That's the big problem.  Those that do not purchase the DLC would then miss out on what is arguably the defining moment (and the most moving one) in the Liara/Shep relationship....the romance reconcilliation post-ME2.

Perhaps they could include this in ME3 if you import a ME2 save that does not feature the Liara DLC? Have the romance conversations that deal with the reconciliation absent if you've already done so in the Liara DLC?

But, now they have to create two separate romances for ME3. The easy option is just to leave all romance stuff out of DLC and deal with it in ME3 in a romance that all players see, regardless if they played the DLC or not.

Whilst I agree that it is indeed easier to just include it in ME3, it doesn't necessitate two seperate romance paths in ME3. The romances could be identicle, save for the absence of the reconciliation conversation that will only be present in ME3 if you did not play the Liara DLC.

Yeah, but what will trigger that reconciliation conversation? In the DLC, something specific will have to happen to trigger it....OK, but now what will trigger it in ME3?

Possibly when you first recruit her? Or when you first speak to Liara on the Normandy?

And I would prefer that they spend time and resources in creating a path that will reward the people tha have remained faithful to Liara during the ME1 and ME2. Since IMO Liara will also be a ME3 romance for Shepards that haven't romanced her in ME1.

I don't really mean in game, but in the story. Some specific events will happen leading up to the romance reconciliation. These events won't have happened in the beginning of ME3...what would then prompt Liara to open up and lead to the reconciliation?

My 2 Cents ...

The Liara/Shadow Broker DLC should appear in the gap between ME2 and ME3 and not be a Cerberus mission as hinted at in the cut audio files. Liara should be a temporary solo squadmate for the duration of the mission. The mission should NOT involve the Hammerhead, but admittedly that is a personal choice. In the end Liara becomes the new SB and refuses to come w/ Shepard, stating that she could be of more use to Shepard’s mission using the SB’s resources. If romanced Liara confesses that although she has dreamed of her and Shep’s reunion, the events of the past two years have made her weary. As much as she still loves Shep, she doesn’t think she can just pick up where they left off w/ the relationship. As in ME1 she asks Shep to wait and give her more time to deal with the reality of the events. (It’s not every day your lover comes back from the dead.) Liara confesses that this is partly the reason she cannot return to the Normandy. Shep can tell Liara that she/he will wait or say that she/he has moved on for whatever reason.

In ME3, Liara begins as a replacement for TIM, the council, etc, but at some point (25% of game time) joins the Normandy crew.

Oh, and I finally got my ME2 avatar up. Took forever to get it up on the site.

Her recruitment, perhaps? The manner in which you recruit Liara could be a major story event that sees Shepard and Liara thrown together in combat together. They'd again grow close in adversity, and thus begins the process of Liara opening up to Shepard and the start of the reconciliation.

Well if ME3 starts with Liara rescuing Shepard this could be the trigger.

That's an interesting idea, Jamie. It would explain why, even though Liara may join you as a squad mate to take down the SB, she still doesn't permanently join you at the end of the DLC (saving this until ME3). It also relates to my idea that Liara is worried that the relationship with Shepard is not the same and may not ever be the same with out lots of work, of course.

Oh, and 'yay!' for the avatar!

I'd only be happy with Liara being available to new players in ME3 if it doesn't compromise the loyal Liara romance that began all the way back in ME1. If that were the case, then I'd just want Liara to be available as a romance to those of us who began the relationship all the way back in ME1.

Yeah, but then a separate path would be needed there for those that did not play the DLC, as opposed to the ones that did.  They will need extra dialog to lead up to the reconcilliation for those that missed out on the DLC.  It just can't be,

'Oh, thanks Liara for rescuing me!'
'You are welcome, Shepard.'
'I love you!'
'I love you, too'

I don't want Liara as the new SB besides the SB resources will be of litle use against the reaper fleet. And I don't want Liara once again dealing with her feelings way from Shepard I want Liara and Shepard dealing with the problems of their relationshipt together. I also want Liara as squadmate from the begining of ME3.

Also, like Jamie says, Liara utilising the Shadow Broker's resources doesn't necessary preclude her from being a squadmate in ME3! She could, during the events of ME3, run her information network in name only and leave it in the hands of a committee that delegates to her whilst she's off on the Normandy saving the galaxy with Shepard.

Liara being the quest giver in ME3 whilst still being a squadmate would be awesome!!

Of course, there's no way they could do something like that. It'd be very bizarre!

All they'd need to do is have a few additional conversations with Liara and some altered dialogue. After that, the relationship would proceed as normal.

I don't want Liara as the new SB because the SB is brutal not because he wants but because he needs to be in order to keep is empire, if Liara becames the new SB with time she will become like the SB is now look what two years have done to her. For much will that Liara has to be a good information broker that's not how the job works the competitors will always play dirty and like for the past two years she will be forced to do bad things in order to suvive especialy if she is in the SB place.

You realize they did exactly this for people who never recruited Garrus in ME1 right?

Oh, don't remind me of these poll comments.

A couple of them are pretty bad. I always feel so awkward in these discussions because I don't feel any attachment to the romances of my favorite characters. I like Liara and her romance, but I'm not planning on doing more than one game with her as my LI. Her appeal lies elsewhere for me. Same with Miranda. So I really don't get some of the "my LI is so much better than yours" crowing in the comments. Or rather I get it--this is a glorified shipping war--but I can only shrug and fantasize about my non-Shepard ships.

Right, but I like to think they'd treat the Liara romance with a little more significance than as to whether Garrus was recruited in ME1 or not. Who knows, maybe they'd put the effort in for ME3?

Hey, they play the Vigil music too!

Why couldn't Liara get Vigil music, dammit!

Yeah, it's a big pissing contest.  While Liara is the only character I also like as an LI, I don't think she's inherently better or worse than other options for LI.

Because her scenes were hacked apart, and then sloppily slapped back together again!

Quick update for the 1 or 2 people actually reading Freya's Story...

Originally I had decided to skip the reunion scene with Liara - on the basis that I didn't want to rewrite it as we're so familiar with it, and I didn't want to simply transcribe the in-game dialogue.

Turns out, I've got quite a good idea on how to modify the scene - so I'm currently writing a new version of the meeting.

Be warned - you think the in-game scene was annoying; you ain't seen nothin' yet...

Oh, sounds good MDK, even if it is supposed to be a little annoying.

Looking forward to it! I guess...
