I don't know if you've read any of the novels or not, but in the beginning of Ascension there is a prologue with TIM thinking to himself.  Its only a few pages, but after reading that there was absolutely no question whatsoever that TIM is a complete and utter megalomaniac.  And that isn't hyperbole, he is totally off his rocker.
One cool thing I noticed with Ashley on Horizon too the last time, is that she has a cool red stripe down the right arm of her armor now like Shepard has with being special forces.  I definitely do think that after Shepard dies that Ashley/Kaiden then become Anderson's protege and go to person like Shepard was.

I hadn't read the novels, I was worried that they wouldn't be as interesting without Shepard. Are they any good?

And does she? I haven't played through with Ash survivng yet so I haven't seen her >.<

I've just read Ascension so far and that was to see how Cerberus and TIM were presented in the novels and to get an idea of how Shepard's activities are handled.  Ascension starts within weeks of Shepard stopping Sovereign at the Citadel.  But seriously, that prologue leaves no doubts whatsoever that TIM is insane.  Ascension was pretty good though if you like finding out some more about the Mass Effect universe.  You find out more about TIM, Cerberus, Omega, and the Migrant Fleet for the most part.  The Collectors are mentioned, and you find out that they've been active for the last 500 years.  There is also an evil quarian, so that was interesting to see.

I don't have any playthroughs with Kaiden alive so I don't know if he has the stripe too, I get all emotional and can't leave Ashley to die after she's talked about her family so much.  It isn't easy to let Kaiden die, but all my Shepards are Femshep and snuggle with Liara, so really it is probably the best thing.  Kaiden is never going to have Shepard and the rest of his life is going to be hollow and unfulfilled.  Each time he meets someone he's going to compare them to Shepard and they're going to fall short.  Really the whole atomized in nuclear fire seems like doing him a favor when you look at it that way.

This is the scene where the guards ask you to hand over your weapons isn't it?  I always thought it was cool that Shepard and your other squadmate draw their weapons while Liara just powers up the biotic kickassery.

Hah, no way! Man, I'm gonna have to pop ME1 back in at some point and play it again. I miss these little moments.

Random note, I was looking at these pictures of Liara when a song called Star-Crossed Lovers by De/Vision popped onto Pandora. I only really like the first half of the song but it was so sad to listen to while I was looking at these. T_T

I would think her being on the Normandy for good after the Expansion would be a good possibility as well.
She has no reason at all to stay on Illium after the SB situation is resolved.

For the people who didn't romance her (how could you ), she could be on the ship because of her expertise.
For those who did romance her (all of us, lol) she would be there because Shepard loves her and She loves Shepard (and well love her as well) .
She has even said that she wants to come with Shepard but can't because of her situation.
So, logically, she would stay on the Normandy after as a non-playable squadmate until ME3, where she would be a squadmate.

I fully agree, at least story-line wise, she doesn't have a single reason to not go with Shepard's crew afterwards -- even the space issue I mentioned once is a non-factor, even for non-Liaramancers.  (I was probably being silly not really thinking that only half the crew seems to bunk where they're found, unless Mordin and Jacob sleep on the floor anyway.)

The question remains, though, if Mac and crew (and possibly Drew) see it like we do.  They may have some kind of 'conflict' situation in mind for ME3 between original LIs and ME2 LIs, though, truth be told, I don't see it being a very big draw to the story, so much so that I'd probably expect anything like that to get dropped as soon as they realize they're pushing three discs without it anyway .  (Not that I wouldn't play a three-disc third installment -- give me 1's story-awesome and 2's combat-awesome and we're good to go in my book.  But some players' mileage might vary.  Though I have no clue why...)

Still, Liara, as well as Ash/Kaidan, being on the Normandy, is something I can wait til ME3 to have, if us LiLi fans and ... whatever the nickname for Ash/Kaidan romancers is ... get something with substance to tide us over.

And a Liara calendar <3<3.
