I don't think it's ignorance. She's initially presented as a very stock damsel in distress who accidentally got herself trapped. One easily missed line doesn't negate that. Her strength and steel is revealed later.
I completely disagree about her being presented as a damsel in distress. Ive seen it mentioned about how Ashley, Tali and Liara all need Shepards help when you first encounter them, but I think thats just a knee jerk reaction. I wouldnt support future instances of Liara desperately needing Shepards help (like this DLC for example) because of the first time, but I wouldnt claim "damsel in distress" every single time it happens.
And one line does negate that even if it were true. You can hear in her voice shes getting frustrated with being unfairly accused of a wrong doing she knows nothing about. With many peoples interpretation of Liara, it leaves no room for things like that.

If that's the case, she's not doing a very good job being representative. Typical asari youth seem to prefer stripping in nightclubs or running with merc gangs, not study extinction of ancient races. She's more than just a typical young asari imo.

Well, I'd want her to be able to save you. And I don't mean with what she did in Redemption. I mean something where she saves you the same way you saved her in ME1. You're trapped, or hanging from the edge, and she comes to save the day.
As for saving her: the next time you do it, I don't want it to be a life or death situation. More like saving her from the trapped she might have gotten caught in for being an information broker. For putting herself in debt with others she can't even trust, and doing things she'll forever regret.

Why would you say that? She's clearly one of the more prominent characters in the series.

Eh, Tali and Liara are good friends. She also happens to have developed a close relationship with Miranda. It should be implemented!

I got that impression from their elevator dialogue! Okay, it was merely an insincere assumption used to assist in cracking my joke, so meh!
Liara and Tali are at least acquainted with each other.
