazy theories, makes the most sense to me, barely :P ), some think it's Aria, and I don't know what the other opinions are, I can't remember.

I am conflicted. I really want the SB to be her father, but I also want the SB to be the last living Prothean. I just want the SB to not be the twrling mustache villian.

Thanks! I wholeheartedly support the returns of Ashley and Kaidan, too. I hope there is an expansion or DLC centred around these three great characters.

Oh, and Aria is totally Liara's other parent. It's not even up for debate, people! :P
