You know, after reading the third book, and looking at the ads for Liara's DLC, I realized tie-in stuff really sucks for being tie-in stuff. Like say you read the Mass Effect comics or books, but you didn't play the games. Many of the stories end with "Find out the rest, in ME1, 2, and 3". Example, if you don't play the video games, you'll never learn what happened to Feron, who's Commander Shepard, etc. And with the books, you'll never learn about the Reapers, who's Commander Shepard, how things are going to end with Cerberus, etc. They can't stand on their own.

That's 'cuz they want you to buy the games.

Yeah, but what about 10 years later? If I was a writer for one of those projects, I'd want people to still be buying and reading my books.

I think they don't explain things beter in the books becaause most of the people that will read the books have played the game so it would not be interesting to ear the same explanations that they have already eard in the game it would be redundant. And for example Redemption it's just to tell Liara quest to find Shepard it ruin the story if they star explain every litle thing.

That's the sad thing about it, TMA. This material is not designed to be standalone in anyway. It exists to:

a) Encourage fans of the main video game series to purchase this material as it is exposition not contained within the game, and is appealing to those that are a fan of the expanded universe.

B) Attempt to draw in new fans by requiring that they play the games to find out the full story, or the conclusion of the story presented in this material.

Primarily, the Mass Effect media released on other mediums exists to make money. Of course it also exists to expand the universe and it's characters. However, it is mostly a money spinner.

Well, it's not that. Cerberus is still explained, and the worlds are explained, it's just they can't stand on their own. Like the 3 books can't be a trilogy story, since the story barely connects as an overall story, and is meant to continue somewhere else. The Halo novels suffered this as well.

Perhaps it's because the decisions that Shepard make can change things too much but it would be nice if the story of the books were conected. I think that the best way for them to be a trilogy were for them to creat another hero that would carry the books stories and then in ME3 he would apear and join Shepard.

Messina, you are the WORST troll. What a pathetic attempt . . .LOL . . . .
So, I hope the Liara dlc comes out on the 7th of September! Or even earlier would be totally awesome . . . SO awesome.

We haven't had any news while I was gone, and I'll probably be gone for a couple more weeks, so, hopefully, when I come back next, we'll have a trailer or something!

I'm not a troll, I just put this video for laughs.

Alright, so I just finished reading Retribution about five minutes ago, and one thing I noticed is that the Reapers seem to be able to influence people simply by talking to them. While personally, I consider this to be a shaky plot device, it lends credence to the already complex theory that the Shadow Broker is under direct influence of the Reapers. He's been talking directly with Harbinger, as was referenced by Redemption.

Still can't wait for Liara DLC details!

If the Shadow Broker has been talking to and being controlled by the Reapers, then who knows what other information it's been giving to the Reapers. In other words, if the SB is possessed by the Reapers, it must die. And I'm going to let Liara do that for me.

Interesting. Perhaps the announcement of the Liara DLC, which also happens to coincide with the release of Retribution, was a case of strategic timing? Perhaps the plot device introduced in the book, that the Reapers are able to influence and control their thralls by merely conversing with them, is something that will be presented and expanded on in the Liara DLC, with the Shadow Broker? I can't wait, and it will be quite interesting to see Shepard and Liara confront an indoctrinated Shadow Broker, it's original goals and motives warped beyond all recognition.

Hopefully, we shall receive more details a little later on today!

The Higgs Boson! That must be the source of all indoctrination!

Also the DA character creator still works for uploading profile photos doesn't it? Been waiting forever for one to show up in my photo choices. (Okay, only 2 days but that's long enough to be forever!)

Hah!

Yeah, the DA character creator is still an effective means to upload a custom avatar, Bob. The time it takes varies, though. I'm lucky, it's only ever taken a few minutes for me. For others, it can take several weeks! Good luck my friend, I trust it will be a beautiful picture of Liara. :D

So anyway, alot of people are anticipating that more info surrounding Liara's DLC will be released today. Anybody else feeling the excitement at all? I certainly am, and I am also eager to learn of the estimated duration and size of the DLC, in addition to how substantial our interactions and general content with Liara is! Can't wait!

IIRC, the DLC was actually announced around 5PM my time, which is in just over 4 hours time. Excited!

In other news, the new weapon pack has just been posted on xbox live. It's called the firepower pack and features the weapons seen in the Liara DLC screenies.

More info would be awesome Les, there's so much we need to know!

It's a slightly cropped mini version of that new Liara "Without you, things will never be the same again" piece I did.

I hope that there's new info today but I'm not really expecting that there will be any.  At this point I'm just looking for a confirmation of if it's post SM or not (since the long rumored DLC is now confirmed and we know for sure it's coming).  More would be nice but that's all I need to hear for now.  Although after that it wouldn't be long before I wanted to hear more. :P

Anyways, I'm off to sleepers. Ciao! :kissing:

Yup, the new weapons pack has just been discussed in the Liara group. I think that pistol will make an excellent addition to my main, Adept Shepard's arsenal of weapons, despite the fact that she never fires her pistol. XD

Gah, I just want more Liara news now!

Nope. Just a new wallpaper of Shepard in a tempered leather thong yelling "This. Is. LIARAAAAAAA!"

But beyond that, nothing.

Yes. However, in order to find out, you'll need to solve a series of riddles and puzzles, each more fiendish and devious than the last.

I did some checking, and I realized that PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) is coming up in about a month. Sure, it's not as big as E3, but Bioware might be holding back a trailer of the Liara DLC until then. We'll probably still get details soon regardless, but maybe they're holding The Good Stuff back until the event?
