Having never played NWN, are there any similarities between Liara and Aribeth?
No, no specific things come to mind. You could point out SOME similarities, but its the ridiculous, "so uniform as to be meaningless" kind.
But I didnt like Aribeth, so I might be thinking defensively.

Seems unlikely though, considering the content of the rest of Liara's scenes and if you actually listen to her dialogue.
I did listen to her dialog

I don't think there are similarities between Liara/Aribeth, Liara/Bastila, or even Aribeth/Bastila just from a character perspective. Aribeth/Bastila are similar just in the way they 'fell' and how this impacted the romance. I just worry that the same will happen to Liara down the road, and she'll be thrown in with them, to create the 'Liaribastila' cliche.
Do you still worry about this, despite evidence to the contrary presented in ME2? That various subtleties to Liara's ME2 dialogue suggests otherwise? Like I've said in the past, I think BW's intention with Liara's ME2 scenes was to initially deceive the player into thinking they're taking Liara down their tired, old, cliched AriBastila path. The manner in which the door to Liara's office opens and you're immediately confronted with Liara quoting Benezia, and threatening a client is intended to be as shocking and jarring to the player as possible. You think that something has gone seriously wrong with Liara, and that BW are taking her down a "dark path". As Liara gradually opens up and you listen to her dialogue, you realise that this is not the case. When Liara then opens up fully and pours her heart out, it is then dismissed entirely. That's what I believe to be the case, that BW were decieving the player into thinking that they were taking Liara down this route, when in actuality this is not their intention.

Yes, I still worry about it, that would suck and they can do whatever they want, even if it makes no sense and even if they did a poor job of setting it up in previous installments, because they have the POWER!!!!!!!!!!!

That's true, but the fact that I feel that they're clearly presenting evidence that suggests otherwise in ME2 causes me to think that they're not going to go down this route with Liara.

That's the big problem I think that after ME1 nobody would say that Liara will follow the path that she did in ME2 every body was expecting something different but they folowed this path even not being the one that fits what we have seen of Liara in ME1 althought that didin't stoped them I'm not sure that they will not do similar for ME3 I realy hope not but I still fear that something like this may happen.

Yeah, but they also presented clear evidence in ME1 that Liara would stand with Shepard against the Reapers until the end.
Then, look what happened in ME2.....
Did anyone honestly expect anything like that to happen?

On the extremely positive and unlikely side, you can argue Liaras role took the turn it did SPECIFICALLY so her character could make good on that.
If you believe what CHud says, shes too important to die on the suicide mission because there is stuff shes needed for in ME3.
Maybe its "standing with Shepard against the reapers until the end".
Or maybe its a plot sensitive supporting character role.....

If the ME team comes up with some "bad" writing to deliver a proper continuation of the Liara romance, I'm all for it. For example, I'm willing to accept any explanation for her to drop the whole "hunt for the Shadow Broker" thing and just come back to the Normandy as the Liara we all liked from ME 1. Actually, I'd be willing to accept if they made that happen without any explanation at all.

About Aribeth, yes. It is forcing the issue getting her in hell after what was done to her in the OC, and retconing some parts of her personality and relationship with her fianceé.bjdbwea wrote...
Bad writing in HotU? That was the only of the three NWN campaigns that I really liked. I think the writing was generally very good. And since the fans demanded a proper Aribeth romance after the OC, they got one.

They didn't have to take Liara of the Normandy to make sure she is in ME3 Joker is on the Normandy and he is 100% certain that will be alive to ME3. They could heve Liara on the Normandy working as information broker from the ship and she would not join missions because she would be busy gathering informatiom.
naah the fan cry would be even bigger then, for not be able to take her with ya even if shes on the ship.
or not...I dunno ...god Im so depressed at the moment...
DAMN YOU SPAIN!
I need Liara to cheer me up...somebody post a happy Liara pic!
