Having just played through Noveria yet again today, and refreshing my memory of just how Liara is forced to watch on helplessly as Benezia succumbs to the effects of indoctrination and dies in agony, it really made me think just how much of an insensitive idiot Shepard is in ME2 by throwing what happened to Benezia back in Liara's face. Liara probably suffered enough watching her own mother die in that manner, and the trauma Liara probably suffered would have been incredibly intense. For Shepard to then throw that at Liara is incredibly cruel. I hate that dialogue choice.

Yes it's terrible, especially considering that the Benezia Liara remembers isn't the Benezia Shepard met for those brief minutes.

Yep, and Liara even makes a point of emphasising this.

"My mother was corrupted by Saren's influence...."

No idea as to why she says "Saren" instead of "Sovereign". I guess it's just the writers again. But anyway, think of how incredibly distraught and pained at the time Liara was. Her grief at seeing her loving mother, the woman that brought her into this world and raised her, dying in agony, brainwashed and warped into a ruthless, violent and aggressive parody of the person Liara loved. Think what that must have been like for Liara, just how horrifying it was to witness that.

Fast forward two years, and having suffered to an even greater extent, Shepard does something incredibly cruel and insensitive and throws that crap back at Liara. I find it commendable on Liara's part that she didn't burst into tears there and then.

Oh, and Liara advocating forgiveness of the Rachni Queen and advising that Shepard release it makes me smile every single time. Such compassion, such selflessness, such a caring attitude. One of her best personality traits, IMO.
