I misread Lizard's question and believed him to be asking us to merely describe how we roleplay our Shepards and their backstories from a romance perspective...oops!

Meh, I'll write it later.

As for you other. Thank you for your time. I would love to share my mine too, but it's too late and I woulnd't know where to begin. The least I can say that of the 4 i got, only two of them like Liara (and one doesn't romance her due to believing she deserves someone better).

Maybe tomorrow I will write it.

I never 'play as me' btw...I prefer creating new characters/personalities/backstories and playing as them. That's just me though. I wonder if the majority of ME players play as themselves or roleplay?

I just wanted to ask how you roleplay your Shepard's (those who romance Liara) in general. And their background story.

There's no way I could play as me. Shepard's an action hero no matter how you play her, and I never wanted to be an action hero. Liara and Tali are closer to my wish fulfillment ideal.

Initially played as myself, but now roleplay. I find it far more interesting to transform and develop your own Commander Shepard into her own character, independant of yourself and your own personality. It is alot more fun that way, I believe.

Yeah, I'd rather be the intellectual of the crew.  Though, I think Shepard can be interesting, it's just not me...maybe that's why I think she's an interesting character in her own right?

Though, I think Liara and Tali are interesting too.

My Shepard background is too different from the options that are in the game I don't much the options that the game gives although some of them can be role played to be very interesting.

And all my Shepards have something of me althought I like to add things from my favorite characters to them but all my Shepards romance LiaraPosted Image

Of course I could never be Shepard (I don't think I could make it to special forces!). But  I don't get how you can't just put yourself in a situation and do what you would do.

Anyway. Goodnight everybody!

The only place I really make Shepard a self-insert is when I play a straight FemShep and he comes time to pick the romance. I find it very difficult to romance a man I wouldn't be interested in myself. It's also why I say fidelity is easier with a MaleShep. It's harder to turn down characters I'm personally attracted to. Don't worry. Grace is being RP'd as a lesbian and Kelly isn't her type.

You know, it seems incredible that there was a point only a few months ago that I disliked Liara. All I can say is that we can be taught.

No worries, jtav! I am please that you have become a Liara fan and now appreciate her character.:D If you don't mind me asking, what prompted you to re-evaluate your opinion of Liara, and your perception of her character?

I replayed the romance for research for a now abandoned fanfic. Rolled my eyes at the fainting and "swept up in a storm" line. And then I came to the love scene which, combined with her Ilos dialogue, sold me on her character. She's stromg, she just isn't obvious about it.

Ah, gotcha. Yes, I also dislike the fainting. I get that they were trying to emphasise the fact that Shepard's visions from the Prothean beacon and that she is incredibly strong-willed, but it was unnecessary to repeat several times.

However, you are correct regarding Liara's emotional strength. It is very apparent, but it's very subtle and nuanced. That's a big part of why I find her so appealing.

Well, the Male Shep one is shorter, since it's more "Guy meets Girl." Though his back story is more of a mystery.

His background says he was an orphan, who had a rough childhood in the slums of Earth. That he ran with the 10th street Reds, who are now considered a racist gang. As for the details, no one really knows. Was he a hitman? Was he a bouncer? Was he a thief? Was he a racist? Was he a murderer? Again, no one really knows, except for Shepard.

Maybe he was none of these things. Maybe he just grew up with a bunch of stupid kids he didn't belong with. But would anyone really believe him? Like all people, everyone only cares about the worst they can find. Whatever good you do doesn't matter. It'll just becomes forgotten compared to the bad. Even if none of it was true.

Either way, he enlisted at the age of eighteen, to avoid falling into the trap of gangs and poverty, and became a War Hero. And for a person who lacks a proper education, he sure knows how to talk business, and make a career out of doing the impossible.

And then he meets Liara. Someone that's different. An asari who doesn't fit the description. Most her age would be stripping, screwing, or working in merc bands. Instead, she keeps herself alone, and wishes to learn. Her father abandon her, and being different has made her an outsider among her people.

He likes her because he enjoys being in her presence. He likes being around her, not because she's someone to talk to, but someone they can share their loneliness with. Someone he can share a comfortable silence, just by enjoying her company. And someone to learning with, and learn from.

That's all I can write right now. Needs editing, and have more to say, but it's really hot right now, and I'm lazy.

Hey folks.

In answer to Lizardviking’s earlier question, I have attempted to compile an answer regarding my ‘main’ character, Staff Commander Christopher Shepard.

Brought up by his parents within a loving and God fearing, yet fairly strict, family, Christopher eventually followed in his parent’s military footsteps and enlisted within the Alliance Marines at 18 years of age. Over time, he was eventually recommended for further training as a part of the Alliance Shock Troops section; he was eventually transferred to the 97th Shock Troop Division within six years since he enlisted.

One of his first assignments, garrison duty on the colony of Elysium, almost became his last when the Skyllian Blitz hit. However, both Shepard and several of his squad members were able to hold a vital chokepoint within the colony long enough for civilians to be evacuated and for re-enforcements to be brought up. For this action, Shepard and his squad were awarded the Star of Terra.

The rest, as they say, was history. The battle for Eden Prime, the hunt for Saren, and the cataclysmic Battle of the Citadel (where the Alliance was able to save the Citadel Council from annihilation) … all of these events forged Shepard’s abilities as a Spectre, a leader and a diplomat and cemented his reputation as a paragon of what the Alliance (and humanity as a whole) could eventually become.

As for his infatuation with Liara, well that’s partially tied to his past. Given the need for a stringent espirit de corps within the military, Shepard was unable to form anything more then a platonic relationship with female members of his unit. Yet, for a number of years, he was fairly close to one of his squad mates, a Private Sarah Richards. Tragically, any chance for this relationship to develop further was abruptly cut off – Private Richards died at Elysium. Wracked with guilt, Shepard became a recluse, vowing to never allow himself to become involved with another woman.

Therefore, his budding relationship with Liara eventually allowed Shepard to emerge from the shell he had constructed around himself since Elyssium. While mindful of the regulations concerning Alliance personnel, for some reason, he felt protective towards Liara (despite her insistence to the contrary). Within her, he could see a person whose intelligence, personality and inner will made her a valuable colleague … and friend. He was actually surprised when Liara questioned him about forming a possible relationship between the two, but after deliberation, he allowed his emotional barriers to fall and began to reciprocate Liara’s feelings.

Here's the vid I said I was going to upload.

Liara explains the Mu Relay....the 'Noveria last' playthrough.

This is right after Virmire, during the debriefing, just after Liara has seen the full beacon vision.

Ignore Liara almost pulling an Excorsist headspin after Garrus speaks. Also notice how Liara (Hillis) pronounces 'placed'...so cute!

Just a quick question to all who post here.

If you have any Shepard where you roleplay (no "What would I do?") and romance Liara. How do you roleplay and whats your background story for your Shepard?

Well, normally I avoid talking about my Shepards, but since we're swapping stories...

The first time I romanced Liara, Shepard was raised from birth to be a soldier. Being the child of a rising star in the Alliance brass, he was always held to a high standard. His father was a field medic, but he was often on tour, even more than his mother. That being said, the family was close. Unfortunately, Shepard's father was killed during the Blitz. After that, both surviving Shepards became focused on their work, and consequently, more distant.

Then Akuze happened. When dawn broke over the ruined colony, only Shepard and twelve other half-dead marines were left. And by the time evac ships arrived, it was just Shepard. Shepard wasn't the same after that. After leaving the hospital, he became even more militant, focused entirely on his service to the Alliance. His mind repressed any emotions regarding Akuze and the loss of his unit, his friends, his family, leaving him feeling mentally numb, as if he had died on Akuze along with his unit, and was just a machine soldier living out borrowed time.

Then came the pursuit of Saren. The beacon on Eden Prime was the catalyst that destabilized his mind, his sanity slowly coming apart. But after the mission to Therum, everything changed. Liara changed everything. She didn't see the Commander, not the soldier, not even the survivor. She saw the person, coming undone. She kept the pieces of his mind together. Shepard came to value their friendship more than anything, eventually leading himself to admit he loved her. She brought life. She made life more than borrowed time.

What about you, Vik?
