Interesting what-might-have-been.

Starting off the game playing as Legion (and having a showdown with Liara!) *would* in fact have been very very odd. But for all the cool Legion stuff that was cut by dumping this original plan, Liara was probably cut even more. Doubt the comic makes up for it, but there's still hope for DLC.

Flem1, thanks for posting that, very interesting.

Seems like Liara's role in ME2 was at first a lot bigger and the whole story with the Shadow Broker was initially intended to entirely be a part of ME2, before it was obviously transferred to the comic and expanded. It does give me great hope for DLC, as the devs obviously wanted Liara to have a significant and substantial role/appearance in ME2.

QFT

DLC would be great. I wouldn't wanna wait to till ME3 to see how her whole ordeal with the Shadow Broker turns out...

Wow if thats true then I hope Feron is alive... So I can hopefully tell Legion to kill him. Odd or not that would have been a hell of a lot more interesting than what we've ended up with so far. The DLC better be epic.

well if that's true then extracting legion's afc containers should be interesting maybe I should do that. I do know Legion has a fair bit of lines for the first 4 dossiers since I hacked the ini to get him early

I guess now we have some sort of ending for Redemption and it will be interesting to see if Issue 4 plays out like that or did Bioware totally rewrite the story

Playing as other characters in a series that has been promoted as "Shepard's story" is bad and breaks the immersion even further.

This actually sounds good...

What the hell happened, ruined a good opeing and a story with at least some continuity for fear of confusing the new TPS casual crowd?

It would not have been perfect, but it would have alleviated many of the current complaint's, and would have made Liara a much more popular character with the new crowd who do not even know who she is.

It makes me curious about the final issues of the comics now. I'm wondering if they will actually show Legion in them, possibly teaming up with Liara after she gets to the SB base.
Liara+Feron team =
Liara+Legion team = :D

She can lose the useless drell for the awesome Geth sniper. I will cheer if Legion is part of the reason Feron gets left behind. It would actually put Legion above Mordin for my favorite ME2 character.

I does sound like Legion was meant to be an important character with a lot of development instead of the Geth you pick up right before the last mission of the game.

It would have been an interesting way to do things, and would have introduced the ME2 players to Liara and made her appearance on Ilium make more sense to everyone.

I am not saying I would have been completely happy with this set up, I still think the kill Shepard thing is lame to begin with, but it would have been satisfactory for me, probably enough so that I would not be on these forum's making complaints.

Well lets all of us hope Legion saves Liara from the lizard ( I refuse to say his name) or accidentally snipe him.

But something tells me it wont happen... :(

I definitely want Liara back, a DLC would really be appreciated and I think there's a good chance to see it. Think about it, Liara wants to shutdown that Shadow Broker and she might need our help doing so.

Here's a thread that I started over in the Liara Fan Club Group. I'll repost it here so more people will see it:

I was looking at videos of the Liara reunion on YouTube, when I noticed something that pleased me somewhat as at least it's more recognition of the romance.

We all know that if you import a Shep that romanced Liara that she greets him/her with a kiss and, if not, she merely hugs Shep, but I noticed some other little tidbits when I was watching a non Liara LI reunion on YouTube.

If you romanced Liara in ME1, when she says "My sources said you were alive, but I never....it's very good to see you!" as she says the last bit, she smiles warmly at Shepard, giving the impression that she is pleased, happy to see him her. If Liara wasn't romanced, she keeps a straight face as she says it, giving an impression of more contented relief.

Also, when you ask her to join the squad, and she says "I can't, Shepard. I'm sorry...etc", if you romanced her then she almost says it apologetically, as if she's reluctant. If not, then she frowns as she says it, and it sounds almost snappy and irritated.

As I said, I'm pretty pleased that I've noticed this as it seems like more recognition of the romance. It's all I've noticed so far, but I'm going to keep looking.

Here's a link of the convo for a non-romanced Liara on YouTube:

I used my own game save to compare. Anyone else notice this, or anything else?

Link to the topic.

I thought it was quite interesting.

hmm i didn't study it that much but I did notice that the tone of voice for some of your squad members actually changes as you progress in the story ( Miri being the really obvious one for me ) so I'm not that surprised Bioware did that

I was replaying ME1 as a femshep last night and got to the Liara section. I forgot how tough that Krogan was. totally worth it....Liara has the best NPC dialogue in the game. No contest.

There's time for subtly but having to compare youtube videos to pick up on a difference on whether two characters are in love with each other is not one of them.

Agreed but also shows BW does care imo.

They need to practice how to show it better then, they done a lousy job with it so far.

Going to reserve comments on this till ME3, after all, we'll never really know what was cut entirely, and the real reasons.

Yes, and I also think it will be expanded upon in the Liara DLC.

Having listened to that audio file, yes, I'm inclined to agree with you. But getting our hopes up over something that's still very much a rumour isn't wise.

There isn't rely any proof of any DLC, of course I hope there will be but I try not to think about it to much. No point to hype your self up just to get disappointed later.

Very true. This was a strange strange and totally out-of-place sequence in ME 2. Annoying! But that whole part seemed strange and rushed anyway.

Also true. I can only laugh about people claiming ME 2 combat was harder. Of course you could become very strong in ME 1, but only later in the game. Like in, y'know, any RPG. If you go to Liara first, that Krogan is the biggest challenge in the whole game, much more than anything in ME 2. Of course, the "reward" is worth it.

I didn't know about the differing audio, but still that is really obscure and to even notice a difference you'd have to do multiple playthroughs with a LI and nonLI character or go out of game to compare them. Which seems really skewed from just including one or two dialog options or a freaking email.
