Les, Tali uses a SMG when she confronts Legion after you do both there missions and my Soldier Shepard used a SMG a couple of times.

A unique inter-squadmate confrontation, and one featuring concerning Shepard and not squadmates.

My Shepard pulled out the Shutiken a couple of times and I can't even use SMGs....

Promotional image discussion aside, has there been another time when Bioware have tweaked things to a comparable degree before? Because I'm going by Bioware's reputation, and as I understand it right now, the reputation says they wouldn't pull something like this for screenshot marketing.

The image posted above for the purposes of promoting the alternate appearence pack. Thane happens to be using one of his unique cutscene animations outside of the situation in which it is used.

I'm fairly sure that's one of his "idle" animations. And the Alternate Appearance Pack is not suppose to feature gameplay. I think there would be a distinction as the differences in which they would promote it.

Yes, but that's Shepard. We're discussing interchangeable squadmate positionings. I don't even know why Lizard is uploading these screenshots of his Shepard, to be honest.

I hope I'm the only one who has that image as a broken link.

I got a screenshot of Garrus using the SMG.

"EDIT" There's something wrong with the link for some reason.

A user above confirmed that it is one of Thane's animations during the interrogation scene in his loyalty mission. Furthermore, I have used Thane a great deal and do not remember that being one of his idle animations.

Exactly. Tali. Post an image of someone like Zaeed or Jacob using an SMG in exactly the same interchangeable situation and we'll start talking.

I want visual proof. My Shepard happens to be equipped with the Tempest, a large SMG that would be extremely noticeable in cutscenes. Not once did I see her wielding one.

It's actually really complicated as to when Shepard and company will draw certain weapons Shepard tends to draw an SMG or Heavy Pistol in cutscenes but companions tend to draw a character specific weapon unless for whatever reason they are supposed to have a pistol in which case non pistol and SMG using characters will by default draw an M-4 SMG.

Image IPB
Here Shepard draws the SMG, Mordin a pistol and Grunt an Assult Shotgun (didn't unlock it at the time)

Image IPB
Here however Shepard has a pistol, Miranda her SMG (Tempest will show here if unlocked) while Garrus has an Assault Rifle that he holds like an SMG with two hands on the grip.

Image IPB
However in his Loyalty mission he needs to threaten someone with a pistol type weapon and he pulls a M-4 SMG

Image IPB
Again Shepard draws an SMG while Companions use specific weapons, mostly Pistols Grunt draws a Predator since he doesn't by default have a pistol while Tali does.

When you meet Nassana one of your squadmates will pull out either their smg or pistol. Try take two squadmates which don't have either.

Tali is using an SMG, a weapon she cannot use in a non-character specific situation, whereas Garrus is using his sniper rifle.

Again, further proof that the image has been altered.

Yep.

So it's like in Miranda's loyalty mission?

Irrelevant. That is a character specific situation, in which Miranda will always use her own weapons. Garrus, however, is holding his assault rifle like an SMG. This is not the case in the Liara DLC image.

Well, if Bioware released those screenshots to get us talking, I guess it worked.

Because they were designed to have you eagerly anticipating reforming half the ME1 squad. :wizard:

Garrus is supposed to hold a weapon he does not have (like in Miri's LM) so instead he pulls out the weapon he used before the cutscene starts (like in Miri's LM).

Seems like the case to me.

We're never going to agree on this are we? Image IPB

I suppose an agree-to-disagree would work.

Bioware should just stick to giving squad mates pistols or the weapons they actually use. :P They probably just had it this way in the games because it's easier (less to code).

The standard is that characters hold a "default weapon" like an SMG. Garrus is firing his sniper rifle from the hip, in accordance with his ME2 characterisation. It simply is not consistent, and points to the fact that the image has been altered for aesthetic purposes.

Agreed. :)

When the Liara DLC is released, if said scene above never materialises and Liara is a temp squaddie then I will be like this: B)

If the supposed scene above is featured, then I will be like this:

I guess that's where we will have to disagree and wait for the DLC. I personally believe that whoever takes Garrus place in that cutscene will hold a weapon like that.

Sorry, I came into this conversation late. Are we talking about the scene (possible scene, anyway) shown in the screenshot where Shepard has Liara, Garrus, and Tali in the squad and they have their weapons out?
