I think Colonist Shepard can be compared to Liara, but not Earthborn.
Earthborn never had parents to love and lose.
'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

You're trivializing Liara's resolve. You think she's just some "poor girl," yet she is more than capable of handling the trauma, because she's strong. Also, it didn't seem to bother her after you talk to her about Benezia on the Normandy, so the only conclusion is that she was rational and realistic of her mother's demise.

I like to pretend she never lost Shepard. I like to pretend ME 2 was just a bad dream for her and me both. <_<

I would first say that after playing ME3.

Why? No matter how good ME 3 might be, it doesn't change ME 2 one bit.

You'll find most people here respect how strong and mature she is about the whole thing. Concern and pity are two different things, BTW. Showing concern for her and the loss of someone close to her is something people that care about her will do.

To be honest, I prefer doing Feros first and Therum second. Shepard doesn't know Liara yet, and it makes more sense to try and save the colony ASAP (even though they're still grumpy about you "taking too long"). I also prefer to bring lots of shotguns there, rather than see those Thorian creepos puke all over Liara; and all that Feros leveling means that Liara can start kicking ass right after you rescue her.

Makes more sense to rescue the VIP first, the colony can hold out. But if you lose Liara it's game over.

In the beginning you don't really know why you really need her, or whether she's even friendly...
