Unless of course Liara developles  her own mind-controling powers.

And jugding by this topic she's already done that.

Indeed.

'I will kill for you, Liara.  Anything you want.'

Reminds me of all those outrageous theories that Liara was an AY and thats why she was acting like that on Illium.

I'd have to say I might have romanced Liara in ME1 if her attitude was the same as it was in ME2. In ME1 she kinda filled that slobber all over Shepard role that Tali plays in ME2. Hopefully Liara will join your squad, I could always use somebody to flay people alive.

I can understand if people found her attitude displeasing.

And you right that Tali's romance have some of the same elements that Liara's romance had in ME1.

Already completed the campaing on normal.

I don't wanna spoil anything but trust me when I say this.

Last mission in the protoss mini-campaing IS THE BEST AND MOST AWESOME MISSION I'VE EVER TRIED IN A RTS!

Last mission in the terran campaing is also nice.

Thats true for pretty much all of the romances however.

I think its due to the nature of it being an interactive media that requires player choice. They need to "tell" the player what is coming. Bioware does this in a lot of things, and while it often lacks subtlety, Id probably prefer it to the alternative where you might feel like you have been tricked.

Jack and Miranda in ME2 were just as obvious as Tali was, and Liara and Ashley were in ME1. Its probably just a necessary evil.

Once I completed Jack, Miranda and Talis loyalty missions, I found out these characters had pretty much nothing left, since I wasnt prepared to engage in the romance their dialogues were screaming about.

Any new romances in ME3 will probably do the same as will any romances for characters that return if were lucky.

I haven't been on the forums a while, but my interest is turning back to ME 2 now that a Liara DLC is coming out. Since this thread is huge, could someone give me the long and short of the theories at the moment: do you think Liara will be a temporary squadmate in this DLC? Do you think that the romance will be continued, or will Bioware blow it off until ME 3?

Hey there. I know my post is a little late, but I'd like to state my theories or opinions anyway. I hope you enjoy reading them!

Regarding the possibility of Liara being a temporary squadmate for the duration of her DLC, I believe that will be the case. I know some people have used the released screenshot that depicts Garrus, Tali and Liara alongside Shepard as evidence that she might perhaps only be an AI non-squaddie NPC for the duration of her DLC, in a similar vein to Garrus during his loyalty mission, but I do not think that is the case. I actually believe that the screenshot in question was created in order to induce a feeling of nostalgia for ME1 amongst the playerbase, and that BioWare included all three characters at Shepard's side in that screenshot for that very purpose. It is therefore very easy to misconstrue it as evidence that Liara will not be a controlable squadmate for the duration of her DLC, or that perhaps BW are testing out the possibility of having three squadmates accompanying Shepard in order to assess whether it can be implemented in ME3. However, like I said, I do not believe that to be the case. The screenshot was merely created with all three characters at Shepard's side to refer back to ME1, as half of the original squad are then depicted. In actuality, the Liara DLC will feature the standard "Shepard & 2 squadmates" system, with Liara occupying one of those spots.

As for the actual content and mechanics of Liara's temporary squadmate role, I think that she will have the standard "3 offensive powers and 1 class power" system, with her "loyalty power" unlocked as it is not necessary, and because I believe that this content will be post suicide mission, and therefore the player's level will be already quite high. It will also already be unlocked as Liara will not have a loyalty mission, unlike the other ME2 squadmates, because it is not a necessity and she will only be used for her DLC mission. However, I then think it is entirely possible that Liara could then board the Normandy as a non-squadmate NPC after the conclusion of her DLC, especially if it is indeed post-suicide mission as I believe to be the case. In order to maintain the status quo of Liara guaranteed to be alive for ME3, I believe that she will only board the Normandy as an NPC if this DLC is post-suicide mission. Otherwise, some other reason for Liara being unable to rejoin the crew will be created, but which sets up her squadmate status for ME3.

The romance? I do believe it will be featured in this DLC in some form, but to what extent remains unknown. I like to believe that if the player has remained faithful to her throughout ME2, then romance content will be featured in full with the possibility of a unique and special scene at the conclusion of the DLC that sonewhat reaffirms the romance. If the player cheated on Liara in ME2, then I like and support the previously suggested idea that Shepard will remain cool and distant from Liara, and the consequences of cheating will then be handled in ME3, in order to have the romance and consequences progress at exactly the same rate as both Ashley and Kaidan's respective romances. If Liara was not romanced at all, then both Shepard and Liara will remain good friends, with the possibility of the door being opened for Liara to be romanced in ME3, so that she is available for new players. However, the "faithful" romance content is obviously what intrigues and interests me the most, and I do believe that it will be featured for those of us that have been faithful to her in ME2, with a unique scene implemented as I suggested before. Altered dialogue is also likely, IMO.

Oh, and I'd like to explain that the reason as to why I remain certain that the romance will be featured in this DLC is due to the fact that it was all but absent from the retail version of the game. I actually believe that the status quo of Shepard and Liara's relationship, and the uneasiness contained within, was being maintained for this DLC in an incredibly contrived way. This will then allow Liara and Shepard's romance to then be tackled in this DLC, when the player finally acquires Liara's "full" ME2 role as always intended, so to speak.

Liara imitating Morinth's dialogue? I could see her doing that as a means to be humourous and playful. I actually think she could sound absolutely adorable, and cute whilst doing so!:wizard:

Oh, and in case anybody is not aware, the month of August will begin tomorrow, and Jarrett Lee confirmed that more information pertaining to the Liara DLC will be released next month.

I am eagerly anticipating a trailer, additional screenshots, a release date and more information concerning the DLC's size and approximate duration. Can't wait!!!

Actuelly I was thinking more in the lines of "Shy girl with a crush on the hero". As for what you said. All romances in the game needs the yes/no moment because it sucks when the game tricks you into a romance path despite you never intended it in the first place.

Happend to me in DA when I was romancing Morrigan but the game thought I also went for Lellinia because I had higher approval of her (due to getting all her gifts early).

I'd love that, and would be really interested in hearing what Ali would say about Liara and Mass Effect in general.

Do you know what would be really weird? I think someone's already broached this topic, but what if Ali Hillis voiced the Female PC in Dragon Age 2?

Weird in a good way. A very very good way.

Thats it really though - outside of summing it up as "shy girl with a crush on the hero", there arent really too many similarities after that. Liara is open and honest about her feelings, Tali is evasive to begin with and later doubtful about their relationship and thinks Shepard would be better finding someone else.

Really then its Liara who slows things down, and when it comes to the final romance scene, is full of confidence. Tali on the other hand is eager to get things moving, and at the romance scene is not particularly confident.

Yeah, I understand that on the surface they are similar, but I always have trouble seeing any similarities much further than that really.

As long as it isn't Jennifer Hale or Mark Meer that voices the PC in DA2.

Male Hawke should Al Pacino or Morgan Freeman.

I think you can comprehensively rule that out.

Not only because it would mean ridiculous amounts of voicework need doing for the two of them, they are having a hard enough time convincing people Hawke isnt a fantasy version of Shepard as is. Using those two wouldnt help matters at all.

We see with Kaidan that if people hear a voice, they abandon logic and spout stupid crap about the characters being the same even though they fundamentally arent.

There's one more thing that differentiates Liara from Tali. Now, I've only done her romance once, but it seemed to me that Tali was a lot more enamored with the identity and legend of Commander Shepard. Whereas Liara seemed to be attracted to the personality and character of (first name) Shepard.

Ali Hillis is quite capable of voicing a lead protagonist, as we saw with Lightning in Final Fantasy XIII. I say why not?

Hell, she'd have to voice a protagonist if the Liara-focused spin off game I've suggested in the past ever comes to fruition. XD
