Looking around the internet, I'm coming to the realisation that Liara still maintains a sizeable, substantial and devoted fanbase despite her reduced screentime in ME2. Encouraging!

On one hand. I'm glad Liara still have a decent sized amount of people left.

On the other hand. It's sad to know the only reason for that is the hot lesbian action aspect.

That's a sad assumption to make.

Yeah, I'm a straight girl and I love Liara to pieces. Hot lesbian action doesn't really enter into it.

I can agree within the parameters of my own experience that yes, a good sized portion is in it primarily for the lesbian aspects. But I will have to disagree that it is the only reason. That's simply not true.

People are assuming that FemShep/Liara's overwhelming popularity and preference amongst the fanbase is due to the "hot lesbian action"?

Ugh.

Is FemShep/Liara the most popular? Never knew that. *is a shameless Kaidan fangirl*

It actually doesn't enter into it for me, either.  There really is no action to be seen in all honesty...if that's all you are looking for, there's plenty of other places on the internet where you can find it.

Oh sorry, let me clarify, jtav. What I mean is that amongst Liara's fanbase, there is an almost overwhelming preference for FemShep/Liara. This is illustrated in the dominance of work featuring a female Shepard and Liara in fanart and fiction.

For example, if you go to deviantArt and search for "Liara", the results will display a pretty strong preference for FemShep/Liara. Likewise with fanfiction.net.

I have noticed this too Les.  Actually, when you type in Commander Shepard, the first few pages are full of Fem Shep.

I wrote it wrong. OF course their are many many more other reasons why people love Liara. BUt the only reason she is able to hold third place when it comes to popularity is for the reason I mentioned.

But a perfectly valid one too.

Like it or not, Liaras fanbase would be even more dried up if there was any particularly strong F/F romance in ME2.

Sure a lot of guys play femsheps.

Do any of those guys actively romance male romance options? Nuh uh, hardly any of them do.

While there are more tactful ways to put it, the F/F is a massive draw.

That's because she's awesome.B)

Liara is also aware of FemShep's awesomeness.

That I've noticed. What's interesting is that fanfic is largely a female activity, though I don't know if that holds true for Liara writers?

I remember when ME1 was out, and an equally "overwhelming" number of Liaramancers were maleshep players.

Liara/femshep popularity is only "overwhelming" at the moment because of ME2 lacking any prominent F/F squad romance option. To suggest otherwise is insulting to those who enjoy the M/F of the Liara romance, but are overshadowed by the amount of M/F romancers who (with extremely good reason) ditched Liara in ME2.

I was on the escapist forums once. There was a poll for which LI you had in the mass effect series.

Liara was on third place (After Tali and Miranda). And of the 2/3 people who posted in the poll who were loyal to Liara. Their reason was she's the only F/F.

If Miri or Jack or Tali were able as F/F. The amount of people staying loyal to Liara would have a major drop.

I think so...there seems to be a fair amount of Liara fan fic writers who are female.  There are definitely some males true, but I do agree that it seems females write more fan fics in general.

One poll doesn't really seal the deal for me but we can agree to disagree.  ;)

2 or 3 commenters on an internet poll is hardly comprehensive and conclusive evidence to back up such a sweeping generalisation.

If Liara is returned as a squadmate in ME3 (and thats a big if), its pretty likely they would make her romanceable by all, as limiting such a thing isnt very smart after the time, resources and effort thats put in to implement it.

With that in mind, if such a thing did happen, I think youd see a return to the sort of equilibrium that you got after ME1*.

To suggest Liara/femshep is naturally the more popular overall though is a complete nonsense, and likewise Id need Statistics/Sales Charts/ Pie Charts or it didn't happen.

It's only one poll true. But to deny the "only F/F" aspect of the romance is not a major factor into Liara's popularity is being blind.

I don't think it really matters which Shep romances Liara. I have one of each who have romanced her, but whatever. The point s, if Liara does return as a full crew member for the game, she will def. be romancable by all. If there was a cheating Shep, though, I doubt they'll have a confrontation scene . . . you might just have to pass a convo check or something, and we all know what a joke that is in ME . . ..

I think he just meant more popular in fanfic/fan art, and this appeared to be the case even pre-ME2.

It's probably about 50/50 for those that just play it, though.
