You know, a lot of the talk in this thread has been about Liara DLC or even a Liara expansion based on the files that were mined from the PC version of the game. And the way the talk has gone a lot of us seem to be assuming its only a matter of time before we get news announcing the release. The debate seems to hinge on when we'll hear something, not if we'll hear something or if the content will even be released.
I'm curious, how many of you are really that confident that we'll get this content? And if you think we'll get it, how many of you are really, really confident it will actually continue the Liara/Shep story/romance in a satisfying way?
For me, I'm hopeful but realistic. I'm not going to get my hopes up to high. My assumption at this point is that its possible we'll get something, but I would put the probability at around 25-30 percent. Honestly that's not very high. And if we get something, there's a good chance it'll be disappointing. Maybe a couple missions that are given to us by Liara but not missions she participates in.
How confident are the rest of you? Because you all seem really confident.
Very confident. We know from the cut audio that Liara's role in the game was originally alot larger, and she would have accompanied you on a mission to kill the Shadow Broker. This was obviously before the comics were conceived, and suggest to me that Liara was always supposed to accompany Shepard on a mission, which will still be followed through once the last issue of Redemption is released and we get Liara's full role in ME2. Add to that, when Redemption was announced BioWare said that the comics "would tie into downloadable content being produced for Mass Effect 2", a pretty strong indicator if you ask me. Then we've obviously got the Liara DLC placeholder files, which is more evidence.
As for whether interaction with Liara will be deep and emotional, it has to be IMO. Liara's whole quest to find Shepard and the predicament she finds herself in now is all motivated by her own emotions, and her devotion to Shepard. The fact that her whole ordeal has been so deep and emotional means that realistically they can't not have any intimate and deep conversation with Liara, as she struggles to deal with her guilt and sorrow for everything that's happened. And if they're going to do that, why would they not include dialogue or a scene for those of us who romanced her?
I'm very optimistic we'll be seeing more of the Beautiful Blue Goddess very soon!

If you want my most realistic opinion, I'd have to say we will see some form of a DLC. We've got the PC files and a bunch of audio that was left behind. I think the DLC will be this left over content. They cut out so much that it gives me the impression that it was cut for initial release only to return later in some DLC.
Will it continue the romance side in a satisfying way? I've no idea. Not much I can say on this other than the transition from ME1 to ME2 saw 2 different writers. I don't know if Mac Walters will explore the romance side of the game in the same way that Drew did.
Will she join up with Shepard for the mission? Probably not. After Kasumi there's no spot left on the character roster for her to fit. If they saved room on the screen for DLC related characters (Zaeed and Kasumi) already, then they would have left room for Liara, if she was going to actually be a part of this. That's only logical.
I still have very high hopes for ME3 however. DLC is just that, downloadable content. It's not an expansion. If ME2 ever sees and expansion, I'd expect to see some significant changes. I think we'll see some real action in ME3, however, and I think Liara will rejoin with Shepard at that point for sure.

Haha. Redemption #3 had a preview a month before it was released roughly. We may see a redemption #4 preview soon. Then we can talk about the front cover!

There's no reason we can't start squealing like little girls right now, just for the sake of doing it. In fact...

Hmm, I have to go. People around the office are looking at me kind of funny.

Oh, there will be more games in the universe. But no more about Shepard, and I wouldn't count on them being RPGs either.
They'll probably kill Liara off at the end of ME3 in order to be 'fair' to the fans of the other characters. 'Everyone else can die so why can't Liara!!??!!'
and IF [unlikely] Liara will die in ME3 i will enter ME3 console and exec Shep suicide order....

I'm totally considering doing what Cartman did in the Nintendo Wii episode of South Park: Freeze myself until we hear any more Liara news!

I think people are putting too much thought into the character select screen and the lack of room for Liara. Think about it, Liara will definitely be a part of the shore party in her mission, kind of like you have to take a character with you during their loyalty mission. When the squad select screen comes up, it'll only prompt you to select one additional squadmember, as Liara will obviously take the first position. Liara doesn't need a position on the character select screen, as she will be selected automatically and thus there would be no need for her to appear on it.
I think that's a possibility. I also hope I'm wrong and you're right. That would be awesome. I just haven't seen the ME series at any point do a temporary squadmate. That's the only thing I'm not putting my hopes up on. There's audio and left over files for a Liara centric DLC, we've just got no evidence that she'll be on the team. That's the only missing part of the puzzle. I would like to reiterate though that I really hope I'm wrong

No way in bloody hell is she or my Shep going to die. There will be a happy ending for Shep/Liara in my version of the story.

Lucky for me, I get to put my mind to rest for a while. I'm taking the entire next week off (starting this Friday to next Saturday) to go to Moab, in Utah. Mountain biking, camping, and hiking. I hope when I get back, we'll at the very least have the preview of Redemption #4!

Actually I in case of a DLC should Liara come with you to assault the SBs base or whatever,I think they will either do it in a fashion like Garrus recruitment mission or they make up something like she uses her own ship and brings along the thugs that are working for her and you assault the base from two sides keeping radio contact.

Hopefully BW's idea of a happy ending isn't a Romeo and Juliet style suicide pact.LesEnfantsTerribles wrote...
The only way I could see Liara possibly dying (ugh I hate typing that) is if it's a choice or optional, ie selecting a Virmire survivor in ME1. There's no way any Liara death would be mandatory, as we've been promised a happy ending to the romance in ME3.
@ Noxis: That actually is a good idea, hadn't thought of that. I'd be ok with that, as long as we get to talk to her.

Intriguing. I think that's a huge possibility. You get to help Liara do the mission, talk to her outside the office on Illium and it still fits my character select screen theory. Kudos for thinking of that.

It will be optional but I think it will definitely be an option...for 'fariness' so those that hate her can kill her off.
Though I don't see how one can hate Liara. I understand those that find her uninteresting and are apathetic to her character, but hate??
