Agreed. :)

When the Liara DLC is released, if said scene above never materialises and Liara is a temp squaddie then I will be like this: B)

If the supposed scene above is featured, then I will be like this:

I also think Liara will be a temporary squadmate, maybe even the third squadmate perhaps? (they did say they were trying to create some new gameplay mechanic inside the game).

I guess that's where we will have to disagree and wait for the DLC. I personally believe that whoever takes Garrus place in that cutscene will hold a weapon like that.

Whereas I am very confident that Joe Bloggs the BioWare developer has fiddled around with the character models and inserted them into this scene in order to create said image.

Sorry, I came into this conversation late. Are we talking about the scene (possible scene, anyway) shown in the screenshot where Shepard has Liara, Garrus, and Tali in the squad and they have their weapons out?

Yeah, but it looks like the conversation has just pretty much wrapped itself up, Collider. Sorry!

I like the idea that the DLC can only be done after the suicide mission is over. After you're done, Liara joins your ship and you get to call her up to the Normandy. you can't take her on missions though. Maybe too ambitious, but we'll see what happens.

I doubt that since Wrex, Ash/Kaidan fans will hate that.

I'm also hoping for something like that. After the conclusion of her DLC, Liara will rejoin the Normandy as a non-squadmate NPC.

They may - or they may see that as hope for Virmire Survivor DLC that also has the squad mate join the ship at the end. As I said though, it's a bit unrealistic, especially considering that them rejoning you is pretty important just for DLC.

Again, I doubt that, because there's no more room on the ship.

I'm just saying, because I'd rather keep everyone's hopes a bit more realistic, then to have everyone get all hyped about having Liara on the ship, only for it not to happen.

Sorry, I did not mean to offend. I was just posing an idea that I thought perhaps could be nice.

I know that I'm renowned as being one of the more optimistic Liara fans, and I like to have my hopes held quite high, but I am prepared for and can handle any possible disappointments. Don't worry.

Well, I'm not offend. It's just I've been reading this, that, and other threads, and it seems that's the bit everyone's excited/hoping for, and yet I bet that's the one thing that isn't going to happen (aka, she lives on the ship after her DLC). I just don't want her DLC to get overhyped, and then everyone starts complaining about why it didn't happen.

Liara will be onboard the Normandy to say farewell and promise that she will return soon (I hope). But I don't want her to be onboard the Normandy as a npc nor will that happen I think.

I am not very optimistic that Liara will join the ship but I doubt that's the problem. We can invite Kelly to Shep's cabin, but we never see her quarter^_^
For example, Liara could share the lab with Mordin or "wait" in the mess-hall/medical bay/etc.

as a VS supporter, i would have to say that i plan to read NOTHING into what Liara DLC is or does unless there is a direct kaidan/ashley reference. to my mind, the VS and liara storylines are pretty clearly separate. what they do with one will give us no clue what the devs have planned for the other.

i for one am thrilled to have liara back and to find out about the shadow broker. just saying hi - yay liara.

OK...WTH?

How did they create that image then?  Did they photoshop Tali on or something?  :P

Seriously, I do agree that they do things with camera angles or trigger animations (like the Thane pic) for the sake of of screen shots.  I just don't think they hacked up the game so that Shepard would have Liara plus Garrus and then hack in Tali to follow them just for the sake of a screen shot, to envoke a feeling of 'nostalgia'.

I think just having Garrus and Liara would have evoked that same feeling.

This is true...the only thing characters like Liara/Ash/Kaidan/Wrex have in common is that they were not squad mates again in ME2.  What happens with Liara is independent of the VS survivor story and the Wrex storyline.

I still have a feeling that Liara is being set up to become a plot critical non-squad mate npc in ME3, along with Wrex (with Wrex to a lesser extent as he could be dead), and both will not be joining Shepard as a squad mate.  The VS will be a squad mate again, though.

That's just my hunch...they saved Liara not so she can be a squad mate in ME3, but b/c they have larger plans for her character.  I know most Liara fans do not want to hear something like this, but I'm just throwing it out there as a possibility.  The upcoming DLC may shed some light on this, though.

Well, they could always add an extra level onto the ship to give Liara some space.  While I don't think they will do so, it's possible.  That could be one of the changes to the main ME2 game that needed to be made for this DLC.

No, it's considerably more technical and intricate than merely photoshopping Tali's character onto the image. What I believe they did is take the character models for all four characters, and positioned and posed them like that in order to create something of an "action shot" in order use for a screenshot to promote the Liara DLC, and to use said screenshot to invoke the feelings of nostalgia amongst the ME1 fanbase that I have suggested. As I have outlined, it is freaking obvious that the image is altered and is not a gameplay capture, nor is it from a cutscene.

It's not hard, nor that difficult to understand.

That's one theory.  I've listed them all before, except I didn't include the Les screenshot manip theory!  :P

I'l list them again (for fun!):
  • Liara will be a squad mate for the mission.  The game engine has been tweaked to allow a 4 person squad plus Shepard, so Liara takes up the extra spot, and is like any other squad mate (the player can issue commands to her and can control her power usage).
  • Liara will be a squad mate for the mission, but in the typical 3 person squad.  The Shepard + Liara + Tali + Garrus screen is a hack used to grab the screen shot that would evoke the most ME1 nostalgia out of us.  The player really will only be allowed to select one other person besides Liara, similar to the loyalty missions.
  • Liara will not be a squad mate for the mission, but will be present during all the combat.  This would be similar to Garrus' recruitment mission, where he is there aiding the squad in combat, but the player cannot issue orders to him or use his powers.
  • Liara will not be a squad mate for the mission, and will not follow Shepard's squad, but will be off doing her own thing, possibly even leading her own squad (as Master Wolf mentioned earlier).   This is similar to the second fire team on the suicide mission, except we may see more of Liara fighting in cutscenes than what we see of the other teams during the suicide mission.

I'm leaning towards '4' right now.  I'm not sure about '3'....this worked with Garrus, given that he's first and foremost a sniper, and he aided Shepard and Co. by sniping.  Liara is first and foremost a biotics user.  I doubt they will have her using bitoics powers that the player cannot control.  She could just use her pistol to help out, but that would be kind of dumb, given how powerful of a biotic she is.

'2' is another strong possibility, the only problem is that damn screenshot with Shepard/Liara/Tali/Garrus.

'1' could happen, but I have no clue how difficult it would be to implement this, and would it be worthy to do so for a DLC?  I do know they are working on changes for ME3 ('Project Wombat') and this could be a 4 person squad....perhaps they will roll it out in ME2 DLC first?  I don't know.

Yeah, but why go through all that trouble just for one screen shot?  That's what I don't understand.  I feel, just having Liara plus Garrus or Liara plus Tali could have done the trick.

I just thought of something.

What if we don't actuelly capture/find the SB in this DLC. But instead, build for a Loghain/Allistar choice in ME3??

Excatly.

No offence LES. But I find your "The screenshot is fake!" thing somewhat silly.

Because, rather than presenting clear favourtism regarding the two characters, it makes more sense to include both of them alongside Shepard and Liara. It's also more emotionally evocative to feature them both in the image.

Plus, it's not exactly hard to take the character models, pose them, and insert them into a prerendered environment. Most amateurs are able to do that with programs like Poser and Gary's Mod.

It's still a possibility...I think the idea of Liara being a temp squaddie with one other person could happen...I'm not sure why they would show that screen then, especially since it could be seen as 'false advertising'.
