Liara story in ME2 could not only be beter explained but it could also be more important to ME2 plot and this not only because I would have liked that Liara had a more significant role in ME2 but also because it would make ME2 story better,IMO. The way they could have donne this is add to ME2 some main missons involving the SB this because we go thought the all game without know anything significant about the collectors we go thougth the relay witout a clue to what we will find in the other side IMO we should had some missons where we hunt the SB with Liara help and in this missons we would find information that the SB has on the collectors because he his the only lead to the collectors that we have and this lead is completely ignored, this would not only make Liara role in ME2 more significant but IMO it would also make the ME2 story stronger.
If you believe certain talk, Liaras role seems to have gone through quite a few permutations in ME2. Ultimately, its too late for her ME2 role now, along with Ashley/Kaidan as well. Thats done and dusted now. All thats left is to wait and see what comes, and see just how it proposes to make good on having to sit through that sorry excuse for a role in ME2. Or not, perhaps.
Ive said it before, but despite always anticipating a bad role in ME2 and getting just that, if it can actually be worth it in ME3 and mean that yes, because she is - along with the Virmire Survivor - (who is default set to Shepards opposite gender without import I believe) now the ONLY squadmates who are guaranteed to be alive, that will most certainly count come ME3.
The question is, what will that count for in ME3? Slightly more flashy, high profile cameos than other squadmates? Or will they actually get a second game where they are actually important squadmates?
