Support Liara T'Soni for ME3 - Squadmate and LI

Its just the kind of thing I dont like about ME2. As J said, content with your original LI is few and far between, and when its there it takes the ******. Oh but dont worry, you can have your new secretary who will basically lapdance for you.
Sums it up for me really. "What can we do to waste time?" "I know, lets..." etc.

It seems that the Kellymance was never meant to be taken too serioiusly...they have even referred to it as 'just an easter-egg'.
I find that very hard to believe, even if they say so. They invested way too much effort into her writing for that, including the romantic / friendly parts of the dialogue. Just like in Liara's case, I suspect they had her role planned quite differently, especially of course the end of it.

It's terrible... the whole game feels empty without her.LesEnfantsTerribles wrote...

Or replace Kelly with Liara! Sexy stripping, lap sitting, and bed cuddling!
Wish that was possible, ratz! Shepard's cabin feels very empty and lonely without Liara there, doesn't it?

Give them a fish tank!
Add in even more needless planets to scan!
Create a stupid fetch quests like grocery shopping for the cook!

They probably figured straight up shooter fans wouldnt like having to actually talk to these characters themselves (since its ME2, I dont blame them for the most part), and added in Kelly as the "squad errand pager". Since they couldnt just leave it at that, they added in the whole "secretary romance".

One thing I'll have to ask is. Why do you blame the more "shooter" focused gameplay as a reason for why the ME2 story sucked? Last I checked. Being a shooter does not have any relevance at all about the quality of the story-department, just look at Half-life or Bioshock. Also don't they have diffrent teams for making story and gameplay? And I doubt they influence each other that much.
Unless of course you claim that the masses only play shooters and don't care about the story, so Bioware didn't feel presured to make a story up to their standard.

I hate that you have to flirt with Kelly in order for her to start feeding your fish. She's your damn secretary. Kelly should do that regardless. I don't even buy fish because I don't like flirting with her at all to keep them alive. Liara is all I care for.
Yeah, she should just do it for her....I never flirt with her, so I have to do this crap myself! I'm Shepard! I have a personal assistant! Why do I have to feed my own fish!? Someone feeds the hamster!

Also, it seems that as a story it´s close to finishing, people want the ending as soon as possible. At least in some TV series the main criticism in plot was just "I want the end before half last season", and it feels like that with some of the comments about the ME2 plot.

It's very tempting to buy the Thessian Sunfish though. They remind me of Liara. <333
Awww...they remind me of her too. I usually do buy them at least for that reason.

Being a shooter does naturally tend to lead to a poor story. Im a fan of half-life but lets be honest here, it does not have a good story. Its got a very stretched and linear narrative where the player will occasionaly glean little tidbits here and there.
If you sum up exactly what has been learnt in the Half-Life series so far and focused on it in depth, it makes for a pathetic list. Its mostly just a survival trek through the eyes of Gordon Freeman with lots of impressive scripted action sequences, but with very little focus on lengthy dialogue. (Id say the most significant deviation from this is White Forest in EP2, but that is the only standout moment really in the entire series so far. Normally youll be right back into the action within mere minutes).
Bioshock had an awful story IMO, which again relies too much on simply experiencing scripted events, and also peddles most of its backstory and exposition through tedious audio messages.
Put it simply, shooters arent designed to be meaty storytelling experiences. They are supposed to be intense, twitch combat based action marathons.
Naturally, since ME2 is a shooter at its core, far too much time is spend focused on action.
I was playing ME1 recently and I was on the citadel, and in an entire hours worth of gameplay I had roguhly fully 10 minutes of combat.
In ME2 its the exact opposite, with completing any of the recruitment or loyalty missions (with the notable exception of Thane and Samaras loyalty missions) leading to about 10 minutes or so of dialogue if youre lucky, the rest being cover based combat scenarios.
Like it or not, in ME2s ridiculous focus to become a standard TPS (the game is directly aimed at fans of Gears of War and MW2, the developers said this in the marketing) it transformed areas of the game.
There is a reason why getting close to 90% of the places you visit in ME2 are nothing more than one-off disposable combat levels ("shooting galleries" is what ME2s detractors aptly call them).
This isnt Liara based though, so its off topic.
Still, I hope I answered your question.

Interesting enough post. I may not agree with everything you said.
This isn't about Liara so let's leave it.

The first version shows the blue glow coming from the stock ticker outside Liara's office. The second version is without the stock ticker's glow.

Hello, fellow Liarafans. Here are the final versions of the picture I commissioned. I posted the lineart earlier in the thread, if you remember. This is the default male Shepard.
