I have my own head!canon for how the Samara thing played out for Freya Shepard.

I like to imagine Freya was very tempted by Samara, especially after first meeting Liara again. Seeing how upset Freya was by Liara's apparant change, Samara "played along" - allowing Shepard to indulge herself a little while she sorted herself out.

Of course it wasn't long before Freya realised she still loved Liara, and also realised that Samara had simply been "comforting" her by getting that close to her.

Obviously, nothing ever actually happens between Freya and Samara - Freya would have never been able to forgive herself if it had.

I´m not holding my breath LES, the consequences of cheating (or not) were supposed to be for ME3, not in the middle of 2 or in between games. Would make sense from a marketing position to increase DLC sales though...

But I admit that As soon I saw the romance option with Samara, I reloaded the autosave that happens everytime you enter a new deck. Made a save just before talking to Samara. Chose the romance path to see if it lead to anything. But since it doesn't, I always allow myself to enjoy what is undoubtly the best ME2 romance.

Also before you all burn me at the stakes for wanting to cheat on Liara: If the Samara-romance actuelly lead to cheating, I would simply reload the save I made, then continue to stay loyal to Liara. Then once I completed the game, I would play with my single-shep.

Im of a similar mind towards Samara in that if she actually had a legitimate romance, instead of a shoot down, I would have pursued it. With a different character, but Samara is one of my favourite characters (and one of the positives I take from ME2). Even though she wasnt given enough to really make me take to her (which is unfortunate) what was there would have been more than enough to interest me in exploring any kind of romance.

Cheating in ME2 however is something that Ive never even come close to contemplating. First and foremost because I only play a main Shepard, and that main Shepard is committed to Liara, not just for personal character preference, but because I think if Bioware can actually be bothered to finish it properly with her as a squaddie, a romance spanning the beginning act and end act of the trilogy is the best (just a shame they skipped the middle act to make it easy on themselves. Or to make it doable in ME3 perhaps, that depends on what ME3 actually presents Liara as).

They aren't going to handle something as important to people as romance in optional DLC.  The DLC will be focused on the story and will set up what needs to be set up in ME3.  The Liara romance will still be on hold until ME3, though.

Acknowledgement is not out of the question, however.

They can still feature it, just as long as they don't really progress it. Plus, is it not more likely that it will be featured if the Liara DLC is a substantial expansion pack?

I reckon they will acknowledge it. Perhaps not with dialogue, but either with some sort of alternate animation (like the hug vs. kiss) or an E-mail after the mission that mentions it.

Why? Because they've seen how much people want it. I don't think they'll care enough to write/record/program additional dialogue, but I think there'll be SOMETHING.

Oh yeah, they'll feature it like they did in ME2...she'll give you 500 extra credits for completing her mission if you did romance her.

The acknowledgement of the Liara romance via Kasumi was a step in the right direction, I feel. To me, that shows that BW are at least aware of what the Liara fans desire, and are attempting to rectify and improve the situation. Bodes well for any substantial Liara content in the future?

I've always been in a bit of an odd place regarding romance. Shepard never came alive for me the way my Warden, Revan, or Bhaalspawn did, though it's much easier for me to play as FemShep. Liara, Tali, and Miranda are my self-inserts. I identify with them. It makes it easy to play a variety of characters, but it also means I don't become as attached to the romances and the OTP stuff really mystifies me on an emotional level, though I get it intellectually.

I found it pretty easy to stay loyal to Liara. Considering the fact that malesheps romance  in ME2, were.

Tali: My 3. favorite character in the series. She is awesome but as a love intrest? Not a chance in hell.
Miri: A decent character. But she simply pales in comparrison to almost the rest of the cast.
Jack: I know there are jack fans here. And since I don't wanna start a flame war, i'm gonna leave at that.

Substantial? Before ME3 - I doubt it.

I think anything we get will be "solid" - it will mention it simply, and give is the acknowledgement we want. It won't give us tons of content, but what it does give us will probably be good enough - simply because it'll be one of the few things that actually refers to the romance.

I've never actually romanced Liara
I always kept her as a close friend who kicks ass with me and everyone else.

I agree.  This tells me that Bioware has been listening to the fans.

I meant substantial content in terms of her DLC, not specifically the romance. :P

Altered dialogue would be great, and a unique, romance exclusive scene would be fantastic. I think those are plausible. The romance would be acknowledged, but wouldn't really progress in any way.

I can actually picture something now.

At the end of her DLC, there'll be a very short scene where you can discuss the romance. I'm picturing one or two odd animations or lighting flickers due to the rushed nature of it.

At least Liara gets a mention, Kaidan and Ash get to bite the dust again!

No I dont think so. I think if there is anything romance related for Liara in DLC, it will simply complete the reset ME2 brought about, and will follow a similar line of Ash/Kais "maybe we can sort this out in at a later point" (read: try again in ME3).

They cant continue the romance though, unless they plan on having it accessible to only mass effect 1 players who stayed loyal, and since that would be no different to bringing back potentially dead squadmates with a significant role (where no everyone will see it, and therefore requires double the work) and so its not got a chance in hell I would say.

Best you can expect if you ask me is simply a "try again in ME3" confirmation, and I suppose thats only if were lucky.

That's good, I always like to see people that can appreciate her character outside of romance.

Makes up for the numerous mentions Ash/Kai get in the game, with the Liara romance virtually ignored altogether besides a kiss and one ambiguous comment.

Dammit, there's so much to worry about, so many ways in which they might possibly take the romance path in undesirable ways.

I thought that it was supposed to be a three arc romance? I'd hate it if they completed a romance reset to prepare for ME3. There's a romance chance that we'll have the rocky second chapter resolved in the bridging DLC, leaving the door open for a proper third act. I hope they realise that potential. I want Liara's romance to develop into something truly deep and special in ME3, not be a rehash of what we got in ME1.

Yep, I actually see quite a few fans of other characters expressing appreciation for Liara, even if they do not romance her. Heartening.

I'ma fan of all the characters in the game, can't find a reason to hate any of them, they're all cool.
Plus I'm glad I'm not contributing to the "lolloloo i virmirez dat whiny/raycyst biotch an it feelt gewwwd" or any number of comments about people dying on the suicide mission.
By saying you felt good doing it makes me wonder about your mental stability.
